Which of course leads me to my endlessly repeated anecdote of the night Sergio Mendes & Brasil '77, who first recorded the song in the US, did it live on the Tonight Show and Bonnie Bowden went completely up on the lyric. Since it's a stream of consciousness thing, with an endlessly repeating melody, she just stood there humming for a minute or two as Gracinha continued to sing the lyric, looking a bit exasperated. It was hilarious.

Actually they do. At least in the original version.

And since "4'33" - I. Tacet" was part of iTunes Free Discovery Download series, I'm wondering if it was meant as an April Fool's joke. Prolly.

*And I do recommend checking out the Free Downloads on iTunes each week (each Tuesday). There's usually one "pop" download, one "Discovery Download", and one video - in addition to the free movie trailers and TV-show clips. It's been an easy way to check out some artists and types of music I might have not otherwise considered. -And the "Discovery Download" even features a "vocal" and "classical" track every now and then.

When I went to the first meeting of my class in the Lehman Engel BMI Workshop, and we were picking composer-lyricist teams for our first assignment, I was disappointed to learn that Jerry Colker was a lyricist, not a composer. Because he was hot. Spelled H. O. T. Not just hot, but !!‼ HOT !!‼

Well, Jerry never came back to Workshop after that first day.

He got the part of Lewis in Pippin where Michael Rupert was playing Pippin, and went thence to 3 Guys and thence to Whatever Happened to Jerry Colker? Status

So, now that we know that Jerry Colker is alive and well and living in Los Angeles...

And I think I've told this story before, but...

When Virginia Commonwealth University decided to mount a production of Three Guys Naked from the Waist Down, the director and I tried to contact Michael Rupert and Jerry Colker since we wanted to see if they were interested in writing some updates to the script and score - mainly for the "American Dream" sequence which was basically a musical time-travel sequence. We got a hold of Michael, but no one could find Jerry Colker. No one. We even got a hold of his original agent at William-Morris, and he had no idea where he was.
