Sharon Tate was in a movie about venereal disease???

 :o :o :o

LOL....VD was what Susann's novel was called in all interoffice memoradum at Bernard Geis when it was being published...and all the invoices when it was shipped out.  :P

DDD and DVDPlanet both list the upcoming VD DVD as a 2-disk special edition with LOTS of extras.  Fingers crossed....I shall pre-order later this month!  ;D

It was NOT a nuthouse.  ::)

Maria, what musical are you going to see? Where???

Little Egypt. At the Matrix. I know nothing about it. Nice cast: Sara Rue, French Stewart, Misty Cotton, Jenny O'Hara...

Have jogged, then fell asleep on the couch like so much fish the second I turned on a DVD.  Now I'm watching said DVD - the new 2 disc SE of The Dirty Dozen, which comes out in a few weeks.

Oh, my gosh! just listening to the PBS SOUTH PACIFIC!! I can't imagine it ever sounding better than this!!! Having the whole orchestra play the original arrangements reminds me how great it really is - no wonder these great old musicals have found better homes in the world's greatest opera houses - where they can be mounted with the musical forces they deserve!!! Wow - Reba! Was there ever a better Nellie!?!?!?!

PennyO - You might be interested in knowing that the Reprise Monday night series is doing an evening of Rodgers & Hammerstein next Monday (May 8th) at the Freud Playhouse.

I liked Reba's Nellie, though she seemed a bit old......

Didn't like the Mary.....she was glued to her book during ALL the dialog scenes....

Watching A PLACE IN THE SUN....was Monty really nearly as short as Elizabeth?  In scenes next her her he only seems a couple of inches taller and she is not much over 5 feet...is she?

DR PennyO - glad you enjoyed SP on PBS!  I looked for the CD on my Barnes & Noble splurge Friday, but they didn't have it yet.

We've just lined up one of our family traditions - going out for a nice meal on the Sunday before Mother's Day.  Next Sunday,   Richard, Rob, and I will take our mothers, plus my aunt (who's also a mother), to the Manchester Inn here in town for mid-afternoon dinner.  Restaurants are too busy on Mother's Day, so we started this habit shortly after Rob was born.

Mea culpa....on favorite musical movie moment day....I wrote that Nelson Riddle composed the HARLOW moment....

Riddle did score the Carol Lynley HaRLOW (soundtrack released on Warner Bros)...but the HARLOW musical moment I talked about was scored by Neal Hefti....soundtrack released on Columbia and CD on DRG.

I'm sure his assets are enormous.  Have you heard him sing?  He's fantastic!

Well, I'm in from a lovely day.  Dylan arrived later than planned, took care of becoming a Noo Yawker by getting a new 646 area code cell phone, got a Metro card and hit the pavement looking for work.  He's coming back in on Tuesday night to follow a lead on a DVD store employee (he's a film studies major interviewing next week for the film school) and hit a few more possibilities.  I guess I'll be parenting, mentoring, or diving him crazy this summer.

I'm in a big minority, but I'm tired of hearing Brian Stokes Mitchell, a good pop singer, crash and burn as a legit baritone, from DO RE MI to KISS ME KATE to MAN OF LA MANCHA to SOUTH PACIFIC.  I can't believe others don't miss what I don't hear from him.  I loved him in RAGTIME and JELLy'S LAST JAM, and I'm thrilled I missed him as Sweeney Todd.

I spent the afternoon while Dylan worked Broadway watching a new DVD of Mozart's LE NOZZE DI FIGARO, and Patrizia Ciofi may be the next Teresa Stratas; what a wonderful actress.  Her "Deh vieni non tardar" in Act Four was amazing.

Reba has really proven that she has a wide range in singing.... I believe she was also in Annie Get your Gun.

Most actresses who play Nellie are way too old, and once I'd love to see a fantastic charismatic star-powered younger person do it, if such a person exists.  Years ago, I was supping with Miss Susan Egan at Joe Allen after one of our vocal sessions.   She was probably twenty-six at the time, and I said that she'd be great as Nellie and wouldn't it be great to try to do it - at that moment, Mr. Brian Stokes Mitchell walked by our table and said hello, and we both said to him that we were just talking about South Pacific and that he'd be perfect as Emile.  Isn't that funny?

Interesting....there are a couple of scenes when they are standing side by side (and you can see their feet, or Liz moves into the shot with him) and they are very close in height.  Whoever was in charge of that - if there's a 10" height difference was GREAT!!!   ;D

Liz is (or at least was) 5'4" when she made A PLACE IN THE SUN.
