The arboretum is closed today while the firefighting goes on around it. So far it is safe. It's out in the middle of nowhere with very dry desert all around.

We have had no lightening, so it is obviously a man-caused fire. The auto makers put ashtrays in cars for a reason.

ETA: 500 acres so far

So, I finally got the call this morning asking me to conduct the installation of officers for Middletown AAUW tomorrow evening.  After wrestling with my temperamental printer, I've printed the script and figured out how many of each color flower we'll need.  Off to email the person responsible for obtaining those...

Oh, I don't care if people agree/disagree with my opinion. (I did include "At Long Last Love" on my Bogdanovich list today.) I just want to know if you enjoyed the show. And what you thought worked or didn't. "Follies" is a hard show for anyone to get right. I watched the original cast footage on YouTube, and Gene Nelson never could remember the lyrics to his song. Apparently, neither could Yvonne de Carlo.

Yesterday I went biking with my niece (who is just a few weeks without her training wheels). IT was interesting.

Last year someone down the street was throwing out their kids bike. So i took it. So now my niece can ride with me.

She can now start on her own. And more or less stop. Only issue is her steering. She can't really stay straight in a very small area.

So no bike path yet. She could do it as long as there were no other bikes on the path. :)
(not sure how she would get out of the way).

So we just went around the block and close by. At first i was going to just jog beside her. But I was feeling a bit under the weather and it was too hard to run beside her. The bike thing worked out well. I could stay in the middle of the street to make sure no cars got near her. And surprisingly even though we were out for an hour it didn't take much energy. Even though i was always pedalling. I wasn't going fast.

I've never seen the show and would love to, even if it's a local production. I haven't seen any clips on YouTube yet (a surprise). And no reviews.

Also burning is a beautiful area in the extreme southeast portion of Arizona. You have also seen photos from there.

DR JohnG - Follies just started previews this past weekend at The Kennedy Center. Opening Night is May 21. I'm sure that by then some clips - official and otherwise - will start to pop up on the interwebs.

I need to do that, too. May walk to the library.

Well, it was lovely outside and the walk felt good, but I sure wish we lived in a neighborhood with somewhere to walk TO.  Walking for walking's sake is fine, but I'd probably do more of it if I could accomplish errands at the same time - bank, library, post office, etc.

In a way, I wish that they would stop reviving FOLLIES so often.  IM(very)HO, I think it's too much a show of it's time--the authors' intent was to piss off their early 70s upper middle class audiences by shattering the post-war American Dream myths.  Nowadays, the show is more about how it's casted and staged than what it's about.

One note:  I hope Regine is having a great time doing this show, because her number will always be eclipsed by Linda Lavin's Broadway Baby, or at least that's how it felt even on Sunday night..

I was wondering if they were going to use the original triple-ending for that sequence.

One of the best productions of Follies I've ever seen was a community theatre production put on by The Arlington (VA) Players - which is one of Eric Schaeffer's early stomping grounds. Since it was cast with local actors and not "Stars", the focus was put on the book and the score.
