I don't think I'd call Ahrens and Flaherty mediocre.
I agree, to an extent. I'm not that thrilled with "Dessa Rose," "Anastasia" or all of "The Glorious Ones," but I do love "Once on This Island" and "Ragtime."

The sounds of a "Rocky" musical could be good. "Golden Boy" was.

Ahrens & Flaherty.....there are some composers who become famous and who win Tony Awards - and whose music and lyrics still mean nothing to me.....nor does the idea of a movie of one of their "shows" or a Carnegie Hall presentation of their work excite me.

Why does mediocrity keep being rewarded?  Or is it because there is nothing grand to compare things to now?

Wow, just wow.

The talented composers of our time ARE talented.  Hence the reason they don't get backing to do a new show.  No one wants an unknown commodity anymore.

I saw Lucky Stiff in a tiny local theater. They had great talent, and I absolutely loved it. It is one of the few shows where I bought tickets to see it again. And I have the CD somewhere.

"Nice Work If You Can Get It" gets nine nominations for Outer Critics Circle Awards, but not one for best new musical. ("Bonnie and Clyde" and "Spider-Man" both got nods for best musical.) Strange list of nominations. If this is any indication, the awards race this season is between "Once" and "Newsies."

My DH wants me to go look at cars to replace the one I am driving. I think it would be more fun to, say, have my toenails pulled out.

And now the proof of the previous post about not-so-talented composers!!!

Thanks DR Laura & I too dislike looking at cars.  Keith did online research before I got my last car.  He sent me to the Toyota dealership to test drive two cars.  I liked them both :o  When I returned home he went online and found the best price for the car I picked.  It sure made car shopping easy/easier.

And I adore sister Alice Lee, too!  She could provide a lively and fascinating lunch conversation herself.

She reminds me of my dear departed Aunt Francis who was a school teacher in Virginia.  She had a similar voice, but it never got to the point that it sounded as if it were being squeezed out of a worn-out bagpipe!  LOL!

And I'll add, they don't want to trust their own ears because they really don't know the difference between great music and crap.

I appreciate all the concern.  We were hoping for the lesser of two evils, lymphoma which has an excellent success rate with cancer treatment.  Instead they "think" he has malignant histiocytosis.  We need more info, Keith is doing research right now & I'm taking to my Bernese Mountain Dog friends on Facebook, to make a decision what to do.

Six weeks ago Sherlock's blood work was normal.  I fear this is moving quickly.  The prednisone does seem to be helping some.
