First of all, the play was Dear Liar and the actress was Mrs. Patrick Campbell.

I'm up.  I got up at eight but went back to bed and slept till nine-thirty.  It's a little gray out, but I'm jogging no matter what, even if it's just a mile.

I see that actress Nan Martin has died.

She was in one of the INVISIBLE MAN sequels, I think....very pretty Universal starlet....unless I am thinking of the wrong girl.

At work today....oh well.

JRand, you are thinking of Nan Grey.

MBarnum,

I meant to tell you the other day that I used to know Richard Devon.

He and my friend, Michael Ansara, were good friends.  In fact, as I recall, we were both ushers over 30 years ago at Michael's wedding to his wife, Beverly.

I would be very pleased to have Drunk Duane become a character in a play.

Vixmom, Drunk Duane lives in Tacoma.

I wonder if I have ever met, Drunk Duane.  I used to know nothing but drunks, back in my drinking days; but that was sixteen years ago.  Do we have any idea how old Drunk Duane might be?  Can you tell if he sounds old or young?

Drunk Duane sounds about 35.

He spelled it "Dwain" in a text message that he sent to Mary.

Here is the lyric - I'll put on asterisk (*) where the lyric begins in the clip above, so you can follow along:

LAUREN:

My mother drinks
Sometimes she hits
So I lay low
Until she quits
I hide
I disappear
Inside
I hardly hear
The screaming and the yelling and the madness
And the pain
Her pain
My pain

But through it all
I've got two friends
I've got two people who will listen
Two people who will care
Two people who, no matter what,
Will always be there
To lighten all my sorrow
To take away my fears
We're a team that can't be beaten
We're the Three Musketeers
Three friends

BRYNN:

My whole life
My sister's always been the best
Daddy's fav'rite girl - mommy's special pet
She's the golden child - nothing she can't get
And it's very dark in her shadow
And it feels like somehow you're cursed
And it hurts to know, in your parents' eyes
That you're never gonna be first

But through it all
I've got two friends
I've got two people who accept me
Who help me see what's right
Who'll always be there by my side
To fight the good fight
Who keep me safe from nightmares
Who help me feel at ease
And each victory seems sweeter
When they're all won by these
Three friends.

MARY ANN:

My father split
When I was five
We were told he'd be back
But he never did arrive
I was the oldest
With a brother and a sister
As for mom, well, the truth is
If you blinked you would have missed her
She was working at three jobs so we'd survive
So, to my sister and my brother
I was father, I was mother
Cook and maid and any other
Things to be
And so somehow you get the knack of
Doing work there is no lack of
No surprise I just lost track of
I lost track of me

But who helped me find myself
*Put it all behind myself
When things were at their bleakest
And my self esteem was weakest
Who was there

(Lauren and Brynn join her under the chorus)

Through it all
I have two friends
I've got two people I can turn to
Who always understand
And if I feel unsteady
Then they're there with a hand
The ones who give me comfort
Who shelter me from harm
There's no problem we can't conquer
If we're joined arm in arm
Three friends

ALL THREE:

Through it all
We are three friends
Three friends who always can be trusted
To cherish and support
To be there as a backstop if
We should come up short
And if the road is bumpy
If somehow we should slip
Well, I know I won't be falling
'Cause we're joined at the hip
Three friends
Three friends
Three friends.

Great lyrics.  I of course am very moved by Lauren's words-they bring back such great memories. ;)

That news story I posted yesterday about the dog and his late master, who I hope is in Hell, prompted some very cathartic dreams last night.  I've been up since 2:45.

I knew not to read the story.

Good idea! :)

DR Elmore: put some cheap porn on the VCR (maybe you know someone who has some  ;) ) and elevate a speaker as close as you can get it to the ceiling. Then crank up the audio. Maybe he'll get the message. If nor, at least he'll be impressed by your stamina!

Quote from Jrand59 yesterday:
Quote
From the producers of THE MIRACLE WORKER revival......

http://www.theatermania.com/broadway/news/03-2010/miracle-worker-producer-issues-statement-about-bro_25532.html

I think that THEATERMANIA managing editor, Dan Bacalzo, should check his facts before he runs an article.  Helen Keller was not born blind and deaf.  She became bind and deaf at the age of two, following an unknown illness.

Is the theater manager young?  It is the only way I can imagine someone not knowing this bit of information.

Matt H I’m very pleased you finally appreciated Sharon Gless’s character and hope you continue to do so.   I haven’t seen the episode yet, it must be extra special for you to react as you did.

Yes, Jose, and I encountered each other like ships passing in the nights.  He was on his way to do four more hours of auditions, poor lad.  I am back home in Georgetown and must now take a nap.  I'm too old for all this kind of excitement.

Just spent an hour on the phone with muse Margaret - we ended up going over every single thing save for hyphens, commas, and stuff like that - some stuff we did, but she made me put back at least five things I'd changed because she felt it hurt the flow and my style of writing - which is why I love muse Margaret.  We made decisions on every note, and then I either did them or put it back the way it wuz.

Nan Martin was a guest star on lots of TV shows including many programs produced by Quinn Martin. Was she any relation?

I did get that second LAW & ORDER episode watched. It guest starred Debra Winger who did a fine job as the principal of an inner city problem school. Good drama.

Then I watched this week's PSYCH while I ate lunch. I liked this week's show better than last week's, but it's still so silly and beyond the bounds of sanity.

Then I started YOJIMBO and got about 65 minutes into it before phone calls began interrupting my concentration. I'll go back down and conclude it later.

The Blu-ray looks very, very good with only mediocre black levels as the only real weakness that I've spotted so far.

There is a commentary and lots of bonus features, too (typical Criterion bonuses that are interesting so you look forward to seeing them). I suspect I'll be on this a good portion of the evening.

If I have any time tonight, I'll probably watch this week's episode of SPARTACUS before coming upstairs to write up the work project of the day.

OK, that was a quick afternoon surf, but I'm eager to get downstairs so I can start back with YOJIMBO so I can hopefully finish this evening with some time to spare.
