Replacing Rob Ashford is always a good idea. Replacing him with a flavor of the moment won't help - this completely boring new thing of taking all these recent movies and making them into musicals is certainly the dreariest trend ever and hopefully will stop when enough of them bomb.

Went to pick up my yellow Parisian cake that I ordered two days ago - it wasn't there - they didn't have the order. And they didn't care. I bought the chocolate version and a strawberry shortcake and I will let them know they have lost me as a customer at that bakery forever. If I want a Parisian cake I will simply go to the LA bakery that invented the cake - on 3rd Street near La Cienega.

The Times' Patrick Healy says about Finding Neverland director:

Mr. Ashford, in a telephone interview on Friday, said he would not have been available to continue with the musical because of scheduling conflicts, including directing two operas in early 2014. “The original hope was to bring the show to London this fall, but that timing didn’t work out,” Mr. Ashford said. “Harvey didn’t want to wait, and I don’t blame him. He wants to charge forward.”

The we went Burger King for lunch - they have a chicken/apple/cranberry salad wrap that was delicious

Each of us had one of those and we split a large order of sweet potato fries - we finished up with soft serve vanilla ice cream cones

The DH decided to buy the guitar from the Craig's List seller. It is a small classical acoustic guitar, a Yamaha, practically brand-new.

In other news, the beautiful blue skies and sun we had early this morning have morphed into grey, threatening clouds. An omen, perhaps??

Thanks for the heads up on that, TCB. I don't have that Warner Archives DVD, but I see I have WHEN THE BOYS MEET THE GIRLS on a TCM-derived copy of my own. Have to dig it out and watch it, since I don't think I ever did.

I wish to HELL somebody would reissue THE LOVED ONE, since used copies start at about the fifty dollar mark on Amazon. I wonder why in the HELL I never thought of buying that back when it was available? HELL, it was only issued in 2006, and by Warner Bros. That should be in the Archive.

I didn't dislike VENICE; I disliked a lot of it, but not as much as I loathed FAR FROM HEAVEN. My problem with VENICE, which is based on OTHELLO was the book and lyrics. I felt the music, which my colleague Curtis arranged and did an amazing, flabbergasting job of it, and choreography by my friend Chase Brock were wonderful, as was everything about the production side of the show.

I had a problem with the rap lyrics, which were often unintelligible or verging on the "icon be bygone" school of rhyme, and the book which updated Shakespeare to some political state/city with internal and external warring factions that either bored me stiff or confused me greatly. I felt I was in an inner city STAR WARS without the humor. One thing about Shakespeare: he knew the value of comedy relief, and this musical could have used some.

Now i want to see the new film of MUCH ADO ABOUT NOTHING.
