Just wrote three pages and I'm still not finished with the story - it just keeps going in interesting directions. I'm still probably two or three pages from finishing, and it may end up being the longest short story in the collection - close to fifty pages.

DRJMK - Pwoject Wunway brings together a group of designers of various ages and skills and each week they are given a couple of days to complete a design project.

One or two of the designers are eliminated every week on the basis of their design (and the whims of the producers) - the final three get to show designs during NYC Fashion Week and then the winner is given a some kind of contract at Banana Republic and money to start his/her own line.

This is only the second season for the show. It is interesting.

Ah...the Tibetan Yak is domesticated, the Himalayan yak is wild.

But neither is a rare as the Marco Polo sheep which has been hunted almost to extinction.

A ZOO IN BUDAPEST, which I watched not long ago on FMC, was a disappointment after a great start.

But as for Zoos in the non-cinematic world, the Toledo Zoo is the best I've been to. Really well-laid out. And a great aquarium to boot. I once saw two tortoises having sex there. With each other. It was a ridiculous sight.

The Bronx Zoo, well, I'm not a huge fan. I think it is too spread out. There I saw two tapirs attempting to get it on. Also with each other.

There is nothing as amusing as parents watching transfixed as animals get busy, and then trying to explain when their kids ask what's going on.

Jacksonville has a very nice zoo. Great birds.

Chicago has not one but two zoos, which I went to as a youngster. I don't remember the difference between the two or which is better. But, I think it was at the Lincoln Park Zoo, my dad snapped a photo of a baby elephant as it was showing off a bit, and it got a bit dazed, fell into a pit, and its mother went berserk. They had to close the elephant house. If you've ever been near a berserk mother elephant, then you know how loud that can be.

And that is enough about me and zoos.

Good Afternoon!

Well... My workout was a little harder today than I thought it would be. But that was a good thing. I took a break last week from the one hour routine I've been doing in order to get my running regimen back on track, so... Some things were easier, but other things took a little more effort than I thought they would. "Hey?!?? What's up? I'm stronger and healthier now, so why am I working so hard?" But, again, it was a good sweat.

*And my post-workout banana-berry smoothie is quite deelish!

I've been busy with work and also Jury Duty so I'm just getting around to listening to Showtime this week. I'm on with a review of the recently closed In My Life. Click 15 twice and 5 once. You will skip ahead 35 minutes to the middle of a number from Me and My Girl (the London Cast Recording). When the number is over, Beverley introduces my segment. It's at about 19:38:05 minutes on the clock.

...And after reading a bunch of the information on New York Marathon site... I think I'm going to go ahead and apply for the "Entrance Lottery" once the applications go up next month. And then if I happen to win a spot in one of the starting corrals, well, I'll just go from there. *They receive over 85,000 applications for about 35,000 slots.

There are also some sample training schedules on the site for everyone from a "first time marathoner" to "expert marathoner". -And most of those schedules start up in July - four months out. So... Since it's only January... Hmm...

Do seaquariums count as zoos? If so, the Seattle Aquarium, which we saw on our visit there in 1998, is a real favorite.

And if we're counting Disney World, I'd also agree that the Kilimanjaro Safari ride is a great way to see animals that seems to be being treated well.

The Animal Kingdom at Disney World is also the home of Dinoland USA, where I believe you can find Dino at the piano.

Actually, the first time we were at Dinoland, we rode the "Countdown to Extinction" ride, but apparently someone decided the title was a turn-off because by the next time we went, it had been changed to simply "Dinosaur!" - the exact same ride, though, maybe just a bit less wild and scary.

I grew up pretty much across the street from the New York Aquarium in Brooklyn, so that became old hat. Wonder if they're revamping it with the plan to make Coney Island a major tourist spot.

I hate zoos.

And if you believe that, I've got a great piece of land I'd like to sell you...it's on the moon.

I love the London Zoo, Louisville Zoo and Central Park Zoo. I've been to the Bronx Zoo nearly 10 times in the last three months. It's great. But, I have to agree with Rodzinski - it's a little too spread out. They freely admit that you won't be able to see the whole thing in one day. I've figured out a way to see the whole thing, but that's because I know the place like the back of my hand now.

My favorite zoo, though, is the St. Louis Zoo. It's HUGE and BEAUTIFUL.

I sometimes feel badly about animals being kept in captivity, but I look at their exhibit environments and the care that they receive (particularly at the Bronx Zoo, where they breed endangered species for repopulation) and I realize that they have a much better chance of survival in captivity than they ever would in the wild.

Also, 99.9% of the zoos in the world are now housing animals that have been born and raised in captivity. It's a very rare instance where a zoo will bring in an animal from the wild and put it on exhibit. They have very extensive breeding and exchange programs with other zoos to prevent chromosomal interbreeding, therefore preventing birth defects and mutations. It is my understanding that the only reason an animal is pulled out of the wild and placed into a zoo nowadays is if the animal is injured or displaced due to loss of habitat. Most of the animals you see on exhibit in any given zoo were born and bred in captivity and would not know how to survive on their own if they were returned to their natural habitat.

The only complaint I had about the Bronx Zoo is actually in the process of being remedied... The large reptile enclosures (for the 'gators and crocs) were entirely too small for the animals that were being held there. The Zoo is currently renovating those exhibits to make the spaces more comfortable and habitable for the animals.

Thank you for the Dublin pics DR Ben. Of course people should really be in Wenceslas Square on the feast of Stephen. Last time I was on that Dublin Bridge there was heavy rain.
