I feel like being an agent provocateur--I want monkey to marry chooster and the two to document their romantic adventures.

And you new Mayor can preside over the nuptials.

I think many of the Jule Styne songs for Mr Magoo and better than those for the Albert Finney version, especially the evocative "Winter Was Warm."

The Mr. Magoo version holds a special place in my heart since that was the version they would always show each year at the Coast Guard Academy's Family Christmas Celebration.  The party would start off with a showing of the movie, and then we would all head out into the lobby for punch and cookies with Santa.  Santa would also give us a Christmas gift, and not just some random Christmas gift, but something we really wanted.  -I always knew that Santa got our letters/wish-lists somehow!  :)

Sadly, I don't think Patrick Stewart's solo-show version of "A Christmas Carol" is available (legally) on DVD or otherwise.

DR Nursie, it's the Albert Finney SCROOGE I detest, much as I like the cast. I remember seeing it and thinking that, while it wasn't a LOST HORIZON disaster, it was just a very ugly film. I probably should watch it again sometme to see if my opinion's changed. I much prefer Alastair Sim, George C Scott and Patrick Stewart adaptations.

I just ordered SCROOGE from Amazon.com; I'll rewatch it.

I meant to be generic, that of all SCROOGE & CHRISTMAS CAROL movies, the Albert Finny one is my favorite.  It is because I never liked any of the versions up until then & I enjoyed Albert Finny so much.  I think I was over exposed to the Mr. Magoo one as a child which I hated with a passion.  I wish I had read A CHRISTMAS CAROL before I ever saw it.

You hated MR. MAGOO'S CHRISTMAS CAROL???  I am shocked and appalled!  That is my all-time favorite verson of CHRISTMAS CAROL, possibly even better than Albert Finney's SCROOGE, but not quite as good as mine.

Oy--I have just gotten off of a one hour phone call with Qwest (yes, the above messages were typed with one finger, I'll have you know--guess which one ;)  ).  Qwest is no longer offering cellphones and is switching over to Verizon, so I called to do that and was on hold FOREVER.  Verizon was claiming we had a past due amount, which is absurd, and it took them forever to figure out their computer system had a glitch.  Of course it was with our account.

Did I mention we woke up to more snow and ice this morning?

A New Years present for BK:

LATIMES

Quote
Text-messaging, 911 use among the many areas affected by new California laws
...
The California Highway Patrol plans no grace period before enforcing the law that takes effect today prohibiting the use of text-messaging devices -- including cellphones, BlackBerrys and laptop computers -- while driving, according to CHP spokeswoman Fran Clader. And a motorist does not have to be caught in a vehicle that is moving to get a ticket.

"Motorists may not text at a stoplight," she said. "They are still operating a vehicle and need to focus their attention on the safe operation of that vehicle."

Fines are $20 for first offenses and $50 for subsequent violations, Clader said.
...

der Brucer

And I'm sure they'll enforce this just as they've done the no cell phone use without an ear device or speakerphone law - i.e. not at all.  As I've said, I have never seen a CHP or cop pull anyone over for blatant cell phone use while driving and so people just continue to blatantly do it.  I've seen them blatantly do it with a cop car NEXT to them and the cops still don't pull them over.  The fact is, I think a cop should be penalized for not enforcing these laws.

I got a good night's sleep.  I did get up before it was light out, but was very careful and all was well.  It's very gray out and looks as though it may rain.  Today I may not do the long jog.

Well, I'd probably be going to both.  *And I do have tickets to the Inauguration (ssshhh), but that also looks like the week I'll be sailing around the Caribbean, so...  I'm supposed to get confirmation of the dates later today, so... We shall see.

I don't know for sure, but since it appears the story had to be assigned to ABC News's "Investigative Team," you can be sure that there's a powerful conspiracy behind this "coincidence."   ;)
