The movie of, "White Christmas' (excuse me, "Irving Berlin's "White Christmas") was pretty lame compared to "Irving Berlin's Holiday Inn."  Yes, the movie of "White Christmas" has its moments, but you have to wade through an awful lot of mediocrity.  Rosemary Clooney is a delight as is Mary Wickes and Dean Jagger.  George Chakiris is good, too.  But one watches it for the occasional moments of joy.

I have just the opposite reaction. Though the music is great in HOLIDAY INN, I find the love triangle tedious in the extreme. I find WHITE CHRISTMAS pure pleasure from beginning to end, even those numbers Charles Pogue seems to disdain so frequently in these here parts.

I watched last night's CSI: NY while I ate lunch. A good episode with lots of lying folks hiding the real truth of what had been going on. I'm glad they've finally gotten to Lindsay's pregnancy confession. She has been showing for the last episode or two.

The Twilight Zone marathon is on - just saw Shatner in his classic pre-Trek performance. Jeez, I remember... that show used to scare the heck outa me - but I couldn't miss it. So unsettling. Still a marvel.

Good Afternoon!

The ride down from Fairfax was relatively uneventful.  After we made a brief stop at his ex-wife's house to say Hi to her and the kids, we then started the drive down to Richmond.  Alas, my brother kept driving around and around in order to avoid some of the traffic on 95.  Of course, after 20 minutes of trying to find a less congested route, we ended up on 95 anyway.  Thankfully, the traffic kept moving, and we still made good time down here.

*And I had a good nap in the car too. :)

Once we arrived at my parents' house, the Big Meal was all ready to be served.  -We just had to wake up my Mom and Dad from their respective naps. My brother, Mike, and his wife were/are here too, along with their kids, John Michael, Alyssa and Emily, so there was a good crowd around the dining room table.  Turkey, ham, sweet potatoes, peas and carrots, cranberry sauce, rice (plain), and arroz gandules rounded out the spread.  For dessert, my father picked up a Cheesecake Factory Pumpkin Cheesecake from CostCo - he's really become "infatuated" with CostCo lately - "Only $14.00!".  -It was pretty tasty, and their store-line actually tastes a bit "lighter" and less-caloric than their in-store pies.  -And after two slices, it better be.  :)

As for Irving Berlin's White Christmas...

I loved it when I saw it in the rehearsal room last year.  Seeing it in a very stripped down state - no sets, no costumes, no make-up, no orchestra (just piano), really brought the show "Home".  Just actors, people telling a story.  They had also tweaked the opening scene for last year's full-scale productions in Detroit and Boston which helped the proceedings out.  And I think there were some more tweaks for this year's Broadway incarnation. For better or for worse.  -But, then again, the past three years were more or less "previews".  ;)

As for the Topic of the Day...

No particular Thanksgiving stands out among my memories right now - but that could just be due to the post-Feast haze.  However, I remember the Thanksgivings from a couple a years ago, where Steve and I would spend the holiday weekend at both of our family's houses.  We would have Thanksgiving brunch/lunch at one house, and then drive South or North to the other house.  Such a good mix and contrast of people and food and traditions.

OH!  And there was one Thanksgiving in Richmond where our friend, John, made his famous Amaretto Yams.  Which, of course, was basically lots of Amaretto with a touch of Yams. ;)

For those DRs who are "Top Chef" fans...

If you'd like to text Thanksgiving greetings to either Spike or Andrew from Season 4, just PM me and I'll send you their numbers.  -They gave them out over the past two live "Twitter" sessions.  ;)

The church where I work did not do the Pilgrim renactment thing this year.

I did not have to wear a rented costume and lead the thing.

I was most Thankful for that.

Well, at least there's still photographic proof from last year's thing, isn't there?

Who's gonna play the guitar?

I guess pop singer Adele (Chasing pavements) is not Sister Smile's Guitar with a career of her own.

(I hope at least one Reader understands the references there)

Ben - Are you still on for the HHW mini-get-together Tuesday night?

A friendly reminder: Even though they can handle groups that just drop by "unannounced", John's Pizza prefers that groups call ahead for a "reservation".  However, I think a group for John's Pizza is 20+ people, so...

However, since most shows are part of the "Tuesdays at 7:00" program, getting a table for a group should hopefully be easier after 7:30pm.

I was just about to ask you when we're going to eat pumpkin pie!

While jhvw was in dreamland we went for a walk along Shoal Creek to see the Chert cliffs.
