When I just read that Darth Vadar had died,  I thought they meant James Earl Jones.  Instead it was Bob Anderson.

Is ESPN 1 and 2 now cinsidered part of a basic cable package?  I just wondered since most of the college bowl games are now on ESPN.

The violence level is comparable to the Swedish version. There are some very disturbing images of the victims of the serial killer and of the cat (too many of the cat). It's impossible to make the rape of Lisbeth anything but disturbing and her revenge is less graphic than the Swedish version without losing any of its impact.

My wife and I were going to see this today, but if an animal gets killed (the cat?), perhaps we'll pass.

Should we pass?
It's a fake cat. But it's disturbing nonetheless.

I don't remember the cat from the books or Swedish movie. So i guess it wasn't that memorable to me.

So we went and saw this today.

I hid my eyes in the" cat scene".

It's a very good film, but (script-wise) I think the Swedish version was better.

After listening again to the national media say how little we know in Iowa etc.....this really cracked me up.  It's the Iowa Film Makers response to the National Media.   Here's the original version http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qLZZ6JD0g9Y&feature=context&context=C34d2e3bADOEgsToPDskLIzcttxnekieViwwKt10_e

and here's the clean version, although they missed on bleep...

The cat dying was in the book, I don't remember if it was in the Swedish version.

What I hated about the US verision was the opening credits.  I thought it was loud awful and had nothing to do with the movie.  I actually thought they had started the movie then switched and put the wrong movie in and then switched back.

Count me among those who enjoy SHERLOCK. I've always enjoyed the old Sherlock Holmes, and would not have expected to like something so contemporary, but I did! As much as anything, I think it was VERY cleverly done. Very light, very fun.

Bruce, the sirens were from the arson fires. There was one in North Hollywood. Yesterday the fire smell was so strong I had to check to make sure it wasn't here. And I'm in West LA! I haven't heard of all the locations, but many were in Hollywood or West Hollywood. The last I heard (a couple hours ago), the count was up to 43.

Poor Rex is back at the vet, under sedation, to see if he can figure out why Rex is not doing well.

Fun Outside the Box episode, Bruce.

BTW, I read an interesting article in the Wall St Journal, entitled Outside the Icebox, about an industrial designer. I enjoyed the title.

Very funny episode of OUT OF THE BOX.  Who is that girl in the ensemble with the long dark hair and the eyes?

GIRL WITH THE DRAGON TATTOO SPOILERS************

For DR Cillaliz or any DR who has seen THE GIRL WITH THE DRAGON TATTOO

How violent is this version?  I've seen the Swedish version and read the books. But I am curious since it is for 13+ in US how violent this version is especially compared to the Swedish version (which i liked but found much violence).

I think there's a more sex and nudity in this version, maybe I'm wrong, but it seemed like it. There are graphic photos of the victims and as has been mentioned the cat isn't just dead it's well...mangled.  It's still a violent film.  There are times when they cut to a door closing or cut and come back so you don't see the actual event, but know exactly what happened. I liked both versions of the film.  I was prepared to not like the US Version, but was really happy I did

The images of the victims wasn't that disturbing to me. Is the rape less graphic? I found the rape and revenge much too graphic. I am guessing that these are less graphic in the US version. Is it actually suitable for a teenageer because to me the Swedish version was 18+.

I should keep reading your posts before answering, lol.  The rape starts out pretty graphic, then fades to the door closing.  The revenge also starts pretty graphically, but you don't see it all.  It still made me cringe.

I've done sixteen pages so far - very surprising.  I may do a few more later, but I certainly am thrilled to have done sixteen.  I'll take a break now.

Deciding whether to devote my tv viewing this week to the Swedish GIRL/TATTOO movies or to the RSC LIFE AND ADVENTURES OF NICHOLAS NICKLEBY.
