I am leaving work soon, so I will give the answer to my
Trivia Question:The song "Po Po Po" is from the Cuban zarauela
Cecilia Valdés by Gonzalo Roig. If you follow the amazon link, the second selection is a snippet of "Po Po Po".
You see, back when we played these things called phonograph records, there was a publicaiton called the Swann Catalog, which was a joy to thumb through. I belonged to a record club that offered a 40% discount on everything in the catalog for a few years before it morphed into a typical "Buy One Blockbuster a Month" club. That's where I got all the foreign cast albums of
My Fair Lady.
But the category was called "Operettas, Musicals, and Zarzuelas". The word intrigued me, and I looked about in the public library and found one, count'em, one (1) recording of a zarzuela, the above-mentioned
Cecilia Valdés, which was actually performed at the Metropolitan Opera in 1965.
So now you know more than you want to about
Cecilia Valdés and zarzuelas. The rest can be wikied.
