And then you go right into a delicious Kritzerland show - which I have finally chosen.

Oooh, do tell!   :)

DR ryacko I'm sorry you aren't enjoying the reading.

Thanks, DR Jane. I'll manage. It's just a difficult set of circumstances. My mother passed, then right after that, in the second week of rehearsals, the composer of this reading died unexpectedly, and the script is filled with talk about coffins and death. Just not what I need right now. It's over Monday night. I'll manage and then I'll forget about it for good.

I didn't realize the subject on top of everything else.

From DR Cilla:
Quote
The Goldie fries are dipped in beer batter and they were also fabulous.

Yum.  I intensely dislike beer, beer batter on the other hand I enjoy very much.

Ditto and ditto.

I have had some delicious beer breads too.

Strange story about what happened to Bette Midler's big toe during a pedicure, I think

http://www.dailymail.co.uk/tvshowbiz/article-2619167/Ouch-Bette-Midler-shares-photo-bandaged-toe-blames-injury-cowboy-boots.html

Very little info there and she blamed it on her Texas boots which seems odd.  I would understand a pedicure more.

Good morning, all! I have a bit of work to accomplish this morning for Rob Berman's Trinity Church concerts, and then I will meet Bruce Pomahac for lunch before we see Inventing Mary Martin at the York Theatre.

I've got to put together this morning notes for the first of the three concerts, Jerome Kern's 1917 Princess Theatre show, Oh, Boy!. I'll give him notes on what happened in the world and the New York stage in 1917, a short thing on the Princess Theatre, how Ray Comstock, and Elizabeth Marbury became its producers, and a synopsis of the show and hw the songs fit into the plot.

I just got this new Sheldon Harnick 2-CD set assembled for his 90th birthday, and I love it!

I just ordered that and the Hugh Martin CD, as well. :)

The Hugh Martin is a good one.

I really felt as it was nearing the end of the story that I would have loved to spend even more time with these performers and the way Steve Cole was telling her life story.

So, could you figure out why the critics were largely so negative about the production? What's not to like about the songs? Or the fact that they're sung by the likes of Emily Skinner and Jason Graae?

Made a sour cream apple pie today for a Cinco de Mayo party I'm going to tomorrow. I really shouldn't be partying, but I just need to take some time off.

Wow.  It's been raining all afternoon here...and hard, too.  It would stop or at least slow down for a bit, but now it's coming down pretty hard, again.

I think the major dailies have more of an impact on other reviews than we like to think.

But the more positive notices seem to have come from the critics on theater-oriented internet sites who seem to have a predilection to love the subject going in  [Matthew Murray being an expected exception], which I think adds up to:  if the subject as described appeals to you or intrigues you, they deliver it very well and deliver it with much entertainment and insight.  But if it doesn't sound intriguing to a potential audience member to see a revue about the life of Mary Martin, this may not be the show for that person.

Julie Andrews and "STAR" - I think it's been linked here recently, but it's always worth listening to

This is the extended version of the song that is NOT used in the film.

If it is headed this way I hope it waits until after Keith mows tomorrow, or better yet until after our company that is arriving on Wednesday leaves on Friday.

Crap.  I paid $30 each for these two CDs, but the Harnick CD is on sale for only $12.99...and the regular price is only $16.99! >:(

Well, it's stopped for now.  And so has the washing machine.  Now I can put the clothes in the dryer and take a shower.

BK,   Did you mean me regarding Finishing the book?

If you did and you meant RED GOLD, yes I finished it several weeks ago and posted that I did and that I REALLY ENJOYED IT!

Finishing the book
How you have to finish the book
How you watch the rest of the world
From a window
While you finish the book

...

Studying the book
Entering the world of the book
Reaching through the world of the book
Like a window,
Back to this one from that.

Is anyone watching the new tv series FARGO, besides DR Druxy?

We have the 2nd two episodes recorded and ready to watch, however, we still have the first one to record.

DR Cilla I enjoyed reading about your yesterday.

Thanks Jane.  It was a great day.  So was today.  I've never done anything competitive with Paul.  He was the one who wanted to cut down the alley so the team of young girls wouldn't follow us.  I was totally on board with that.  I loved it

Here's what  I did today  http://siouxcityjournal.com/news/local/sioux-city-s-amazing-architectural-race/article_77aa1109-2f39-5976-beaf-4bf65dd8ba05.html

Cilla, congrats to you and Paul!

Thanks.  It was just a fun thing to do.  The win and cash were a pleasant surprise. Well, we were pretty determined to win, but didn't know about the cash until we got there.  John, the guy in one of the photos was our main competition, he said he'd been studying Sioux City History for a long time and was confident about winning.  He didn't want to get wet though, so he kept taking the skywalk, which made it harder to find all the buildings. I think he got them all in the end, but we were faster

When we were about to get our last photo we did see him trudging up a hill in the rain.  Guess he realized he couldn't get them all without going out in the rain
