I haven't seen all that much of her work either, but I did catch her in THE PIANO TEACHER.  While that film was very hard to watch, her performance was my favorite all year.  I think she won the Best Actress award at Cannes for it - such a marvelous depiction of repressed anger and sexual perversity.  (Not that I'm into that kind of thing.. :))  I should rent LES DESTINEES, as I've heard good things about it.

Our weather is supposed to take a nasty turn here this week, too, Hapgood.  We've been unseasonably warm (nearly 70 degrees today), but are supposed to have overnight lows down around 15 by the end of the week!

LC - The Piano Teacher is at the top of my "must see" list.  Now the trick is to see if I can actually find it in my town!

I'm finally back from work. It turned out to be kind of a rough day...everyone seemed to be in rotten moods, including myself due to my total lack of sleep. I schlepped through the rain and bought myself one of those electric mouse repellers. Aren't they supposed to emit sounds on such a high frequency that humans can't hear it? Well, I CAN hear it, but I'm not going to complain if it will help to rid this apartment of vermin and pests.

MBarnum: Where do you work to have such a cool boss?? My boss today brought me some gourmet cookies. Then he told me to put them on a plate and serve them to the guy he had a meeting with. :\

LC: I want a cat so bad!! I'd love the company, and the whole mouse-catching thing wouldn't be so bad, either. (And I'd rather throw out a dead one...if it were still alive I'd keep thinking it was going to jump off and get on me!) Where in the City do you live? We live so close and yet we've never met!

For those of you who might be interested, I was sorting mail today at work and came across a contract for a concert orchestration of "Agony" from INTO THE WOODS and who's signature was on the contract but our very own Brent Barrett's! He is apparently the acting president of some Broadway Tenors group and is putting together a concert. I should have ripped it off the paper and framed it. Or better yet...the check that he signed to pay for the contract!!

DRs LC & Jed - If you love 8 Women as I do, you should watch a couple of Douglas Sirk movies - particularly All that Heaven Allows and Written on the Wind.  Shots and colors are lovingly homaged in 8 Women!   ;D

MDS - technology is great when it works...when it doesn't there is no word for the disappointment!  :-[

It is now 39 degrees here!  Can it be the end of October already?  :o

Chat in one hour and twenty minutes.  Be there or be round.  Now, has anyone noticed a bit of slacking going on here at haineshisway.com in the afternoon/early evening hours.  Are we on a meal break?  I'd recommend bringing you supper to the computer and eating right here.  Yes, that's what I'd recommend.

Trying to figure out what to watch this evening - perhaps A Kid for Two Farthings.

Indeed, the cold has forced me to break out the next heavier coat. I have only one coat thicker than this. Luckily, the current coat seems to be working quite well against the cold-it is down, or an excellent synthetic version thereof.

I would like to hear what a concert version of Agony would sound like-I am so used to that orchestration (not to mention it being sung as a duet.) Would one call Brent Barrett a tenor? I think of him as more baritone-y.

What!  I'm not complaining, just making an observation....

The one with him in formal attire!

That WAS today, wasn't it??

Were there technical problems?

Ron, I posted that as a test to make sure that I could actually post a picture, but it was on page 5 of yesterday's (Sunday's) notes.  Check there and there he'll be!

Oh life is grand, it's very in'tresting I think I understand (Ah, a Baer/Rogers reference) - I was on my walk earlier and was feeling DUCKY!!!  Things are just moving right along here in the the Bay Area, my production of "Jerry's Girls" is turning out to be a hoot, Rehearsals for "A Christmas Carol" begin in a few hours, my pal Raegena and I are going to see Rufus Wainright in December, the trip to NYC is getting nearer, the relationship thing is happening, and I REALLY want chicken!!!  Thanks for letting me share DR's, you're awesome, too.   :D

as for chicken:

. . .with dumplings (homemade, of course).
. . .oven-fried (there is a great recipe on Bisquick boxes which I have augmented quite effectively).
. . .General Tso's and/or Cashew.
but, nothing compares to:

Sad to say, I had lunch with friends, and we had fast food. I won't have anything else because the lunch was late and naturally loaded with fat grams. Tomorrow, fried chicken for sure. After all this talk about it today, how could I have anything else?

I was just in chat (there were 18 people!!) and I had to leave to go to a class.  Anyway, here's my obligatory post-chat post.  I'll try later to see if anyone's still chatting, but it won't be until much later.

Per Mr. Nruce Kimmel instructions. I am posting my first of two posts fter leaving chat.

When I got home last night in the mail was a DVD i won on Ebay. It was a film adaptation of Noel Coward's Relative Values. Even Julie Andrews couldn't save the film! No wonder it was never released in the USA! It went straight to STARZ/Encore. What a waste. The weakest link were the American actors William Baldwin and Jeanne Triplehorn. A disappointment.

And Julie was costumed so  god awfu; that made her look a lot wider than she really is and the makeup person should have been shot.

The movie was shot on The Isle of Man. The only one that I am aware of.
