DR Jennifer - My roommate, Jim, who is admitted "TV-holic", gave "The Starter Wife" a try.  His "try" only lasted 10 minutes.  -If that means anything.

-And I think DR Ron Pulliam was simply stating that if you're interested in watching the show - any show - and it doesn't interfere with your other TV viewing, just watch it.  Form your own opinion, and proceed from there.

DR Jane - To answer your question from the other night:  Possibly tomorrow night. ;)

:)  May you have at least as good an evening as the previous one.

I too would love to live in Portland, but alas I am poor and can only afford Salem.

Maybe if you didn't live in Salem, you wouldn't be poor.  Maybe if you lived in India and roamed the streets in one of your many saris, you might, at this very moment, be a huge Bollywood star.  Or possibly a Bombay drag queen.

Or maybe if DR MBarnum just stopped buying Bollywood movies and ordering Bollywood posters from India for just a week each month, he'd be rich (again).

Open air malls have some issues up here due to the climate....

They do work better in Southern California ;)

I know it's a press release and nothing may come of it but this just in from Playbill On-Line

Promises, Promises

It was the first Broadway musical I ever saw (on Broadway). It was 1971 and Tony Roberts was playing C.C. Baxter and Jenny O'Hara (sister of Jill who originated the part) played Fran Kubelik.

I loved the musical PROMISES, PROMISES.  I only saw the original touring company, but it was wonderful.

It did not warm up as much today as it did yesterday, so I gragged out an old space heater to take the chill out of the air in the den where I have the home theater. Once it ran for a bit, it was fine. And it's fun upstairs where I am now since warm air rises and whatever heat the sunlight is furnishing is gathering upstairs.

I began my afternoon skimming through last night's season finale of GENERAL HOSPITAL: NIGHT SHIFT. I knew Chad Allen's character was gone, but he was mentioned and it gave hope that the character might be brought back next season.

Next, I watched THE MENTALIST while I cooked and ate lunch. I enjoyed the episode very much, but we're in the same situation with him as we are with Allison on MEDIUM. He keeps being right, and the folks in power always doubt him and never give him the benefit of the doubt until he has to prove himself yet again. If the show continues to do as well as MEDIUM as done, I guess five or five years down the line, there will still people thinking he's wrong.

The first mall that I ever heard of in Washington State was the Northgate Mall, north of Seattle.  It wasn't an enclosed mall, but rather was two strips of stores facing each other with a cover over the walkway.  The first Mall I was ever in was the Tacoma Mall which opened in, I believe, 1966.

Having spent most of my retail employment years working in malls, I try to avoid shopping in them at all costs.

I spent the vast majority of the afternoon on the Blu-ray of TINKER BELL. Showing us the origins of the fairy and her role in the world of Pixie Hollow in Never Land, it's a moderately amusing and entertaining animated-for-home film. The CGI is very colorful but, of course, with nothing like the budget of THE INCREDIBLES or NEMO, it can't look as good as Pixar films do. Still, it was pleasant, and I'm sure little girls will love it.

Some star power in the roles of the fairies: Mae Whitman plays Tink, but as her pals there are America Ferrera (UGLY BETTY), Kristin Chenoweth, Lucy Liu, Raven-Symoné, and Anjelica Huston as the Fairy Queen. Jane Horrocks plays Fairy Mary who's the head tinker fairy, and Jesse McCartney plays Terence who dispenses pixie dust (looks like they're setting him up to become Tink's boy friend in a later adventure.)

The bonus items are a little disappointing. There are some games and a music video, some deleted scenes, but the "making of" documentary only runs 10 minutes and only talks about the conception of Pixie Hollow and its inhabitants. Not one word about the marvelous cast they rounded up to do these voices. Strange.

I ended the afternoon skimming AS THE WORLD TURNS. Luke, Noah, et al were on, planning his run for student body president. Kevin, to his credit, was not on board with all the homophobia being spouted about Luke. Be interesting to see where this goes.

This morning my DH and I went for a walk in a city park for about 3 miles. Echo Canyon, which Cillaliz might remember. It took all morning. it was 1.5 miles scrambling up to the top of Camelback Mountain and 1.5 miles picking our way down the  boulders.

Years ago, New Yorkers could have put a roof over 42nd Street and made it the country's first real strip mall.   :D

I miss the old 42nd Street. It was more fun when it was scary to walk down it.

Mooresville had the outdoor Village Shopping Center which had a Ben Franklin Dime Store, Handy Hardware, Kroger, Hook's Drug Store, Hallmark Cards, Habig's Casuals for clothing, and Shoe World....and a few little stores that came and went.  It is still there....but none of the original stores - except Handy Hardware and Kroger (but in a new location) are still there.\

First indoor mall....the Simon's Lafayette Square at Lafayette Road and 38th street.  It is still there as well, but is sort of a ...  well I don't shop there.

DR GINNY - the days are dwindling down to a precious few.  Who will be doing the Grant workshops when you depart?

Miss Annette is 66 years old today, and still America's Pineapple Princess.

DR EDISAURUS - please remind Mr Sherman that his Annette songs still get a lot of CD play around these here parts.

Well, DR JRand, they've been advertising the position all month and haven't received any likely applications.  I just posted it to a couple of the listservs that I frequent.

Anybody here want to become a Grants Specialist at Dayton Metro Library?

30 work days...

I always thought it was kind of daring and exciting to walk down 42nd St.  And when I was much younger, very profitable.
