Here's a question for our experts: My singer was asking if we should do Getting Married Today in her act - I'm not keen on it, really.  But - has anyone done this song doing BOTH parts of it themselves, i.e. the fast part AND the "Today is for Amy - Bless This House" part?  That idea came to me yesterday and I think it could be very funny.

bk - I've seen that done in a cabaret a few times. And wasn't it essentially done that way in Putting It Together - at least the Julie Andrews version.

That's why I'm asking - if it's been done that way a lot I REALLY don't want her to do it.  I don't have Putting it Together on CD - does anyone and can you check?

My CD is at home, but there's a 30-second clip of only Julie singing the first part HERE.

And I just found that someone named Brad Hampton has also recorded a solo version.

I MD'd the west coast premiere of PUTTING IT TOGETHER many years ago and, yes, both parts are sung by the "older" woman.  That entire Act II score is an exercise in carpal tunnel syndrome, I'll tell you.  I could barely move after each performance, and it was a LOOOONNNG run.

And there's also the demo of Mr. Sondheim himself singing both parts. ;)

We got weekly "revisions" from Mr. Sondheim, usually in his own hand, during our rehearsal period.  That was kind of fun.

I saw both versions of the show - but really didn't like either production much so I don't remember anything about it.  I found the CD here and it does seem to be a solo version, so they must have played that for laughs.

Good morning, all!

I just had a shock: James Stovall, one of the cast of FINIAN'S RAINBOW, has died. He was a wonderful man, and his death saddens me. I'm grateful to Sara Jean Ford for letting me know.

Larry, I'm so sorry to hear about this.  My condolences. :'(

Back from today's cardiac rehab session, where I actually watched Fox News because several stories caught my interest - the DoD censorship case, the Delta plane making an emergency landing at JFK, and the deaths of the owner of Segway and Gloria Stewart.

I've been checking all the sites today and I finally found this:

He was such a nice, gentle soul, and he seemed always in a good mood and happy to be working. It's very sad

I'm back from Chicago.

Had a great time.

Sold a lot of books and made some new friends.  (I sat next to Ruth Buzzi, and she is a hoot.)

Film is being developed. Will post some photos later.

Hello, everyone.

It's been a crazy morning. There was a tap on my front door early today; it was the plumber telling me that he would be turning the water off. He was kind enough to give me 15 minutes to take a quick shower and stow some drinking water. Then my accountant kept calling about the numbers I gave him. They were not at all like the numbers I usually give him. Well, no; I was a gypsy last year.

Did I mention that it's hot today?? Oy!

TOD:

I spent 5 weeks in Europe during my college years. I did a lot of business travel at one time, but most trips were relatively short, thankfully. As most business travelers say, it's not as glamorous as it seems. I spent a couple weeks in England on one business trip. That was definitely one of the better ones!

TOD:  Well, like Ginny, we have taken our kids on several rather lengthy car adventures, including two this year alone.  But the longest period *I* was away from home was between my Junior and Senior year of high school, when I spent 3 months in Europe.  My sister was running a Service Club at an Army base in Germany, and I used her home as my "anchor."  I had a Eurrail pass and spent the summer going all over the continent.  It was very scary for me at the beginning, but I'm sure it helped me mature--at least a little.  :)

Cannot jog in this heat.  So, maybe after dinner I'll do a late-night jog of some sort.

Incidentally, I just opened my "One Eyed Jacks" CD and the upper hinge on the jewel case was broken.  The CD's are fine.  You know I don't care that it's broken!!  However, just wanted to let people know that things do happen.
