TOD:

My parents met at a bowling alley in 1963. I think it was this one:

Not long after meeting each other I came along. Only problem was that both my mom and my dad were married at the time...to other people. Whew...and they talk about what comes of dancing!

That is proper bowling alley signage.  Very nice!

I myself have always enjoyed bowling, but have never done it regularly as it is rather expensive. I do wonder if that is what made it a less desirable pastime over the years.

When I worked at Bi-Mart we had, for a short time, a bowling league. It was a lot of fun.

And of course as a little kid my parents were on a bowling league, so the sounds of a bowling alley are always very nostolgic for me.

And bowling is one of the few sports (live or on TV) that I can actually watch and stay interested in.

The OTHER funniest thing about the Blythe Danner commercial is her title as "Award Winning Actress," as if that made her opinion so much more important.

We had another bowling alley in Medford, DR ChasSmith, which was even more 1950s retro looking, but I could not find a photo of it. It still existed when last I visited down there a few years back, but I don't know if Roxyanne Lanes is still around or not.

There was a murder right outside the big bowling lane in Portland a few weeks ago.  I don't think it's been solved yet.

We survived our subway ride and walk to the HERRINGBONE venue.  We're way early so we're having beers at a jernt around the corner on Delancey St.

I must be off to the same HERRINGBONE venue.

Y'all have a wonderful time at Herringbone.

Sounds like you're close enough to walk up to Katz's later for some pastrami!   :)

DR Laura, that is wonderful about getting to (finally) see Donny Osmond!

And of course I feel it my duty to introduce you to the Bollywood version of Donny Osmond. His name is Ayub Khan and you can see a short trailer from one of his best 1990s films (sadly, this clipe doesn't show the talking donkey): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dYdt07niS3I

Do let me know if he appeals to you as much as Donny O. does! (really, between the two of them they have more teeth then exists on the whole planet).

I'm looking at the Yellow Pages and it lists Roxy Ann Lanes on S. Pacific Hwy.

A story about Herringbone on Playbill.com

http://www.playbill.com/news/article/166130-Herringbone-With-Tony-Winner-BD-Wong-Plays-NYC-May-21-22-Performances-Will-Be-Recorded

The Herringbone Kickstarter fund drive has raised $28,924 (so far) of its $35,000 goal...there are only 28 hours left!

HERRINGBONE is fully funded!  They met the goal not too long ago!!  Congrats!! ;D

Why not "Gwyneth Paltrow's Mother"?  :)

They've really cheesed you off with this commercial, haven't they?

Many folks know Blythe Danner as Blythe Danner.

I'm fairly certain Danner was probably offered a nice sum of money for her participation in the commercial.  As much as it is being aired, she should be doing nicely on the royalties, as well.

Why begrudge her?

Maybe she'd like to distance herself from mediocrity. Well, given the commercial, maybe not.

Great photo of the bowling alley, MBarnum. Reminds me of one of my favorite Ida Lupino movies, Roadhouse, in which Richard Widmark owns a bowling alley, nightclub and community center place. Ida smokes and plays piano, and she leaves her unfiltered cigarette butts on the piano, leaving burn marks in her wake. "One for My Baby" was one of her songs. Then Widmark goes crazy and the fun begins.

I certainly don't begrudge Blythe Danner anything, I just think the commercial is stupid.
