I was very sad to learn today that Bollywood back-ground dancer, Pamela, passed away. She was living in Conneticut...which I did not even know. Fellow Bollywood back-ground dancer, Edwina, posted about it on Facebook today.

Pamela is one of the dancers in HHW's favorite vintage Bollywood night club dance number. Jaan Pechan Ho from GUMNAAM (1965)

I don't know which gal is Pamela, however. Laxmi Chhaya is the main dancer. Edwina was not in the number, but her brother Terence played one of the band members and Robert, Babu, Shinde, Tressa, William and Marie are all in their dancing.

GUMNAAM is the epitome of Bollywood theft: The main title sounds like Mancini's "Charade" and the plot is "And Then There Were None." And the big number? WEST SIDE STORY on drugs. My favorite is the beach number "Can a girl with those piano legs love a chubby little man like me?"

Elan - I've never heard the Hebrew MY FAIR LADY, but am very familiar wit the Hebrew HELLO DOLLY, KING AND I and OLIVER. The latter two recordings star Rivka Raz, whom I believe was the Israeli production's FAIR LADY.

As for A CONSPIRACY OF PAPER by David Liss, it truly is one of my favorites. Mr Liss is not only adept at fiction, he knows so much about Jewish history and also about the evolution of the financial markets. All of this is woven together very well. A very impressive work, IMHO.

He lives in San Antonio, I believe.

So I had to say good bye to my nice maple shade tree today. The split in the tree I may have mentioned meant that it could have easily fallen on the power wires going into my house or across the street where it would have blocked traffic or something worse. They couldn't save it....well, they could have but it would have been really awful looking. So, after trying to get my tree guy for a week, he called and after looking at it, he had his crew here in an hour. I am poorer, but relieved it's gone, as I was afraid of the harm it could have caused

While I was watching them cut down the tree I realized that my garage door won't go down all the way without banging and going back up. It isn't the sensor it's something else. So after a number of calls, I found a repair man who can come to the house in the morning. Whew!
