Hmm one of those translator sites says tablespoon is "cuiller a soupe".  I think my mag says "c. a soupe". So i guess that will work. I hope!

I've heard of Steve Zodiac!

I loved this show when I was little.  I don't remember him looking so scary on the TV , but then it was a lot smaller and in black & white!

TOD:

The very first tune that popped into me head was "I Wouldn't Bet One Penny" from DONNYBROOK.  Also:

"It Couldn't Please Me More" -- CABARET
"Small Talk" -- THE PAJAMA GAME
"Lovers On Christmas Eve" -- I LOVE MY WIFE

I will not be seeing Ring of Fire ever.  Its producer and "conceiver" was the gentleman (and I use the term very loosely) who was somewhat majorly responsible back in October 2001 for the debacle that happened with a certain unnamed business concern.  The fact that he walked away from that business concern unscathed, after doing all the things I was accused of (but was innocent of so doing), is cause for eye-rolling wonder.

Well, I recently read a novel which has a very similar plot, only in that work of fiction, a similar but completely fictional character doesn't walk away from anything, if you get my drift.

Hmmm... Jarrod Emick... :)

-I do have to say that as sexy as he was in the revival of Damn Yankees he was also heart-breaking (in a good sense).   So glad he won the Tony that year.

*And I've heard nothing but "good buzz" about Ring of Fire.  Who knows?  Maybe after the success of Jersey Boys and now Ring of Fire... It's the rebirth of the Jukebox Musical!

Ben, nobody has any idea, and it shouldn't stop you from seeing the show or enjoying it (if you enjoy it).  Re the good buzz - it's all emanating from the producers' office - at the time of its Buffalo run there were many posts about how awful it was - they lucked out with a few good reviews, but, you know, we're talking Buffalo not Boston or New Haven.

And they've gone from "yes, even though we can't mention Johnny or June Cash, it's about their lives" to "it's not actually about Johnny, it's an American tapestry."

Thanks, Bruce  :)

At least it's a TDF ticket, not full price. Of course that's how I see most of my theatre, either TDF or free if I can swing it.

Charm song is exactly what it described in the Kleban lyric - a song from a musical that may not make you emotional, may not bring you to tears, may not necessarily advance the plot, may not make you laugh out loud, but simply makes you smile.

Popular is indeed a good example, as is Wouldn't It Be Loverly.

A charm song that's become a favorite of mine was used in BK's What If?, "When You're Waiting For Love," and coincidentally was written by BK himself!  I think it's a delightful song. :)

Charm songs:

I am very partial to Rhode Island Is Famous for You (it's a show tune from an obscure Dietz and Schwartz revue, Inside U.S.A.)

Even though it's probably more a comedy song I always smile when I here Officer Krupe from WSS.

I also smile at Elegance from Dolly

I've always been fond of EVERYBODY WANTS TO TAKE BOW from HAZEL FLAGG.  Would that qualify as a charm song? Also from that show, A LITTLE MORE HEART.

Ring of Fire with Johnny Cash songs, but it's not about Johnny Cash?

I have a tune i always find myself humming and then adding new lyrics to the piece.

The largo from Bizet's Carmen... I have tried various tricks to get it out of my mind....

My tune is Zippity doo da, zippity do di oh what wonderful day....

Another example of how the world has descended into a sleazy, sensationalist cesspool.  The Buttafuocos and Amy Fischer have a agreed to appear in "a televised reunion".  I'm sorry!  But when you try to murder your lover's wife, there is no reunion!  You don't all get together and cozily reminisce about the good ole days.

All three of the principals involved can only be agreeing to this for one reason: money. As a little man named Welch once said to another famous historical scumbag:  "Have you no sense of decency?"  The Television station has none; the Buttafuocos and Fischer have none; the morons who would watch this have none.
