UGH!  Richard just declared, "I am NOT going to stand in line at 6am!"  Guess I better look at that virtual line thingy again...

OK, we're both registered for the virtual line and I think I understand the routine.

DR Ginny - Be sure to set up an account for yourself, for your DH Richard, and maybe even one for your DS Rob. -That is if you have his email address.

...Hopefully, the storm will pass and the rain will stop - or least slow down - by 8:00 for tonight's performance of Twelfth Night.

Richard and I are both registered.  We do have a couple of solid alternates to TWELFTH NIGHT, so I think that's as far as we'll go.  The weather that just developed is making me nervous.

One of our alternatives is the Roundabout show that's right down the street from us - The Tin Pan Alley Rag.  Do you know anything about it?

Tin Pan Alley Rag is sort of like a revue.  It's the music of Scott Joplin and Irving Berlin. Be sure to grab one of the discount flyers from someone on the street or in your hotel lobby.  They just started their run and are still in previews.  Here's the website for the show:

And as for the weather... It appears the storm has passed.

They are predicting the same pattern to be in effect over the next few days, so...

At the very least, we'll have a nice dinner at Fred and Skip's.  :)

WHOA!

Little Mermaid To Close

Wow! That's a shock! I would have not been surprised if it had been MARY POPPINS that was closing. This is completely unexpected.

Yes, I'm back on-line. I was just about to upload my review when I got that they're doing more tinkering with the site, so I came here to hang around a bit to see if it would go back up any time soon.

I don't want to wait until late tonight to do this as I'll be tired, and if I run into problems, I don't want to be too exhausted to deal with them.

Yep, quite unexpected.  I mean, their numbers - like almost all shows right now - could be better, but  I figured it would at least try to stay on through the Holiday season.  However, I guess all the speculation over just how much their weekly running costs are can now be better... well.. speculated.

*The "funny" thing is that there was a rumor that Disney would go ahead and close Mary Poppins - especially since the tour is up and running, and then move The Little Mermaid over to the New Amsterdam. It actually would have been nice to see that show on and in a bigger stage - it's way too cramped at the Lunt-Fontanne - but there's no way they could have filled those seats down on 42nd Street.

So, having eaten a late lunch and with a 7pm curtain, Richard and I are just having some drinks and peanuts in our room before heading over to the Shubert.  Something tells me we'll be hungry afterwards - suggestions?

And as for Mary Poppins...

The Chicago production had major technical issue this past Saturday. After holding the curtain for 45 minutes, they ended up canceling that evening's performance out of safety concerns.  They had had some technical issues earlier in their run, but they even went on one night with the stage crew manually moving the set - which does not include the Banks' house moving up and down (it just moves upstage and downstage for the tour).

Of course, they offered refunds to the audience members as well as a chance to exchange their tickets for another upcoming performance.  However, since they end their run in Chicago in two weeks, well, the seat selection is limited.

Bar Centrale on 46th if you want to hob-nob.  There's also bk's stand-by, Joe Allen, also over on 46th.  Brooklyn Diner on 43rd.  Junior's.  Angus McIndoe.  Etc., etc., etc.

If it's not too crowded and you don't mind paying the hotel mark-up, the bar/restaurant on the 8th floor lobby of the Marriott Marquis is a nice place.  Great views of Times Square.

Good news for DR Matthew (and those DRs who also had this one on their wishlist)--LEADER OF THE PACK is scheduled to be released on CD on 8/11/2009.

And speaking of John McGlinn, a compilation of his EMI recordings has been released today, THE VERY BEST OF BROADWAY.

Cool!  Thanks for sharing!

Thanks, Jose!  We'll probably end up just picking up something at the Cranberry and bringing in back here, but you never know!

And I'd forgotten about the Brooklyn Diner!

You're welcome, DR Ginny. -Doesn't Cranberry close up by then?  In any case...

Have a wonderful time at Blithe Spirit, and a great post-show meal wherever you end up.

All hell broke loose this morning: the check from a local bank that I deposited on Friday hasn't cleared yet, thanks to the asses at Sovereign Bank, my health insurance payment, which I mailed on Friday and usually takes a week to land was paid yesterday. Timing isclearly everything.  The bastards that run the bank  charged me $350 for ten overdrafts this morning and I am $640 in the hole.

So, I may be doing nothing the remainder of the week but sitting at my desk finishing up as much work as I can to dig myself of the hole that will only get larger. I am neither amused nor happy about the goddam idiots who run this bank. The fact that $660 was sitting in my account and they've taken most of it for themselves really irritates me. A lot.

Color me both pissed and very unhappy today.

Now I have to go do my free job: the McGlinnventory.

Elmore, that is terrible!  Did you talk to the branch manager?  Did you call corperate headquarters?  The squeeky wheel.............

The talk was frustrating, but they are going to deposit $99 into my account in the next couple of days. The manager claims that's as high as they can go. I consider it legalized theft and when I'm dictator there will be blood in the streets.
