I'm very excited! My friend Ben Davis' movie is finally being released in the USA!

The English version in the film is by Stephen Fry. I already own the PAL edition, and the film is quite imaginative.

I have added it to my list of movies to see.

Mandolin in the classroom today - learned a few chords - did a demo with the guitar, mandolin, and ukelele. Rockstar Status!!!
That sounds like fun!

Love this piece. And I love Bergman's film of it. Looking forward to seeing another take on it.

There will still be maybe a dozen things I "have to" keep, but that's acceptable when you consider the original number was well over 200 tapes.  It's taken me a year and a half to get them down to this number.  The core of that material, the stuff I do love and go back to, has been replaced with proper DVDs, etc., and of course a little of it wasn't worth replacing at all.  At least I can say without hesitation that I'm much better now in knowing what to acquire.  I recently went through my hundreds of DVDs and BLUs and found the collection to be so tight that only two things came out.  When I know I'm that careful, I can live with the shelves and shelves and shelves of it.  In fact, I WANT to live with all those shelves of it.  They just have to be the RIGHT things, then all is justifiable.

DR ChasSmith, last year I started on a project to convert my "must-save" VHS tapes to DVD.  I actually completed a number of them, but as I began work on the 1983 Tony Awards I began to get discouraged because the video drops and distortions would cause the signal from my video tape player to my PC to cut-off the recording.  From what I've read I need to invest in a high-end VHS player and costlier video software for the PC.  Not sure I want to go that route.

DR DanTheMan, I gave up on the PC way of converting VHS to DVD...I find that my Panasonic DVD/VHS recorder transfers tapes very easily.

Hmmm... I remember you mentioning it before, DR MB.  Can you post the model number?  It's prolly not available anymore, but I could look to see if there's something current like it.  TIA!

Every time I initially start watching a movie starring Warren William, I think he is one of the worst actors ever.  But by the time the movie is finished, he's won me over.  How did he swing that trick time after time?

Good morning, all.

Woke at 5:30 a.m. following a dream about an approaching tornado, which took place somewhere in the Midwest.  What I was doing there, I have no idea.  But I found myself wide awake, with no excessive tiredness or Oys or anything else, laid there for a bit and got joined for a while by a cat or two, then finally decided at 6:20 that there was nothing to do but get up.

So here I am, drinking a Dunkin' Donuts K-cup of coffee, which is pricey but not bad at all.  No sir, not bad at all.

Approaching tornadoes are reoccurring dreams of mine.

I got to work early and finessed quite a bit, then had a short couple of visits from a couple of people, then had to deal with a telephonic problem that's been going on since yesterday, namely if I pick up the phone after the second ring a high pitched squeal goes off, like a fax tone but worse.  I called AT&T and they said they'd come as soon as possible.

Then the Telephone Man arrived and after about twenty minutes he's ascertained that it wasn't my phone and it wasn't their service.  So, he tried the only thing left and unplugged the phone line from the alarm system, and voila everything was fine.  But we can't unplug that because then the alarm goes off.

So, I went to my lunch appointment, which was fun.  Then I came home and began a series of truly surrealistic and frustrating telephonic calls with ADT the security system people.  Their first appointment to deal with this was two weeks from now.  I told them in that case that I wanted to shut the system down until they came, so the phone will work properly.  But because it's not really my account (my name is on it, but I don't pay the bills and I'm not the real contact person) they wouldn't do anything until I gave them a password I don't have and names of people on the account, some of which I do have, but not the correct phone numbers.

I then got hold of the house owner's business manager, who is who I deal with and he gave me the super secret password.  That didn't work either.  So, he finally called them and it turns out that all the information on the account is ancient and no one knows anything and there IS no super secret password that anyone can remember.  The only way they'll send out a new password is by regular mail.  So, they told the business manager that I can shut it down by opening the alarm system box.  They were going to talk me through that, but I went in the closet to do so - there's a key in the lock, but the key won't turn and the lock won't open and so I can't get in there to shut it down.

So, the business manager is changing alarm companies and will have someone come out and deal with this shortly.  He's also going to come by the house and finally see the work that needs to be done, and that will get done soon.  So, I have to tell everyone to call my cell phone until this is fixed.  If I pick up the phone before the first ring is done then it's all right, so that's my option.

All that took close to two hours, after which I wrote another couple of pages, but I just wasn't in the mood at that point.

The good news was that Muse Margaret called and really liked the pages - other than one typo and me clarifying one thing for her (having to do with the way I described a hairdo), she didn't have one thing she wanted me to fix.  She loves the story so far, loves the way it opens, and really loves the dialogue.  So, that made me VERY happy.

I then watched the final two episodes of The Killing III - a bit of a let-down ultimately, with a very strange ending.  Apparently there will be no more of this series.

Now I'm trying to have some energy to write at least six more pages, more if possible.  I don't really need to watch anything else tonight, so I'll just plug along and see how far I get.

Good start to the new season of Downton, though I thought the pace dragged a little in the second half. Maybe it's just because I'm tired and the memory needed to run the program left me without much ability to use the Internet otherwise.

It was also the only place where I had, and needed, NO air-conditioning, the exception being usually one week around August when some humidity would build up, even there at the beach.

My mom's college roommate and her family lived in Redondo Beach, so both of our summer vacations in Southern California were spent in that city (when we weren't playing tourist).

Any suggestions on good music to exercise to? I've listened to Eileen, the London Promises, Promises and the new Pipe Dream, all of which worked. Now. Here. This. didn't. Neither did The Road to Qatar.

Cyndi Lauper's "Kinky Boots" was really good, but I generally dislike that kind of technopop stuff.

Suggestions will be greatly appreciated.
