THE RANDY VICAR AND THE FRUIT COMPOTE

Well, you've read the notes, you've commiserated with my ongoing sore throat and bug problems, and now it is time for you to post until the cows come home - which will be directly after they finish the fruit compote or, at the very least, the fruit compost.

Amusement rides are not for me. "Space Mountain" put me off for life. Hated every second. I'm more the gentle journey type - Pirates or the Haunted mansion type things.  I don't even like carousels. (But it's my favourite R & H)

I actually enjoyed Disneyland's Space Mountain but I also enjoy more sedate rides such as Pirates and Haunted Mansion.  I've never been in a roller coaster that goes upside down.  I don't know why but I haven't.  Universal Studios' Jurrasic Park ride was pretty fun.  Those are probably the only two real amusement parks that I've been to.  Even though the Seattle Center has amusement park rides, I don't really consider it an amusement park.

Good morning, all!  Yesterday, during a GOLDEN APPLE break, I watched Jacques Pepin deal with an apple compote.  He was not at all randy about anything.  Today is a sojourn at the lovely (and quite air-conditioned) Tams-Witmark; first up, my barber, who's been vacationing in Sicily whilst I've been recuperating.  After Tams-Witmark, I have a few parcels to drop off at the post office before I fill out the form to have my mail held from Wed through Friday.  All in all, a day crammed with incident.

Hello all,

Trust you are well and happy.

TOTD:  I have been on "Space Mountain" - did it 5 times in a row - wa hoo!!!!  Went to Six Flags Magic Mountain and almost churled when I was taken on a rollercoaster with a "hidden" loop!!!!  I think I'm more a merry-go-round man now .. ha ha!

Well, dear readers, I regrettably will be absent from HHW for a little while.  The reason for this is outlined below .....

As you will most likely not be aware, I had both lungs transplanted in October, 2002 (as a result of life long chronic asthma).  A procedure which has given me a much greater quality of life and allowed me to do things I had not been able to before.

Over the last 3 years things have been generally very good and I have considered myself to be extremely fortunate to have been given this ‘second chance’.

Regrettably, since December, 2004 I have had periods of shortness of breath as a result of my body rejecting the new lungs.  Today I have been “hit with a brick” and told that there is irreversible rejection/damage to the organs.  As a result of this, I am faced with a situation – it appears the hospital specialists want to re-list me for a 2nd transplant operation.  I will need to have both lungs replaced again!

Apart from dealing with the shock of this news, I will now need to focus on plans for the immediate and short term future.  As you can probably understand, there is a lot to consider.  My mind is a bit fogged with it all at the moment, however I am sure things will become a bit clearer in time.

I hope I can just carry on as normal – work, play and live just as I am at the moment.

I am sure my dear friend Tomovoz will keep you updatged until I get back on HHW (and be sure, I WILL be back!)

Thank you, thank you, thank you for being such wonderful people, for being there and for allowing me to share this with you.

Biggest hugs and lots of love,

Derek

Last night I couldn’t my laptop was running sluggish and I couldn’t post.  It took about 20 minutes for emails to go.

Instead of posting we watched The Vicar of Dibley, a BBC series.  It is absolutely HYSTERICAL!

I have a very busy day but will, if my connection works, return later.

Adore roller coasters and the scarier, the better. Couldn't get enough of Space Mountain at Disney World or the Matterhorn at Disneyland. Also love the Tower of Terror at Disney/MGM, and adored it so much that we rode it four times in one morning and afternoon.

Busch Gardens at Tampa has some amazing roller coasters that twist you six ways from Sunday, and we rode those numerous times while we were there.

But I can enjoy something sedate like the Peter Pan ride at Disney World/Disneyland just as much as the thrill rides. I really admire the ingenuity of all of them.

Paramount does do a good job with its DVDs, but it needs to revisit and remaster BREAKFAST AT TIFFANY'S. It's grainy, dirty, too dark, and in need of a serious restoration.

I was reading the VARIETY review this morning of ABC's upcoming EMPiRE miniseries (not as bad as some advance word would suggest according to the reviewer), but even before it starts, I know the actors won't be able to touch that sterling line-up of talent who did I, CLAUDIUS.

EMPIRE deals with the life of Octavius after Julius Caesar's murder up until he becomes emperor. I believe HBO's more ambitious series ROME deals with a different time in ancient Roman history, but I'm not clear about which date it will begin with.
