FIRE BREAKS OUT IN NEW JERSEY HIGH-RISE LUXURY CONDO BUILDING
JERSEY CITY, N.J. — Dozens of firefighters battled a fire on Monday night near the top of a high-rise luxury condominium building under construction across the Hudson River from New York City.
…
Firefighters were having trouble reaching the fire, partly because the building's standpipe, or source of water, reportedly was activated only up to the 15th floor.

NYTIMES (http://www.nytimes.com/2007/10/09/science/09babo.html?_r=1&8dpc&oref=slogin) reports on NYMF management:
How Baboons Think
It is far from clear why humans acquired a strong theory of mind faculty and baboons did not. Another difference between the two species is brain size. Some biologists have suggested that the demands of social living were the evolutionary pressure that enhanced the size of the brain. But the largest brains occur in chimpanzees and humans, who live in smaller groups than baboons.

So many fabulous Gershwin songs. The very first one that popped to mind when I read the topic of the day was "They Can't Take That Away from Me."
Among the others I really love: "Liza," "Fascinating Rhythm," "Someone to Watch Over Me," "Of Thee I Sing," "I Got Rhythm."
All of Ira's work in LADY IN THE DARK and A STAR IS BORN is inspired. I particularly love "The Man That Got Away" and "Girl of the Moment."

I spent a good portion of the morning finishing up the MEDIUM box set. Some excellent bonus features in the set including lengthy featurettes on the various story arcs for the season and one that focuses on the special effects that had to be created for season three episodes.

I've had a good three-day weekend.
It included watching "Swing Shift Maisie" with Ann Sothern and James Craig. Lots of fun. I love Ann Sothern and "Maisie" is one of my favorite film series.
I also watched (for the 5 millionth time) "A Room With A View." This time, though, I gambled on the recent HD-DVD release actualy being better than the last sterling special edition.
I didn't think there'd be much improvement, but I imagined there would be some.
I was wrong.
This film looks vibrantly new and sharp and deep and colorful.
It's a-m-a-z-i-n-g in high definition. The DTS sound is stunning.
It's one of a handful of films I consider to be "perfect" and it has its definitive home video presentation in high definition.

I had a DVR cache full of shows to clear out over the weekend including "Smallville," "Supernatural", "Ugly Betty", "Grey's Anatomy", "Ghost Whisperer" and "Moonlight."
Yesterday I had to catch up with "Desperate Houswives" and "Brothers and Sisters" because I was watching DVDs Sunday evening.
SPOILERS[/b]
Of all those shows, two truly stood out: Sunday's "Brothers and Sisters" was emotionally draining. Despite the flawed writing that took Justin back into the Army with an addiction history (would NEVER happen!!!), the return of the wounded Justin was realistic and intense and extremely moving. And now he will have to face excruciating pain or run the risk of becoming, again, addicted should he begin taking pain killers.
Most of the cast members had strong writing in this episode.
The other standout was "Smallville." This episode was s-u-p-e-r-b -- in writing, execution, special effects. Everything was "on" and no holds were barred. This series is apparently moving into a very new and intriguing direction. CK, aka Kal-El, is going to begin "training" at his Fortress of Solitude. Perhaps our CK will learn, finally, to "fly."

Before recordings had widely been disseminated, some UK personalities recorded this song, learning it just from the sheet music, and not realizing the irony in the differing pronunciations of the key words. Well, I don't think I've ever played the song for a Miss Levine, but I have had singers who've come in and not realized what they were supposed to be singing.
My two favorite mispronunciations are:
From "Broadway Bay"
Working for a nice man
Like a Ziegfeld
Or a Weissman
-with "Weissman" pronounced as "WEESE-man". -Come on, at least realize there's supposed to be an internal rhyme there.
And from "Carnival"
I come from a town called Mira
-with "Mira" pronounced as "Myra". Boy, did it take a lot of "strength" to keep a straight face during the audition.
Although, I also "like" it when singers announce that their songs are by:
-StephAn Sondheim
and
-StephAn Schwartz
-
The woman who is singing right now seems quite good - nice high notes and her coloratura and fioratura seems clean too.
Victor Borge used to joke: "She doesn't touch my piano, and I don't touch her coloratura."

Lower Standards Help Army Recruit MoreTuesday, October 10, 2006
…
About 17 percent of the first-time recruits, or about 13,600, were accepted under waivers for various medical, moral or criminal problems, including misdemeanor arrests or drunk driving. That is a slight increase from last year, the Army said.
Of those accepted under waivers, more than half were for "moral" reasons, mostly misdemeanor arrests. Thirty-eight percent were for medical reasons and 7 percent were drug and alcohol problems, including those who may have failed a drug test or acknowledged they had used drugs.
The Army said the waiver process recognizes that people can overcome past mistakes and become law abiding citizens.

I'm sure maintaining an all-volunteer armed services in today's environment is a daunting task; at a minimum we need significant pay increases and an expanded force to balance out deployment time. Even the most optimistic scenario has 50-75,000 troops in the Iraqi area for the next 2-3 years. All this talk about reinstating the draft is certainly a non-starter.

Speaking of getting distracted... some teenage girl who had just gotten her driver's license, got distracted while driving down my street on Friday afternoon and drove her car into the telephone pole in front of my house.
We were not at home for the incident but she must have been driving at some speed as the telephone pole ( the new one that replaced the one destroyed in April 2006 when the teenager boy got dirtracted and drove into it) was split from about a foot above the ground and up about 8 feet, and the back end was "exploded out". The whole thing is leaning over at at angle from about 2 feet up, over a busy street... the guy wire was snapped by the blow as well
(the speed limit here is 30 MPH - why do I fail to believe the driver was obeying that limit?)
There was no note left for us as to what had happened so Vixdad went out with his trusty flashlight and found the name of the pole owner (phone co) and called up to see if the incident had been reported
No report on file.So Vixdad explained the inhernt danger of the situation in great detail and was given a "job #" and told someone would be by in the morning to look
Come morning no one came, and he called again.. no report on file ... "But I personally made the report and here is the "job #" I was given...
not a valid number.... so he explained the whole thing again and was given another job number
He also called the police to see if an accident report had indeed been filed, which it had, (which is how we learned about the teenage girl who we were assured is 'OK' ) The police had been at the scene and had called in the need for a repalcement pole... but they had called the electric co, not the telephone co who actually owns the pole
Well today finally the phone co came and replaced the pole... they put it next the the damaged pole, damaging our cyclone fence in the process (they dropped the pole on the top rail of the fence which badly bent it)....
I opened the front door and stood looking at the crew who stood looking at the bent fence... and then they gradually noticed me...
The crew foreman came up and promised they would repair the rail. Now the phone co had been cutting branches last fall and dropped a big one on another part of the the top rail, but no one was home to stare at then at the time so they drove off into the night.
I said (well I coughed and wheezed at him I must admit) I was quite pleased to hear they would be repairing the rail, as we were still waiting for them to repair the previous damage done and wondered what the expected time frame for the repair might be
oh today, definitely today I was assured, and true to his word they did come and fix the whole top rail , the old and the new damage.
They installed the new telephone pole but did not attach any guy wires, nor did they transfer any of the cables from the old pole to the new pole.... so the old damged pole is still leaning precariously over a very busy street, 3 feet from the school bus stop for three different schools ( primary, elemantary and middle)
Maybe tomorrow it will be taken out.... if someone else doesn't get distracted and drive into it first, or if a big wind doesn't come along and blow it down

What a surprising afternoon for me. I had just started watching some programs on the DVR prior to fixing lunch when my friend John called and wondered if I wanted to accompany him to Target and Circuit City for some shopping at lunch time. Of course I said yes.
We had lunch at a Philly Cheesesteak place - yum!
Then shopping at Target I had a long list of items I had been jotting down waiting for a non-busy time to drive across town to the closest one. Then, wandered among the DVDs and other electronics at Circuit City while he got a universal remote he wanted. A fun and unexpected shopping trip!

DR JRand: A discussion in another forum reminded me of something you may know of:
We were discussing how sad some of us are that S.T.A.R.. a soundtrack specialty store, is going out of business for good (it no longer sells online and has sold off its stock to Screen Archives). Mention was also made of Nostalgiaphon, a mail-order soundtrack specialty store out of Columbus OH.
I recall that a guy from Nostalgiaphon used to attend an annual "cinema lovers" event in Indianapolis. Sometime around 1981 or 1982, a couple of guys from Butler University, who taught film studies, decided to put together an event for a three-day weekend during which time 16mm copies of old films would be shown at scheduled times and to which were invited dealers of films/film-related ephemera. A large room was set up with vendor tables and this guy from Nostalgiaphon would be there with a few cardboard boxes filled with LPs. Lots of networking went on. Lots of schmoozing. Lots of money changed hands. The event got bigger each year. 1984 was the last time I went.
Films I remember seeing include "Come and Get It" and "The Four Feathers."
I have no idea whether that event continued or not. Is this something with which you might be familiar?
-
And I still had time to watch four programs. I began with Sunday's COLD CASE, an unusual "Amish Come to Town" story with a very sad ending. Not the best COLD CASE I've ever seen, but pretty good and a good surprise identity for the killer.
-
Next I watched HOW I MET YOUR MOTHER from last night. It didn't make my laugh much at all. I was disappointed in how unfunny the story was to me. Better luck next week.
-
I finaly got around to last Wednesday night's CSI: NY. Two dead divers found in the East River. The investigation delves into the subway cars sunk in the East River and then at the wrecks below them. The story surprisingly turned into a terrorist bombing scenario! Not the best CSI: NY I've ever seen, more akin to the type of shenaigans they do on CSI: MIAMI.

Then I did a speed-though on today's AS THE WORLD TURNS. No gay storyline today, but the previews do promise them for tomorrow.

I'm really amazed by the chutzpah of some people. There is a man who runs a musical theater group in the Valley. Never mind that he basically usurped my idea for having a musical theater company (yes, he looked at my prospectus years ago), never mind that he basically "borrowed" my idea for the way to fund the first season, never mind any of it. But, here's what I mind - this peckerwood finds out I'm doing a benefit, finds out the date, and then trumps it by two weeks, asking some of the same artists to do his. And today I find out he's - wait for it - doing an AUCTION, too! Maybe I should call him and ask him if there are any other ideas I can give him. I hope this guy, who has thus far been lucky with reviews and Ovation nominations (what else is new) has, from what I've been told, failed miserably in terms of money, which, despite what he's saying (that the benefit is for his being allied with the LA school district so kids can see his shows - another idea he borrowed from me), is why he's REALLY doing this benefit - to pay off debt - nothing to do with schools or kids - just his debt and his trying to fund at least another partial season. All of that is fine - what is NOT fine is the blatant attempt to trump us by two weeks. Well, karma, sir - karma will whup your large ASS.
-
Mr. Toilet Man and Snake are gone, and guest toilet is now working fine.

I'm heading down now to clean the living room and then get back to some viewing. May have time for both a TV show (DEXTER) and THE INVISIBLE.

I'm wondering if this is something you did to make it more easily readable.
DR Ron Pulliam - It all looks readable to me.
-
Here's a YAHOO (http://buzz.yahoo.com/buzzlog/76645/freshmen-in-distress) story on some new TV shows that are considered "in trouble" and possibly due to be replaced.
In comments about "Viva Laughlin"...there's a reference to Hugh Jackman that I don't get. He's not in the show...TIKO ("that I know of" in internet lingo).
The producer.
-
Mr. Toilet Man is here with his snake. Make of that what you will.
Did he show you his snake?
-
Wow, Jennifer, I shold have you keep watch on MTV Canada for HIGH SCHOOL STORIES. Obviously, my epsiode is never shown on MTV America.
Tom, did you ever get a copy from them??
-
Did he show you his snake?
And you know what Fran Drescher says about snakes, don'tcha??
;)
-
And I take it you don't approve of my "health tonic" either?
No! It is fine as long as its your "health tonic" and not mine.
-
DR TCB: Have you had your eyes checked lately, my friend? I have noticed that recent quoted material has been enlarged by you when it is normally reduced in size.

What did he say?

Tom, did you ever get a copy from them??
Nope.

Nope.

DR TCB - Don't feel bad. DR Cason's "situation" happened while he was here in NYC for The Brain, but up until DR Miss Karen's disclosure today, had not been publically mentioned.
-
DP Colin and I watched "S & V" last night.
We had no prior knowledge of the case.
It is so important! Australia is governed by an administration that plays the xenophobic card for political gain. It tried again last week (with anti Sudanese immigrant statements) but was "shot down" by the facts given by the heads of police departments in two of our states.
The treatment of David Hicks (a conviction no matter no what) and the recent politically motivated hounding of an Indian "doctor" here due to his blood ties with terror suspects in the UK are further reminders that Justice is not out there for many.
Thank you Peter and Amy.

I now need to watch "The Odd Couple".

I now need to watch "The Odd Couple".

Up/down, up/down - it's so wacko. Michelle Nicastro called and said she was dropping out because she couldn't attend all the rehearals in West LA. I did damage control immediately - it turns out that my MD had told her rehearsal would be at his place in West LA. She somehow heard an 's' on the end of rehearsal. I told her she'd never have to go to West LA and that she could meet here or we could go there for the one and only rehearsal we'd have prior to the band rehearsal three days before the show. She's fine now.
-
And we still haven't gotten our other smaller check, which is actually OUR (LACCTAA's) money, but has to come through the foundation. Well, it's just taking forever and I finally called over there myself - they'll try to have it tomorrow, but it could even be five days beyond that for reasons they explained to me that now make sense. I'm not happy about those reasons, let me tell you.
-
Off to the office!
-
Thank you Peter and Amy.
And thank you, DR Tomovoz, for your support!
-
I now need to watch "The Odd Couple".
LOL!
I sent your comments to Peter---including this one. It will make him laugh!

And now, for a good-deed story:
David Spade Gives $25K to Arizona Officer's Family (http://www.comcast.net/tv/index.jsp?cat=TELEVISION&fn=/2007/10/09/783322.html&cvqh=itn_spade).

Just feed them panders some fresh bamboo shoots, and they'll be happy.

I stayed home from work today and slept in most of the day.
So did I!
Well, actually, I stayed home from work today, BUT, I went to the Social Security office for a new Social Security card for my Borders' I-9 form, dropped that off at Borders (bought Neil Gaiman's newest collection of short stories and two magazines while there), came home and dropped onto my entertainment room's couch where I watched two and a half episodes of HEROES (Season One) before conking out.
Woke up, made dinner, ran to the grocery store, walked DD Dixie Bell and am once again ready to hit that couch. . .

..Had a chicken Caesar salad.
...
In your condition, shouldn't that be "Braved a chicken Caesar salad"?

Song of India Wilkes - a number in the Gone With The Wind musical, no doubt.
Did Ashley Wilkes ever wear a kurta?

Mr. Toilet Man is here with his snake. Make of that what you will.

The only danger was if I sneezed....and that wasn't a problem for me.

Lavender's Blue (Dilly Dilly)
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Lavender's blue, dilly dilly,
Lavender's green
When you are King, dilly dilly,
I shall be Queen
Who told you so, dilly dilly,
Who told you so?
'Twas my own heart, dilly dilly,
That told me so
Call up your friends, dilly, dilly
Set them to work
Some to the plough, dilly dilly,
Some to the fork
Some to the hay, dilly dilly,
Some to thresh corn
Whilst you and I, dilly dilly,
Keep ourselves warm
Lavender's blue, dilly dilly,
Lavender's green
When you are King, dilly dilly,
I shall be Queen
Who told you so, dilly dilly,
Who told you so?
'Twas my own heart, dilly dilly,
That told me so
I used to sing this all the time when I was a kid...

Anybody out there seen any Wyoming State Quarters. They were released on September 3rd but I haven't run across any yet.

I miss you more! :-*
Case is back in LA safe and sound. His heart is still hurting over the break-up with his not-forever lovin' -- but I have no doubt he'll bounce back when he's had time to process it all and move on. As we all know, it just takes some time....
IT does and send vibes of comfort his way

DVR ALERT!!!
Legally Blonde on MTV at 1:00 PM EST this coming Saturday, 13-Oct!
OMG, I've already set the TIVO!! Can't wait.
-
I would like to second this request. I would be extremely grateful to anyone who could do this. MTV is not played in Canada. There is something called MTV canada. But apparently they are not showing LEGALLY BLONDE.
Me three...

Did Ashley Wilkes ever wear a kurta?
No, only a dress.

SAfety vibes to Vixmom... I hope they remove the pole safely and everything is set right again...

There was a DUI in the area that drove into a person's house just missing the bedroom.

Vibes to bk!
-
Vibes to Edi....
Edi, I saw Peter's work on THE WAR. He did a great job. I sure it took them a long time to put it together. I have seen bits and pieces and it is quite good.
-
Off to peruse the days I missed...
-
Now that I've finally caught up, I've got to shut the windows....it's getting cold in here!
-
No, only a dress.
Were you there, DR TCB, or were you somewhere under the hoops?
-
Nope!
You, Zubrick, and I are in complete agreement on this point! :)
I will, even though I called Truffle a hamster. I know the difference having had both as a child. My Guinea Pig was sweet & smart & always went to me when I called him. The hamsters may have been a little more cuddly, just because of their size and shape.
-
Belated Birthday greetings to JMK!
I hope you had a lovely day!

Thank you for the good news. :) I'll watch for more updates.

edisuarus give me a call. I spoke to Mr. Geissman about our idea.
-
Next I watched HOW I MET YOUR MOTHER from last night. It didn't make my laugh much at all. I was disappointed in how unfunny the story was to me. Better luck next week.
We haven't watched it yet. If it is as unfunny as you say, and as we found the last two episodes, we might drop it from our list of shows to watch.
-
When I'm calling you---ooo---ooo-oooo
-
...you don't answer the phone---oooo----ooooo---oooo----oooo----oooo----ooo
-
Vixmom-WOW! At least your fence has been completely fixed, for now.
-
I just spent 3 hours wrestling with the computer, the stills animation program and trying to find all the pictures I used for the last cut, and finally everything is talking to one another. The amazing this is that me, a total Luddite, managed to do this without any technical support. Serves me right for upgrading to Tiger in the middle of a project!
-
bk, your cell #is the only one I have handy at the moment.
-
BTW, I ordered one of Mr. Geissman's books a few days ago. Looking forward to delving into it!

I finished my taxes yesterday (probably contributed to my pain in the gut). I never thought that I would actually be happy that I made a lot less than the year before, but that's taxes fer ya.

Jst saw a preview for "Across the Universe" a musical movie. Has anyone heard of this?
I'm interested in seeing it when things calm down. In addition to the gold and Mercer doc, I start work on stuff for the 2 part CLOSER that will air in December. And my little French boy just landed and will be in town for a few days.
Oh, and there's that CAT scan tomorrow...

Good luck Edi!

Thanks, Dakota!

I think this will work...click HERE (http://bventertainment.go.com/tv/buenavista/ebertandroeper/index2.html?sec=6&subsec=Across+the+Universe) and then click on "Watch Review" for Robert Wilonsky and Richard Roeper's video review. They very strongly disagree. ::)

While you were at it, why didn't you tell them about the dent in your bumper, that was probably caused at the same time.
-
TCB, you should a package from ND by the end of the week.

Preliminary CAT-scan results revealed the following:
-
Edi, best of luck tomorrow. Do you know how soon you will get the results of the scan?

Cute photo.

If anyone is watching DWS, am I the only one who though Seal started Kissed By a Rose in a different key than the band was playing

Thanks for the "Across The Universe" link DR George. First time I had ever seen or heard E & R!
Very funny - I've never seen (nor wanted to) "Sgt. Peppers....." The recording is so bad. (of course I love the original - including Lennon's Mr Kite (which sounds so McCartney).
-
Preliminary CAT-scan results revealed the following:
Love the bookshelves!

I trust the other scan will be just as non-stressful as this CAT one
I hope so, too. I guess they'll tell me when to expect the results when I go in tomorrow.
I'll b drinking that "yummy" concoction while I'm in my editing session.

TOD - I had a blast in a Gershwin review doing Just Another Rhumba...it was a Lucy sort of routine. I've loved the song ever since.
I love a lot of Gershwin songs, most have been mentioned
A Foggy Day
Someone to Watch Over Me
But Not for Me

and more...many more

DR Edi....kitties that sleep? I guess I have one, the other is hyper until she collapses. Last night she decided to sleep on the side of my head, lol. She cracks me up

Cats can be amusing creatures. I used to have a Norwegian Wood that used to attack dogs... SHe is one cat that garnered a lot of respect from the dogs when she sat on her favorite part of the patio.

DR MattH, did I miss a shooting on Monday?
There was an accident with Luke where he was hurt (his head was bleeding). I don't believe the gun went off, but I was speeding through it so fast that I may have missed a gunshot if there was one.
-
Question for those with HDTV and digital ones:
ARe they closed captioned capable?
Most definitely.
-
I began my evening by watching on DVD the film THE INVISIBLE which came out in theaters in April (I think). Produced by guys responsible for THE SIXTH SENSE, this has some of the same vibe (only the main character isn't dead but merely in limbo between life and death: really sily) with a seedy side of DAWSON'S CREEK thrown in for good measure. Really mediocre, I thought, and acting barely above average even from someone as talented as Marsha Gay Harden.
The best performance was by Alex O'Laughlin (currently the star of MOONLIGHT) who's playing a parolee character who's a thousand miles away from the vampire he plays on CBS.
-
To both you and elmore, there was a shooting and the bullet grazed him.
-
Page Fourteen Hermione and Harry Dance!!!
-
Thanks for the info...
I will have to get a new telly in the next year or so. My present telly is too old for a converter or a box.
-
Lovely photographs, DR EDISAURUS.
-
I have been following the story surrounding Carly also.
-
Next I watched tonight's BONES episode, a fun little romp with Angela getting ever-closer to finding her husband. Interesting case, too, and a little off the beaten path for this series.
-
DR RLP - I vaguely remember that Film Festival....I can't remember the name of it either....but I do remember that in the couple of years it was in existence they always showed a Frances Farmer film....the year after COME AND GET IT, they showed EXCLUSIVE....
And then it disappeared.
-
Skipped DWS tonight to watch 49 AND UP on POV on PBS....still a fascinating film.
-
HOUSE had one of its most heart-wrenching episodes ever.
-
Ended the evening with DAMAGES which has only two episodes left. Major events happened tonight complete with a couple of dead bodies.
-
I forgot to mention of THE INVISIBLE, there were 11 deleted scenes I watched and two horrendous music videos of songs featured in the movie, both hard rock.
Tomorrow I'll go through both commentary tracks.
-
If the pole is not repaired, where will DR VIXMOM practice her dance routine?
-
In answer to a question earlier today - for Wednesday:
Jupiter has been squaring with independent Uranus in freedom-oriented Sagittarius since January 2007. We finally reach the third and final square in this series today -- just in time for you to put the finishing touches on a relationship you’ve been working on. Indeed, if you have learned to color outside of the lines and rules that others have set for you, you have a wonderful sense of spaciousness in your life. Liberate yourself.
-
Going to do a bit of writing, and then will be heading down for bedtime.
Good night!
-
And since I have to be up early again tomorrow morning...
Goodnight.
-
and good luck.....
-
Molly arrives today.....in the middle of rush hour traffic....and then a preliminary wedding rehearsal....
-
Back from a yummilicious dinner with the cousins and must now sit on my couch like so much fish - but not before telling you that we've added David Burnham to our fundraiser - Mr. Burnham most recently played the male lead on Broadway and on tour in Light In The Piazza, and he's appeared on a couple of my albums, too.
-
Jose - I was doing some tax work from home, and reached a point where I couldn't continue without some files that were in the office.
that's my story and I'm stickin' with it. :)
-
The first time I heard the Lavendar Blue (Dilly Dilly) song was on the Tv show THE GHOST AND MRS. MUIR, when Mark Lester made a guest appearance.
-
never mind...
I cleaned off my reply after I got my "Lesters" mixed up...
-
I would guess that my first hearing of the song was the Burl Ives version in 1949.
-
Ives' version of "Little White Duck" is well remembered too.
-
A very long day. Good night, fellow Dear Readers.
-
I received a set of episodes of THE GERTRUDE BERG SHOW....I don't know why I ordered it. I think I got it for one of my interviewees, but I don't remember who! LOL!
I guess I will find out when I watch the episodes and see if anyone I know is a guest star.
-
....and I hope it is a good show, 'cause there are like 20 episodes that I will need to go through.
-
The library will be closing soon and I iwll bid good night until tomorrow.
Have a good evening everyone.... Take care!
-
And a photograph of our latest edition, the very handsome David Burnham.
-
DR RLP - I vaguely remember that Film Festival....I can't remember the name of it either....but I do remember that in the couple of years it was in existence they always showed a Frances Farmer film....the year after COME AND GET IT, they showed EXCLUSIVE....
And then it disappeared.
That's probably because I left for California!
-
I received the Fox "Horror" box today.
Three films -- "The Undying Monster", "The Lodger" and "Hangover Square."
I watched "Hangover Square" because I've seen it once before, on TV, back in the 1960s. It fascinated me then, and it's no less fascinating now.
I feared the worst for this film's viability for home video since, to my knowledge, this DVD is its first home video release.
It actually looks quite good. I don't know if it's best-available print or the result of major restoration, but it looks pretty darned good. Images are sharp, the b/w contrasts are excellent. And the acting/production design/and most especially the stunning music score are SUBLIME!
And Linda Darnell makes you root for what happens to her!
-
Page 15.
-
Other than the one movie, I watched a bit of "Biggest Loser" and then settled in for one match of Extreme Wrestling on VSGLF, an HD station about which I know nothing...but HD and extreme wrestling were a short-term fascination.
Now it's time for bed. We are having rain and the raindrops are tip-tapping against my windows.
Perhaps when BK writes a musical that has the word "Tip" in it he can have a "Tip Tap" included.
-
Gratuitous post number 14,180.
-
I'm getting a freebie of the Fox box, but not until early next week. Someone I know got an extra copy.
-
Will we never get to page sixteen?
-
I'm really tired.
-
Just turned on Ye Olde iPod for some soothing music. I'm watching Murnau's marvelous Sunrise, but won't finish it this evening. And a very full day tomorrow.
-
Not a page turn, but one for Murnau
-
We NEED a page turn, but, as you can see, save for FJL and I, the jernt has been deserted by the WUSSBURGERS.
-
I will single-handedly take us to page 16.
-
We NEED a page turn, but, as you can see, save for FJL and I, the jernt has been deserted by the WUSSBURGERS.
Not true - silence is not desertion!

-
I just had some S'mores ice cream and I shall now waddle off to bed.
-
I'm watching tonight's "Boston Legal" right now. Just had to share. :)
-
A few days ago, I ordered a couple of CDs from the Australian website, www.middle8.com.au (which has several Kritzerland releases :D)...the re-release of the 1995 musical Only Heaven Knows (http://www.middle8.com/mem/product.asp?pID=2124&cID=360&scID=613) with David Campbell and the brand new 2007 Original Australian cast recording of Priscilla Queen of the Desert The Musical (http://www.middle8.com/mem/product.asp?pID=3665) (I guess they're not having adventures anymore. Tomovoz, have you heard anything about this...good or bad??). So today, I got an e-mail saying that the authorisation [sic] on my Visa didn't go through! Max (the person who sent the e-mail) thought that the expiry [sic] date might be incorrect, but he confirmed the correct date. I guess I'll call my bank in the morning to see if the fact that the order is from Australia might be the problem. I've got plenty of money (right now, anyway) so that shouldn't be the problem. And I'm pretty sure (but not absolutely certain) that I typed in the card numbers correctly. We'll see what my bank says. :-\
