I don't think there is any exotic dish I would not try. I have never been a picky eater. Even as a child I ate everything and anything.

One of my favorite things to do is try different and varied ethnic dishes...as most know I love Indian food. My Iraqi friends have treated me to many delicious dishes. My trip to Japan 20 years ago was full of tasty treats (much of it I still don't know what it was).

There are only a few items I am not crazy about...I will eat it, but I won't go out of my way for it....Lima Beans....raw onions...

Wasabi is something that I avoid...same with Horseradish...those two I do dislike. Also, if food is overly salty...that is not so good...I want to taste the food, not the salt.

BK, I suggest going to Indian buffet...taking a little of everything, then going back for more of what you like. Butter Chicken you would like.

The green stuff was likely Saag...my favorite...especially with Lamb or chicken or just chunks of cheese. And buffets are usually not very spicy, although you can add spice if you like.

I will say that eating tandoori tikka is very good for the diet - very low-cal - one chicken breast, a little rice and I didn't use any sauce.

No wonder it was little bland.  The sauce is what makes it.  Same with marsala.  These aren't necessarily spicy.

Here's a story I wrote recently about a Pachamanca, which is a Peruvian thanksgiving feast that's cooked by burying the foods (ribs, chicken, lamb, potatoes, sweet potatoes and more) in an underground oven. Exotic, yet sooooo comforting. Best sweet potatoes I've ever eaten. They needed no salt or butter. The chicken and ribs practically fell off the bone.

If I posted this before, forgive me. I was in awe of the whole process.

Good afternoon!

I'm so proud of myself-I had my car inspected (pretty sad, huh?).   In the DC area we have to have an emissions inspection every two years and a safety inspection every year (at least in Virginia).  I was very happy that my car passed both.

DR ArnoldMBrockman mentioned that David Friedman worked with Nancy LaMott. He did talk about her and said that he was releasing a couple of DVDs of her concerts (for the first time).

THE AMAZING RACE SPOILERS from last night

*
*
*
*

A lot of these teams are really growing on me. I was really sad with the bottom 2 teams last night. I really liked them both. I felt bad that the team that got eliminated could not sled. They were actually really growing on me. But to me there downfall was they were at the airport for 3 hours and never checked on another flight. Big mistake!  The one team i really don't like are the tattooed couple. They were good at sledding. But they are lacking in skills.  The father/son are really growing on me. They are so sweet. I like them.  I know they probably won't go far because the father has so many physical limitations. But they seem so read and nice.  I also enjoy the home shoppers. And the doctors. The father/daughter team is doing much better than i thought.  I hope the volleyball girls can bounce back. I am not crazy about the two dating couples. The one that needed their expresspass is going downhill fast.  And the one with the girl who could not go down  on the sled ... well that guy is getting on my nevers. He goes from yelling to being the sweetest supportive guy ever. It is very confusing!    Good show last night though. And great seeing that ice hotel. Very cool.

;D ;D  LOL! LOL! " I hope the volleyball girls can bounce back."  LOL!  LOL!  ;D ;D

So I read last night that there is yet to be another incarnation of WISEGUYS/GOLD/AWAY WE GO/BOUNCE/ROAD SHOW, directed by John Doyle yet!  Maybe this will be the production that kills this one off once and for all...

Talk about flogging a dead horse!

YIKES!  We've just had some excitement here - the crew that mows our lawn ran over the sign we had in our yard promoting the county park levy and a piece of the metal support hit our living room picture window.  Fortunately, it's a double pane and only the outside glass was broken.  The boss will be over later to look at it.

Ginny, I am glad that no one was hurt.

Thanks, DR TCB!  Richard just gathered up what was left of the sign - just a handful of shredded vinyl.

TOD:

As odd as it may seem to some, I don't do much "adventurous" eating -- which means I don't indulge in eating things that don't appeal to my sense of what would be "tasty".

I've eaten many Chinese dishes of which I knew nothing...and lots of Indian dishes with only the assurance that my dinner partners had tastes for excellent foods, and they've never let me down.  I've enjoyed many such meals and have never been put off when I learned what I was eating...including goat meat.

The most adventurous I've been in terms of eating what did NOT seem appetizing was a plate of sushi (that did not include California roll).

And while it was not as disgusting as I feared, it also had no taste other than the various hot/spicy sauces in which the raw fish was dipped.

The taste of the raw fish was unremarkable and the sauces were not sufficient to entice me back to a sushi meal.

T.O.D.

I used to be a far more adventurous eater than I am now.  I can usually find something tempting on just about any menu, and I have found that most waitstaff are more than willing to steer you towards something that you enjoy.

These days, I tend to stick to more standard fare.

Not a very adventurous eater, though Betsy's tendency to "experiment" means I get to be, anyway.  :)  Last night she made homemade butternut squash ravioli with brown butter.  Yummy.

Prepping my last three reviews of this cycle--WINTER'S BONE, LEONARD COHEN SONGS FROM THE ROAD, and RED DRAGON.  How's that for a triple feature?  :)
