Sad to say, I have made that drive to NYC for the last time in my life. I think I've talked about all those years my aunt and uncle would drive us to to NYC (take a leisurely two days to get there) and then drive home (in an endless one day). Long car trips are truly an anathma to me now.

One of these days, though, I will be spontaneous and just hop up there for the weekend.

You were introduced to me by my longtime friend William Orr, or by mutual friends introduced to me by Bill Orr.

I think you're complicating the issue.

Woody and I have known Jose before, and are journeying to NYC to take a walk with him and his friends; that you and I also post to the same internet site is incidental. Our personal meeting is faciliatated by mutual friends all of whom have met others in various combinations.  

I think you can make a black and white rule that says minors can not meet with anyone thay met on the Internet unless a parent is present. "PERIOD. NO DISCUSSION. BECAUSE I SAID SO."

It is obvious, even to a 12 year old, that adults do meet in person after initially meeting on the internet. It should be an easy black-and-white rule that says what's OK for adults is not OK for minors. Also, most responsible adults plan their first-time in person liaisons with inter-net friends in a neutral, public arena. For minors, add the "parent present" rule.

Actually, our NYC walk is a perfect example of how adults, who have only met on the internet, can get to know each other personally in a responsible fashion. (This presumes, however, that Woody and I don't waylay you as we pass an alley, and turn you over to the white slavers we have prearranged to be present in said alley - a short ride to the piers, a neat tuck into a container, and by morning you can be on your way to many new foreign adventures!)

Good afternoon, all!  DRMBarnum has been a lovely houseguest, but I oid get testy with him last night, I'm sorry to say.   However, I hope he will continue to visit Manhattan and he is always a welcome guest.

I'm fighting headache right now, so I think a nap and some Tylenol are in order.

DRJason, I'm quite fond of that WEST SIDE STORY recording; I think Paul Manuel may be the best recorded Tony, and my frioend John Owen Edwards conducts it quite nicely.  Some of the American accents are peculiar but no worse than a BBC LITTLE WOMEN video I once watched where the New England housekeeper spoke with a Southern drawl.

Which is why I am comfortable with this meeting.  Vixdad and I have previously met a good number of the people who will be there in the next two days, meeting at a theatre and a restaurant., in a large group and also accompanied by another couple (Bill & Joe) who are long long time  (nearly 30 years) friends.

HOWEVER despite black & white rules etc I am not that far removed from my adolesence that I have forgotten my feelings of  "Well I'm nearly an adult , if it's ok for them it's ok for me " however misguided I now see that they were.

I prefer not to open that door and I am asking you to please  respect my wishes.  If this will be an issue for you please let me know now and I can make my plans accordingly

So...

Here's the general timetable for the Eating and Walking Tour on Wednesday.  I hope I've allowed for sufficient time for shopping, browsing and gawking along the way in each neighborhood.  There will be a chance to take a brief sit-down break in The Village, and there will be a longer "break" once we get to Chelsea Market.  Otherwise, just keep walking.

We really will be covering a lot of ground both literally and figuratively.  While we may linger here and there, there will be many places that we will sort of gloss over.  However, my hope is that this tour will whet your appetite for future trips to NYC, and spark your own sense of exploration.  Feel free to take notes along the way.

I just wanted to give you an idea now of where we'll be be and when we'll be there.  Especially for those folks who may be joining us midway and/or parting from us midway.

*I've made one adjustment in the schedule, which will be sort of a surprise... But... Well, I'll just leave it a surprise for now.

Without further adieu:

*These are just general landmarks and times.  I'll take care of filling in the "in betweens" in person.  Some of the times may look close together, but they really aren't that close.  You'll see.  They are more or less the "latest" times that we will arrive in each neighborhood.  Keep in mind Chinatown, Little Italy, SoHo and the Village are basically with the span of six blocks - 2nd Ave to 8th Ave.

9:30 - Meet at Rockefeller Center on the Plaza "behind" the statue of Prometheus.  Train down to the Lower East Side
10:00 - Lower East Side Station - Exit at 1st Ave and Houston
10:45 - The Donut Plant, 379 Grand
11:15 - Chinatown - Mott & Canal
12:00 - Little Italy - Grand & Mulberry
12:45 - SoHo - Prince & Greene
1:30 - The West Village - Bleecker & 6th Ave
3:15 - Chelsea Market
4:45 - Midtown/Theatre District
6:00 - LEAVE for Columbus Circle - *This is where the surprise may come in.  I'll post more details as needed.

However, at 6:00, those who wish to return to your hotel to freshen up, drop off packages, etc., may do so at that time.  Otherwise we will continue up Broadway to Columbus Circle and eventually up to La Cocina over the next two hours.  Plenty of time.

And if anyone would like to go back to The Shops at Columbus Circle to explore it more fully - either before Wednesday or after Wednesday, feel free to ask.
