Re: Maurice Sendak
My daughter loved "Where The Wild Things Are" when she was a young lass.

I was not familiar with this until we had children.  Bryan was fine with it but it scared me. ;D

PS: I have not seen any of these stepsiblings since I moved out on my own in 1983, except once at my father's funeral in 2001.

That's good you didn't get stuck with them the rest of your life.

My step-sister, Mary, had a black cat named Sheba back around '80/81. Don't know where she got the name from and she actually never had anything to do with the cat, that I ever noticed... And I am quite certain she had no knowledge of COME BACK LITTLE SHEBA. She wasn't terribly bright...but, none of my step-siblings were.

It was a nice cat but it was never allowed to come indoors, and it had kittens constantly.* I could never convince my father and stepmother to get the poor thing fixed or to let it inside.

*Yes, this was all during my 3 years of living in "white trash" conditions as a teenager in White City, Oregon... still, it was considerably better then the alternative of living with my mother and stepfather.

*Now that I think of it, my stepmother's kids all seemed to reproduce on a regular basis, as well.
Were the step-sibs allowed in the house or did they have to drop their litters on the sidewalks as well?

;D

I had a long talk with the Man from Philadelphia. I think we may bite the bullet and add the oaf to the online acknowledgements for the reecording. I think it's the only way to establish peace, much as I'd rather kick his ass and say to him, you contributed nothing to this recording!

Sometimes it is best. Sigh.

You may want to speak with an attorney first. If there's any acknowledgment, even if it's not warranted, hemight uses it as a toe in the door to cause more trouble.

But I could be wrong.

I should delete my previous post. ;)

Jane: I had an almost-vegan, almost-vegetarian dinner tonight. Grilled portobello mushrooms, grilled pattypan squash and grilled celery. (There was leftover anchovy butter in the fridge and it went on the celery.)

Did you like it?  I'm not sure I would.

I'm off.  TAO has our monthly board of directors meeting tonight and I must be there.

Until later!

Had a long e-mail from Juliana about this act we're trying to do, and I may walk away, depending on her response to my response.  I can no longer work with people who continually get in their own way, over think, and use the word "no" which I will not allow anywhere near me in the creation of an act.  Insecure people who don't have a clear picture always fret and think that a strong creator/director is not a positive thing - they get very threatened.  I explain at the outset that it's not about me - it's never going to be about me - it's about the performer and my job is to find the essence of the performer and how to present that essence in the best possible way.  And you either collaborate and trust or you don't.  The End.  With this one, I don't really care either way.

Did they go crooked again when you were pregnant?

No, they started shifting as soon as I stopped wearing my retainers.  The crookedness was hereditary, so capping was really the only way to remedy it.

I finished the final two Wallander movies, which I'll write about in the notes, but I'll just say they were both superb and thankfully returned to the earlier style of the show - so those two episodes, ten and eleven, were anomalies directed by a hack, who allowed sloppy writing, terrible washed out visuals, quick cutting and all that "now" crap - the worrisome thing is that from what I've read, that style very much apes the Branagh Wallander series - if that's the case, that will be going on the trade pile very quickly.  The final episode was fantastic and VERY moving.  Wallander has had a wonderful dog all season, name Jussi - a lovable dog, and Jussi has a good role in the final episode.  Interestingly, those two terrible episodes directed by the hack, are the only two episodes of series two in which Jussi does not appear.  So, if anyone decides to pop for series one and two, my advice when watching series two is to simply skip the two bad episodes, although there is some information in them about a budding romance between two regulars that's important, but they're just so bad that I would skip them.

I think I'll now go meet up with Pogue and Julieanne at the Cat and the Fiddle - she leaves tomorrow, so this would be the only time to see her - Pogue stays on until Saturday morning.

DId I like what? The meal? The anchovy butter? The grilled celery? I liked all of it. Some great flavors coming together. And I got to use up a few leftovers from Saturday. (I'll be eating those all week, I think.)

I wish I had known to wear retainers when I was pregnant.  My teeth shifted more on the bottom thank goodness.  It didn't happen until the 2nd pregnancy & I even asked my dentist, at the time, about it.  I don't think he was a very good dentist.

Watching episode five of "Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy." The cast remains the real draw here, but I am enjoying it more as it moves along.

And mine:

"And look at you, sir! You're out in public with mascara and eye liner and lipstick, but why are you wearing that blue shirt and those trousers? Wouldn't a nice sun dress work better with your makeup?"

I would love to have said that to the superintendant

No Longer in the Preferred Demographic Department:  I got a call today offering me $200 to partake in a survey since we have a Chevy Cobalt.  She had to ask qualifying questions, and we went through a huge litany of items before she asked me my age.  As soon as I told her, I knew the die was cast.  "We have no openings in your category, thank you for your time."  Click.

I have their number on my Caller ID.  I think I'll call tomorrow and say, "Hi, we'd like to keep you on the phone for 20 minutes and then reject you because of your age."  :)
