According to the Internet Theatre Database (which isn't always 100% correct but in this case I think it's right)

Good began previews at the Booth Theatre on October 13, 1982 and ran through January 30, 1983 and Plenty began previews on December 28, 1982 and ran through March 27, 1983

so the shows were playing next to each other for a couple of months an in the Good Plenty order since the Booth is next to what was then called the Plymouth Theatre and is now called the Gerald Schoenfeld Theatre (the theatre next to it was called the Royale and is now the Bernard Jacobs Theatre).

Overheard 50 years ago:

Comments Made In The Year 1957
==============================

I'll tell you one thing, if things keep going the way they are,
it's going to be impossible to buy a week's groceries for $20.

Have you seen the new cars coming out next year?
It won't be long before $2000 will only buy a used one.

If cigarettes keep going up in price, I'm going to quit.
A quarter a pack is ridiculous.

Did you hear the post office is thinking about charging a dime
just to mail a letter?

If they raise the minimum wage to $1, nobody will be able to
hire outside help at the store.

When I first started driving, who would have thought gas would
someday cost 29 cents a gallon.
Guess we'd be better off leaving the car in the garage.

Kids today are impossible.  Those duck tail hair cuts make it
impossible to stay groomed.  Next thing you know, boys will be
wearing their hair as long as the girls.

I'm afraid to send my kids to the movies any more.  Ever since
they let Clark Gable get by with saying, "damn" in "Gone With The
Wind," it seems every new movie has either hell or damn in it.

I read the other day where some scientist thinks it's possible to
put a man on the moon by the end of the century.  They even have
some fellows they call astronauts preparing for it down in Texas.

Did you see where some baseball player just signed a contract
for $75,000 a year just to play ball?  It wouldn't surprise me
if someday they'll be making more than the president.

I never thought I'd see the day all our kitchen appliances would
be electric.  They are even making electric typewriters now.

It's too bad things are so tough nowadays.  I see where a few
married women are having to work to make ends meet.

It won't be long before young couples are going to have to hire
someone to watch their kids so they can both work.

Marriage doesn't mean a thing any more; those Hollywood stars
seem to be getting divorced at the drop of a hat.

I'm just afraid the Volkswagen car is going to open the door to
a whole lot of foreign business.

Thank goodness I won't live to see the day when the Government
takes half our income in taxes.  I sometimes wonder if we are
electing the best people to Congress.

The drive-in restaurant is convenient in nice weather,
but I seriously doubt they will ever catch on.

There is no sense going to Lincoln or Omaha anymore for a
weekend.  It costs nearly $15 a night to stay in a hotel.

No one can afford to be sick any more; $35 a day in the hospital
is too rich for my blood.

If they think I'll pay 50 cents for a hair cut, forget it.

A note on last evening's "South Pacific":

It was a real joy to have the work performed with so many musicians - all of Robert Russell Bennett's orchestrations right up there - front and center.

It's sad that today's musical theatre is reluctant to really fill out a pit and let the music shine; the "Wonderful Town" revival, a welcome exception.

Would it be a fair guess that's last night's music orchestrations drew more from the film than the original show?

der Brucer

PS It was nice to hear a Nellie that sounded like she was from Small Little Rock.

To my somewhat tin ear, the orchestrations sounded like the stage musical.

I thouroughly enjoyed last night's presentation.  I was prepared, at the most, to be bored by it, but found myself loving the majority of it.  I thought Stokes and McEntire were ideal in those roles.  Not so crazy about Cable and Liat.

Not so crazy about Cable and Liat.

Cable seemed to be having problems with his mid-range.

And only a consumate professional like Alec Baldwin could loose his place in a reading!

George, Frankie Howerd was Pseudolus in the first London production of Forum (A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the). I have it on CD. They call it a "soundtrack" at Amazon but it's the London cast recording.

Forum

Someone on amazon.co.uk is selling the London "Forum" for £149.99!! :o That's almost $300!!

20 pages! Excellent!

Ben, were you the one who most kindly sent me a copy of the London "Forum" CD?  I've had the album for years, though.

Hoo and Ray, my Memorial Day plans are shaping up. I'm going (with a friend) to DC to visit other friends and to see Miss Christine Baranski in Mame at the Kennedy Center! My friend in DC is a KC member so she's taking care of the tickets. We will get in probably Friday night (it's a half day at my office) and return to NY on Monday.

I would love, Love, LOVE (that's three loves in increasing intensity ;)) to see this!!  I'm jealous!

If it was, it fell flat - and disrupted the concert's continuity.

Ben-
Yup, the Hamlet plays. We're opening Saturday, as you could see. Last night was our first rehearsal in the actual space!

The writers had to pick a character from Hamlet to write a play about. My friend chose Ophelia.

It is a cute piece, and it was taking some time to gel. But I think we've turned a corner and it's going to work. Ah yes, Carrot-stick girl... She has some comedic skills. Have had to get rid of some weird mannerisms she sometimes develops, but haven't had any carrot-stick issues. She was eating a burrito yesterday prior to rehearsal, so I have heard her eat.

Great moments among the 200K:
Definitely meeting so many folks from the site and finding them as cool or cooler in person.  Got just a few more to meet!

I remember one night I had sprained my ankle playing racquetball, couldn't sleep and was just posting on here till 4am.

Seeing TPunk show up on here, because I had been telling her all the time about the site and she'd met some folks with me. And she ended up fitting right in here.

I've only had the vinyl album for years.  I think it was you that sent me a copy of the CD sometime within the last year or so.

Chat is at four o'clock my time - I'll try not to be senile and remember.  I've written two-and-a-half pages so far - the winding down to the end is always difficult because I don't really, in my heart of hearts, want it to end.  It probably won't get to ninety pages - more like eighty-five, but then I've got some additions to do and stuff like that, so I won't know a real page count until that happens.  But it is almost thirty pages longer than Deceit.

Frankie Howerd also had a very funny half-hour show called UP POMPEII which was a  burlesque farce set in ancient Pompeii, very much echoing FORUM and its Roman comedy antecedents in style. He, of course, played the wily slave.  I've got them in Video format...don't know if they ever came out on DVD.

Lunch ran late since I had to take a friend to pick up his car which was being worked on at a local dealership. Thus my video viewing was a bit more limited than usual today.
