I remember buying the Harlan Ellison book "I Have No Mouth But I Must Scream" solely for the cover (I couldn't find an image---it was published in the late '60's) and became an instant fan.

bk, have you considered a beefcake book cover?

That would be a most amusing cover for my new book - you'll understand why when I reveal what it is.

I would still be sleeping (having an odd dream - not a bad dream, in fact, some of it very pleasant - just odd), but for a well-timed call at nine from Mr. Nick Redman, who'll be dropping by later today.

RE: last night's AMERICAN IDOL finale results.

DR RonP, I get that you are annoyed that America voted out the best singer.  And I get that you've decided not to vote.  But I don't really get your bitterness.  The best person does not always win.  Does it have to make you happy?  No.  But from what i understand the votes were very close.  Just because others like jordin and blake better does that make them wrong?

American Idol is not just about finding the person with the best voice.  It's about finding someone who viewers connect with.  I know that you and DR MattH loved Elliot last year. But he did nothing for me.  He had a very nice voice. But i didn't find he had much personality or charisma. And i didn't care for his look.

This year i know that you both (and many many people) loved melinda.  Now i've heard some people say that simon's insistance for her to go to the F2 is what harmed her (i still say that was a huge boost for her).  But just because she had a fantastic voice (which i will agree with) does not mean that everyone had to love her.  I personally liked her a lot, but just found her sort of dull.  Every song was beautifully sung but there was no real difference between any song (to me).

I almost never prefer the winner (and didn't care much for taylor last year and Clay was my favorite).  But we can't necessarily be sure which winners and runners-up will tank.

I really like blake and just because you don't care for his style doesn't mean you have to diss him.  I thought his piece last night with his dad was special.  Viewers like him and think he is different.  Does he have the best voice in the world. No.  And maybe that is what bothers you.  But i think this show is about finding stars.  Should melinda have been in the finals. Probably.  But still jordin and blake aren't as bad as you say.

RE: last night's MEDIUM

SPOILERS

I'm not totally sure how i feel about the finale. There were a lot of things i liked. But some things that bugged me.

First, re: what DR FJL said about them letting neve campbell's character die.  I was a bit surprised that alison didn't prevent it. However Neve was warned so many times.  To me it actually made little sense that she wouldn't pay attention to the warnings. I think any normal person would. Even if they didn't believe in alison's abilties.

I guess i'm not so surprised that neve's character died (i mean it was inevitable since she knew her killer and would have let him in even if she was being cautious).  I guess i just would have liked it to happen (the death) but still have her either believing alison or at least taking precautions.

The other thing that bugged me is that usually these cases are not usually so obvious.  I don't know about anyone else, but to me from the beginning of the show it was COMPLETELY OBVIOUS that Jason Priestly's character was the killer.  It's never that obvious. But this time it was.

I was also annoyed that joe was "fired" and that his lawyer "dumped" him. I just don't see those things happening.
I would have liked to see that play out the way it was going last week.

I did like the ending though with alison marching in and telling them what was what.  Although since she had already dreamt part of that scene i wonder why she never told her boss that his "friend" was going to take over. I know she has to be careful. But i would have thought she would have told him.

I can't believe we will have to wait 8 months to see how alison is received now. I wonder if they will continue it from where they left off. Or just take us 8 months into the future.

I guess that she will be redeemed. But will she now work out in the open?

Of course, I'm partial to Mr. Harvey Schmidt's covers for the Kritzer books, and Mr. Geissman's cover for How To Write A Dirty Book (which actually uses a great sleaze cover from an early paperback of Irwin Shaw's The Amboy Dukes).

The Rapture has its own press?  Kewl!!  Plenty to read after you've been evacuated.

High Colonic Irrigation is a Rapture prerequisite?

Who knew?

I has bit the bullet and ordered a DVR from my service provider, Cablevision.

I am expecting my entire life to be transformed.

;)

Damn those DRs.   Damn them all to hell!

That DVR will have you straightened out in no time.

DR MattH, this guy at tvguide Michael Ausiello is a huge VERONICA MARS fan. Here is his report from the CW press conference.

I must say I am starting to really dislike the people in charge at the CW. This dawn woman really annoyed me last year. And she is annoying me again!

BTW, for those who watch ABC tonight, the times of most of the shows (not UGLY BETTY) will all be off.

I believe GREY'S is from 9-10:15pm.  With LOST from 10:15pm-11pm.

RE: last night's AMERICAN IDOL finale results.

I addressed a concern you had in your post about people not transferring votes.  I explained why I would not be voting any more.

I futher stated my feelings about last night's results and my opinions about the voting trends.

You may agree or disagree.  But I offer no apologies for my assessments, and I simply will not argue any of my points because I believe them absolutely.

Nick loves Friedhofer as much as you and I, and will do as much as is possible over at Fox, given the elements.  I think there may be one or two more surprises in store, but more I cannot say.

Uh-huh!  Can you "possibly" speculate as to whether the surprise(s) will spring from a Varese club release or another Intrada release...or two?

Good Afternoon!

Well...

I arrived at the rehearsal studio at 9:30.  We started with the coaching at 9:45.  The auditions proper started right at 10:30.  At 11:05, I heard,  "Thank You, Jose."

-What?

"We're done for the day."

Even the reader was caught off guard that we were finished so early.

So, since the sun was out, I took a nice walk through midtown up to Columbus Circle. I stopped into Whole Foods, picked up some groceries - great sale this week on Organic Mesclun mix! - then hopped on the D Train back home.

I've had my lunch - some of the leftover "Szechuan Wonton Sandwich" - and now I'm re-watching Tuesday night's "Idol" with one of my roomies.

Nothing like some unexpected free hours - and on the clock too!  :)
