Title: TWISTS
Post by: bk on January 15, 2009, 12:06:07 AM
Well, you've read the notes, the notes had twists, and now it is time for you to post until the twisted cows come home - they're currently twisting like they did last summer.

BK from last night:

If you don't know the difference between The First Nudie Musical and PORN I'm not sure how to help you understand.

Of course I know the difference, and I also know that many denizens of the Religious Right would definitely consider it PORN. With one or two EMails I could have a busload of picketers outside LACC in a flash.

Remember these are the folks who burn books like Huck Finn and Harry Potter.

While you're at it, could you also send a busload or two over to one of the dozen or so Scientology "houses" along Hollywood Blvd?  ;)

OH!

It really was cool being at Good Stuff Eatery (http://www.goodstuffeatery.com) earlier tonight - well, last night at this point and time.  The kitchen and serving area is downstairs, and the upstairs seating area has at least five flat screen TVs.  There were lots of other people who came in tonight to watch "Top Chef" along with Spike besides myself.  -Of course, I was the only who brought him pizza and Sour Patch Kids.  ;)  -But, I'd have to say, the burger, fries and milkshake were more than a fair trade.  :)

AAAAAAaaannnddd....

I had an absolutely wonderful catching up with my friend, Rachel and her husband.  Rachel and I met when we were both working on a production of Company - I was a pianist, and she was a violinist in the pit.  -WOW!! That was 23 years ago!?!?!?!?  Anyhoo...

She married a great guy, Robert, and they have two beautiful and talented daughters, Madeleine and Olivia.  We hadn't seen each other in a while, but it was truly like no time had passed at all.  -There really is a great "comfort" and "peace" knowing and feeling(!) that some things have not changed.  :)

Oh...

DR elmore - It looks like I will be staying down here through at least Saturday.  -But I know I'll definitely be back up in NYC before Tuesday's Inaugural Activities Commence.  -They're predicting TWO MILLION PEOPLE!!!!!!!!!!!  And they just blocked off more streets in order to accommodate the confirmed 10,000(!!!!) tour busses that will be bringing people into Washington, DC.  No way, Jose!  -Yes, I know it's going to be an "historical day", but, I've actually attended at least four other inaugurations, and they've all been historical.  -I still remember hearing the church bells ringing on the morning of Reagan's first inauguration - the hostages had been set free!  In any case...

The "new" Ford's Theatre:

They actually just built a new building next to the theatre, so now the theatre has a true box office area, as well as a full-fledged lobby!  -So that the groups of students, tourists and audience members alike no longer have the brave the elements on those not-so-nice-elements days.

Just got an interesting call from a friend of mine.  He is a concert organist who has made quite a living over the years playing live performances accompanying the silent film The Phantom of the Opera - the Lon Chaney version.  When he started, years and years ago, they would use film projectors.

Nowadays, of course, they use DVDs.  He has a performance coming up next week, but has never owned his own copy of a DVD.  But the concert organizers apprently have a different version of the film.  Come to find out, there are many, many versions of the film out there now.  The version my friend worked up his accompaniment to is 79 minutes, but there is also a 93 minute version and a 107 minute version.

Who knew it could get so complicated? I told my friend that he should really find and procure his own personal copy of the correct version for the future, just in case.

Today I'll start on my next review project: MY THREE SONS, volume two of the first season. I haven't seen any of these shows since they originally aired (and I wasn't a constant fan of the show during its heyday anyway), so seeing them again should be interesting. It's 18 episodes, and given their age, I suspect they'll each run 26-27 minutes apiece.

I was horrified to remember last night that I didn't watch or record LEVERAGE on Tuesday night. Thank you TNT-HD for scheduling it at other times during the week. I'll be able to get the broadcast on Saturday morning at 9 a.m. so I can watch it while I eat lunch on Saturday.

BK, I am glad that you enjoyed OM SHANTI OM. I know I did, and so did my buddies that went with me...although Chris might still be in shock...although he did later purchase the soundtrack CD.

And as for the soundtrack CD, it only has the songs on it, no background music.

Just read that the latest Donald Strachey mystery starring Chad Allen, ON THE OTHER HAND, DEATH comes out on DVD on February 24th. Can't wait. Since the here! Channel is denied me in the Bible Belt, I have to rely on DVD to be able to see these well produced mysteries. The next one, ICE BLUES, has also already aired on here! so I expect it'll be released in a few more months, too.

DVD:  Make 'Em Laugh, which I need to review

CD:  Singers Unlimited.  Aaaaaaahhhhhhhhh.

I could use a few WEEKEND VIBES--Betsy and Gabe are on their way to NC for a Bar Mitzvah pre-crack o' dawn tomorrow, and I always worry when they fly.  Then Zach is with me all weekend and I have a killer weekend--all day auditions for "Producers" on Saturday, an industrial gig that night that will last until the wee hours of Sunday morning, church on Sunday, and then callbacks at "Producers."  Zach is being a trouper--he'll come with me to the theater, sleep over at a friend's Saturday, then back with me all day Sunday.  But I bet this isn't his idea of a fun weekend.  Come to think of it, it isn't for me either.  :)

Speaking of English, and because the Singers Unlimited are doing this song right now, I'm sure the improper (non)use of the subjunctive in "Killing Me Softly" bothers everyone else here as much as it does me.

Oh btw, the amnio is over.  It seems like it went okay. My sis said it was much less everything that what she expected. The doctor said that the needle was very far from the baby.

The odd thing (makes no sense to me) is that they (my sister and brother-in-law) are required to bring the baggie across town to another hospital???  I've never heard of such things. That means every single patient in that waiting room will have to do the same thing. The worst part is they never mentioned this (and it is freezing, like -36C).

Also my mom and i will have to go over and watch my niece. I was over there yesterday and asked if i should go over. Apparently my brother-in-law did not realize my sis would be on bed rest (i did that is why i asked!).

Yes it is odd that they had to transport it themselves. To another hospital across town. And on a freezing day with no notice. At least if they had told them people could have made arrangements.

I think she has to stay in bed for 24 hours.

re: the celery. I would like the flavor. But i am not crazy about pieces of celery. So i may put some in the food processor and hope it gets fine.

Yeah it's waiting the 3 weeks for the results that is hard.

I can't imagine transporting your own baggie is that common!

You'd think that there would be some sort of rules against that. Even though it's all closed it doesn't seem that sanitary for anybody to be transporting their own fluids.

Nothing weird or crazy about any of those additions to me.  -Now, I don't think I would put all three of those together at the same time, but...

Relish is much easier to add instead of chopping up pickles.  -And a lot of classic chicken salad recipes call for pickles/relish, since it's just like tuna salad, but using chicken instead.

Now, I'd probably use the feta and cranberries together, and probably add some walnuts or almonds too to the mix.  -There's a great salad combination of feta, cranberries and toasted hazelnuts mixed with radicchio and romaine.

DR Jennifer, I am so surprised your sister had to drive the fluid to the lab instead of going straight home to rest that I did a brief google search.  Resting, or taking it easy, is highly recommended.  I also read different times needed for the results.  They were 7 to 10 days.  I wonder if your sister calls in two weeks if the results might be in.

I just read that they are planning to close down The Motion Picture Country Home due to lack of funds.

Let's hope some of those multi bilionaire movie stars and producers will chip in and do something about this!

(when I kick the bucket half of my life insurance goes to the MPCH)

Now what will you do?

Keith's mother's famous cousin lived there.  We never met him though I asked a number of times if we could go.  I figured if we took Keith's brother with us the staff would know we were related.

Book: "The Amazing Adventures of Kavalier & Clay"

Movie(s): "Cinema Paradiso" ("Longtime Companion", "Slumdog Millionaire")

Play: As Is

Musical: Sunday in the Park with George

These made me think of others.

Ditto Amazing Adventures

Ditto Longtime Companion

Ditto As Is and add Normal Heart

Ditto SITPWG and add Falsettos (the whole thing)

I ditto all of your dittos (Except for AMAZING ADVENTURES which I have yet (inconceivably) to read)

I hope i can stay in for the next two or three days, finish Act One Scene Two of the Happiest of Fellows and get on to Scene Three, tackle a few BIT Act Two edits and finish the work for Brent Barrett.

I've started the most wonderful autobiography: UP FRONT by Victor Spinetti, and I'm finding it hard to stop reading it.

I am currently using the ones left over from my surgery. Vixdad persuaded me to use one last night and it really helped a lot so I took another one this morning. The only problem is they are HUGE pills so I have been cutting them into 4 pieces so I can get them down.

The good thing is that even though the dosage says 1 -2 pills every 4 -6 hours I fiound one pill lasted me all night, so hopefully the one I took this morning will last all day.

The RN at radiology said she would have the doctor prescribe a liquid painkiller that I could pick up tomorrow.

Did you check with a Dr. or your Pharmacy? Cutting some pills into parts is not a good idea - particularly if they are coated to control active ingredient release rate.

If you don't want celery try some celery seed.

Olives (green black or both) add a nice touch.

If you want crunch, but not celery, use apple.

Alas, with all the security and street closures, they are also telling people to expect to walk at least two miles in the cold on Tuesday.  The local authorities are really worried that some people may let their passion and excitement override their own personal awareness and well-being - especially the elderly.

Continued vibes all is well!

I wonder if things are different here with medicare.  I'm guessing she did not go in and let my brother-in-law deliver the package.

It is weird to me too. Especially not to tell people that they will have to do this.  What would have happened if they had not been able to fit them in until the end of the day.

I'm reading all kinds of crazy additions to chicken salad.

Relish.

Feta.

cranberries.

To me the relish sounded semi-normal.

I love feta. So it wasn't that i thought i would dislike it. It's just i never in a million years would have thought to include in a chicken salad.

And the cranberries sounded just weird to me.

I ended up making a delicious combination.

I had already cooked and chilled the chicken.

I put celery and onion in the food processor. And a bit of dill. Lemon juice. Garlic salt. Pepper. Mayo. And the chicken.  And one tablespoon of relish.

No feta. No cranberries.

I put the chicken in last. Although i wanted it like chicken salad spread and not chunky.

It turned out so good. I had it on a piece of pumpernickel bread. Yum!

I've watched 5 1/2 episodes of MY THREE SONS. This was a VERY low-key show. Almost no laughs, and except for the slapstick when the guys are rushing around the house making a mess, not very interesting.

And I guess Fred McMurray was too busy making Disney movies to be on the set every day. He's barely in some of the episodes despite his top billing. The three sons really are the stars of the show.

The Captain saved them!  He was apparently going to try to land in Teeterboro, but then realized the plane would not make it there.  So he aimed for the center of the Hudson River.

It was only airborne for six minutes - had taken off from LGA, headed north for a bit, and was making the turn southward...

My friend Bryan, the director is seated in front dressed in non slimming black.

DerBrucer, have the birds returned to your feeders?

Yeah - they push their way through.

Still resident: Cardinals, Woodpeckers, Chickadees, Titmice, Nuthatches, Creepers, Doves, Sparrows - missing-in-action - the Blue Jays.

Sounds like my inventory after my morning ritual of pouring birdseed on the deck railing, with the addition of rufous-sided towhees (normally ground feeders) flickers, goldfinches, housefinches & wrens. The robins, mockingbirds and thrashers (our state bird) don't eat the birdseed. And the blue jays are the bullies who like to hog all the food. We have red bellied and downy woodpeckers, including a youngster we call "Downey Jr.".

The here! Channel is not available here in Olympia, but some (all?) of its programing is available on Comcast's OnDemand (for a fee :-\).

Oh, wait, it's Anthony with his new apparel for the frigid temperatures in Wisconsin (he also has some chemical warmers in case the hat, gloves, coat and boots are not enough).

When I lived at the lake I was involved with the Okoboji Winter Games. One year I was in charge of ice bowling.  It was -9 that day and I was standing on the frozen lake. I used the chemical warmers in my boots and gloves and I wasn't cold all day

This is how I imagined it would be on the ferry's rescuing the passengers on the plane.

" Mr. Watta said in a telephone interview that his ferry was diverted to the plane after about two minutes out of port.

"A lot of people were in shock, and a lot of people were freezing,” he said. “They loaded about fifty onto the boat, and we gave them our coats to warm them up and tried to comfort them. We were holding people, hugging them, reassuring them, holding there hands, warming them with our body heat. We tried to take them to the back of the ferry which was warmer because it was furthest from the entrance.

He added: “We provided cell phones so they could call loved ones, a lot of them were so cold that they couldn’t dial so we dialed for them. I would say that everyone on the ferry were heroes for the day, they were all civilians who stepped up in a time of need to help their fellow citizens.”

.avi files are video files.  Does it look like it is loading but just taking a long time?  I know that YouTube has a file size limit (1 GB per file), so it might be converting it to the flash video that it uses.  That could be why it's taking so long.
Title: Re: TWISTS
Post by: George on January 15, 2009, 05:51:06 PM
I found this on YouTube's site:

Quote
Getting Started: Video processing time

Processing time varies greatly depending on the format of your original video, file size, and upload traffic. This could take anywhere from a few minutes to several hours.

If after 8 hours you still see a status message next to the video saying "Uploaded (processing, please wait)," try removing the video from our site and uploading it again. To do this, simply click the "Remove Video" button below the video in question in "My Videos" and go through the full upload process again.

Make sure your video is under 10 minutes in length. We accept most video file formats, including .wmv, .mov, .mpg, or .avi. If your video meets these minimum requirements and still won't upload, there may be a problem with the video compression you're using. We recommend the MPEG4 format at 640x480 resolution with MP3 audio.

No. She was already in the tree -- just batting at the ornaments. Nothing special. It's just been a while since we have had a kitten in the house.

We got Joshie as a kitten in January 2002, so he was grown by the time he saw a Christmas tree. He was feral, so he wasn't really free to play and be a kitten -- he was in "boot camp."

Keith also enjoyed the short version.  Maybe I'll have a surprise tomorrow.

???

Little Orange Kitty no longer falls out of the Christmas tree.

Er--not that I'm disappointed about that--just surprised.

I guess it finally loaded. You can see her face in this one. Nothing spectacular -- just batting at the ornaments.

I finshed the last MY THREE SONS that I had left in mid-episode and then watched six more (making a total of 12 episodes today). I could have finished the set if I hadn't wanted to watch some prime time TV. But I'll be able to easily finish it tomorrow.

And looks like I'll go right into another TV box set for review: the final season of CHEERS.

I skimmed through today's AS THE WORLD TURNS. Nothing and nothing in the previews either.

I caught the tail end of SCRUBS while waiting for GREY'S to come on. SCRUBS is, at long last, in HD. Looked very different from the show I'd watched all those years on NBC.

I enjoyed GREY'S ANATOMY tonight more than I have for months. Kevin McKidd's character now appears more damaged than I suspected he was, and I loved the "new" Alex.

I ended my evening viewing by watching last night's LAW & ORDER episode. Excellent. Loved that arrogant attorney (always enjoy that actor), and the story was quite chilling.

DR Laura, thanks for taking the time to upload Orange Kitty's Christmas Tree Adventures! I loved it!

I forgot to mention earlier today that in one of the MY THREE SONS episodes, Tim Considine was made temporary sports editor of his high school paper (all of the sports articles ended up being about him), and one of the reporters on the staff was played by an impossibly young Beau Bridges.

One of the episodes seemed very unusual for a sitcom. Tramp, the family dog, brought home an old, unexploded stick of dynamite which the family kept narrowly missing dropping stuff on, stepping on it, etc.

Remember that old ALFRED HITCHCOCK PRESENTS episode in which a loaded gun gets passed around from person to person and no one knows it's loaded? This was very similar.

At least they had the good sense NOT to use the laugh track for most of the episode once the dynamite arrived back at the Douglas home.

Have been watching more episodes of M SQUAD. Lee Marvin's acting tones down a lot in season two, thank goodness. I am now enjoying the episodes much more even though many of these episodes are in really, really bad shape.

Still it is nice to have them.

Have been talking on the phone a lot with my buddy Mark (he and his partner James are the ones who recently moved back to Wyoming). His sister Cheryl just found out that she has terminal liver cancer and she is only 46 years old. So sad...she and he husband Kyle are so much fun, and the visited Mark several times when he was living out her in Oregon.

Mark just lost his brother in a motorcycle accident a couple of years back so it has been a rough time for his family.

Back from the very long reading of the very long script.  Must write the notes now.  I did have a response to my response to the annoying e-mail - the response was more annoying than the first e-mail and I now have to make a very tough decision.
