Well it is nearly 3 PM here and I just jumped on for a minute. I had apple pie for breakfast, without even knowing it was pie day!! Unfortunately it was a bit soggy at the bottom crust and a bit tough at the top crust, but I have resolved to make a chicken pie for dinner which should be lovely!!

Larry Clinton, yes!

Okay, Elmore is right. Pie ain't easy to come by here in NYC. Leastways, not on the upper west side. Especially as upper as I am. I go out to the only decent diner up here and ate and then they say they have no pies, just cheesecakes and other cakes. So we go walking and see a place labelled BAKERY. But it is a Dominican place and the employee didn't understand what "pie" was, so she called her co-worker who said, "Apple Pie?" And I said, sure. So she grabbed this wedge-like thing. A flaky pastry wedge with apple-y material within. Kind of like a giant strudel. Only a dollar for it. And you had to eat a lot of the pastry to get to the filling. Not bad, but it just didn't feel like pie to me. Does it count as pie if the employee sold it to me as pie??

Jane, she's just STARTED Kritzer Time.  I've removed that post, Jane, just in case.

vixmom - glad you finished Kritzerland and have moved on to Kritzer Time.  The incident that opens that book is based on truth - every single word of it.  In fact, Jane probably won't mind me telling you that the car that was borrowed belonged to her sister.  Oops.

We must have much more detail about PIE.  Glad to see people have already had some - is it ALL apple thus far?

And meat pies, of course, count, too.  As long as they are described in loving detail.

After my big mistake I'm done cooking and posting.  I had better concentrate on getting the meal cooked for tonight.

I went and ran several errands and had meant to go look for a "no sugar added" pie, of which I can eat a tiny piece of now and then...but I plum forgot to stop at the grocery store.

I do need some luncheon meat so maybe I will run to Safeway and peruse the bakery.

DE-LOVELY is so bad that even shrinking it for the relatively small TV screen didn't help it. It's just bad - bad conception, bad execution. Speaking of execution, that's what Irving Winkler deserves for thinking he was doing anyone any favors with this monstrosity.

I have already gotten three e-mails from total strangers about my EW letter. All three thanked me for what I had to say.

But the real thanks should go to Mark Harris, the TV critic who wrote the particular piece I was referencing.

Well, the little pastries at the buffet aren't all that tasty - I usually eat orange slices for my dessert. The almond cookies are better. I had a couple of them.

DR td, I know you've taken a lot of kidding about being Martin Mull's twin, but your avatar also reminds me of another star - Ted Levine who plays Captain Stotellmeyer on MONK (and became infamous in THE SILENCE OF THE LAMBS). Has anyone else ever mentioned any resemblance?

Now, Jane, it wasn't a big mistake.  I do hope you come back later with details of the meal - especially the corn bread.

I HATED every single second of De Lovely.  Irwin Winkler was a fine producer (with his partner Robert Chartoff).  He is living proof that good producers usually make awful directors.

Does anyone know anything about a new movie called Hide and Seek?  I can see it tonight, but don't want to go if it's no good.

Speaking of MONK, Faith Prince was the guest star on last night's episode. Completely devoid of glamor and made frumpy beyond belief, she was almost unrecognizable, and I did a double take once I spotted her.

The show itself was really lame this week, a really weak double plot that a five year old could see through. Plotting has never been a strong suit with MONK anyway, but I found this one especially lacking.

I know HIDE AND SEEK has gotten horrendous reviews almost across the board. I think you could find a better way to spend your evening, bk.

Sorry, but there's no pie anywhere in the house. We do have a gingerbread cake, and I will be digging in to that as soon as I finish this here sandwich.

I'm mooching off the neighbor's wireless Internet thing. Isn't technology great? The downside, though, is that I don't have an excuse to not post the assignment for my IAAAAWWOTD class.

Yes, I just read some of the reviews.  It sounds awful and I shall not be seeing it because apparently it's one of those films that scares you with lots of loud music and noise every five minutes.

I noticed that MATRIX: REVOLUTIONS comes on tonight on HBO-HD. I was so disappointed in MATRIX RELOADED that I never bothered with this, but I have to admit I'm a bit curious to see how things wrap up. The HD version might be worth checking out, at least for a few minutes. I can always flip off it if it's as tedious as the second one.

The Screen Actors Guild Awards comes on tonight, too, but TNT is thoughtfully repeating the ceremony at 10 if you can't watch at 8.
