And the word of the day is: SEJUNCT!
DR Jose, I sent Greg Jarrett an email about house seats for DEATH TAKES A HOLIDAY; if I don't hear from him, I'll try Ms Luker or Don Stephenson. Oh, my friend Simon Jones is in it, too!
DR Jose, I hope you got to see the Tony rehearsals. I am so jealous!
Re: your question from yesterday about most slides being steep.
...
I need to send Rodney an email: he's most likely in Cooperstown, where he's playing Frank Butler in ANNIE GET YOUR GUN with Deborah Voigt as Annie, which seems frightening, but I kow she's been making directions into cabaret performance and I know that Rodney is quite fond of her.
Yes, I too, had six empty messages from DR Michael Shayne on Facebook this morning, so I too believe he's been hacked. I got it on Twitter, to which I never tweet. There are 27 posts from someone claiming to be me, all badly spelled, all grammatical disasters, and I'm wondering if Lady Macbeth is my hacker.
It's not that I bash the Tony Awards bash, it's that I will not be home to watch the broadcast.
But isn't the Tony's taped delayed to the west coast? won't it difficult to talk about who the winners are? Spoilers
"Michael Shayne" also sent me a bunch of nonsense wall posts. I think what's going on is you FB regulars are opening links on *your* wall posts which allow those apps to access your friend lists, and then the whole thing just ripples out. Perhaps this started with the posts from "Danise."
Jose - Has the Tony rehearsal started already? (had you been able to go)
DR JOSE - I posted a couple of your ANNIE pics on Facebook.....and I am going to post your TONY SET pic, too!
How exciting.
I am now preparing for my CAMELOT auditions....well....I am prepared, just getting things together....
My topic for today then is......what is your favorite song from CAMELOT - and have you ever seen a production that ran less than ALMOST 3 hours?

WAIT?!??! HOLD THE PHONE!?!?!? You're on Twitter, DR elmore?!?!?
::)
And in other Tony Awards related-news...
I want to send out special ~~~~~ENDURANCE VIBES~~~~~ to Jill Paice. She had Tony rehearsals on Thursday and Friday (she's in the Company segment), plus rehearsals for Death Takes A Holiday, then first preview Friday night, two shows yesterday, then Tony Awards dress rehearsal this morning till 1:00pm, then a matinee at 2:00, then the actual Tony Awards ceremony tonight.
WHEW!!!!
So, I watched TRUE GRIT last night...and I did enjoy it.
Comparing it to the John Wayne original:
Certainly the Coens Brothers have taken a darker, less humorous approach to the material.
I really liked the look of the picture, and Matt Damon was much better as the Texas Ranger than Glen Campbell.
The girl was terrific. If she keeps her head on straight, she could be a big star some day.
John Wayne or Jeff Bridges?
Wayne was a bit more fun, but it's really a toss-up. Both of them were excellent.
As an overall film, this new version is probably slightly better than the original, but Wayne's movie was good, too, and is a minor classic. That makes me wonder:
Why bother remaking this story at all?

Perhaps because it's more faithful to the novel, which the Coen Brothers like immensely?
DR JOSE - I posted a couple of your ANNIE pics on Facebook.....and I am going to post your TONY SET pic, too!i once saw a summer stock production with only 10 cast members. It was a quick one -- and it didn't make much sense.

Every song, and I wish "The Persuasion" had been recorded along with some dance music. When John McGlinn finished the SHOW BOAT recording in 1988, we talked about a complete CAMELOT, with Thomas Hampson as Lancelot (EMI crossover demands), Jeremy Irons as Arthur, and Sarah Brightman or Dreary Te Kanawa as Guinevere; we also talked about a complete recording of Kern's ROBERTA, with Regine Crespin as Madame Roberta, the crazy Kathleen Battle as Stephanie ("Smoke Gets In Your Eyes"), and - I think - Jason Graae in the Bob Hope role.
I saw in 1962 the national company with Arthur Treacher as Pellinore and Louis Hayward as Arthur and (occasionally) Kathryn Grayson as Guinevere. The night I saw it, Ms Grayson was out and Jan Moody was in.I gather from Miles Kreuger thar she missed many performances. It was a gorgeous spectacular bore and I swear it lasted 30 hours!
Because Harris is the host, because it plays in theaters around the country next weekend and free commercials are free commercials. And in other Tony Awards related-news...

You're Welcome, DR JRand!
As for Camelot... Well... I guess I could go back through the HHW archives.... ;)
I would ask everyone, "What was your favorite moment of any Tony's broadcast?"
I’ve been a little surprised at some of the attitudes from certain dear readers in the last couple of years, awards bash-wise. The attitude seems to be, “I don’t care who wins or loses, so I’m not attending the haineshisway.com awards bash.” That seems more than a little silly to me – our bashes are not about who wins or loses whatever awards we’re watching – it’s about posting and having a partay and having fun – it’s camaraderie, and it used to be the best time. So, I would ask those sporting the attitude to come on by anyway and have a good time. That’s what we’re supposed to be about.
Today: finish laundry, mop and vacuum, and put away things that have accumulated since the middle of May.
DR Jose, I sent Greg Jarrett an email about house seats for DEATH TAKES A HOLIDAY; if I don't hear from him, I'll try Ms Luker or Don Stephenson. Oh, my friend Simon Jones is in it, too!

Sometimes closer to four hours.
I'm not sure my post came across the way I meant it to.
She called last night and I asked her if she told her daddy about the slide we went on. So she must have turned to him cause I hear, "daddy ... slide ... auntie". That was her rendition of the day!:)
Btw it is so sweet to hear her finally say auntie. She just started saying it on Friday. For almost a year she's been calling me nana. She made up that name herself. And then all of a sudden on Friday she saw me coming up her lawn. And she screamed out "auntie". Since everyone was oohing and aahing over it now she can't stop saying it.
"Michael Shayne" also sent me a bunch of nonsense wall posts. I think what's going on is you FB regulars are opening links on *your* wall posts which allow those apps to access your friend lists, and then the whole thing just ripples out. Perhaps this started with the posts from "Danise."

I don't think there'll be many surprises tonight, but just put spoiler warnings if you're going to name something or someone. I don't really care one way or the other, however.

You had to get a boat for the basement?Dry vibes for the vixfamily!
I saw a touring production of CAMELOT about ten or fifteen years ago, with Noel Harrison as Arthur. I was extremely surprised how good Harrison was in the role. I guess the only acting I had seen him do before, was on THE GIRL FROM U.N.C.L.E. Still the production was staged very strangely. Center stage was this very large raked circular platform. On both stage left and stage right they had these semi-castle walls, that had a covered balcony running along them. What I remember most of the whole three hours was "If Ever I Would Leave You." The scene started and Guenevere was onstage (probably sitting on that damn platform) by herself and the orchesttra started the intro of the song, and you could hear the buzz in the audience of, "Where is Lancelot?" The music got to Lancelot's first note, and sure enough, his voice came in right on cue. For the first half of the song the whole audience was playing Where's Waldo? trying to find Lancelot. Finally he was spotted about half way upstage on that covered balcony. There was never any connection between Lance and Guenevere. Very weird staging!

I'd gotten some empty Facebook messages from DR Michael S., also. :-\
I hope that it's all better.
I got a call from my sister this morning (we don't stay mad long). She called to say that a.) I should have been at the game, and b.) It was lucky that I wasn't at the game.
The should have been there part was because my great-nephew got three touchdowns during the game. Actually four, but one got called back. The shouldn't have been there part was that at the end of the game, the gang member brother of one of my great-nephews teammates was angry that our team lost and came on the field and opened fire with a gun at the players on the field. He shot over everyone's heads, either accidently or on purpose, but I guess it scared the sh** out of everyone.

Is the fool now in jail?
And...
I just found out that the Creative Arts Tony Awards have started now, BUT they will also be giving some out during the commercial breaks. -And then showing clips of the acceptance speeches during the broadcast. There's no streaming of those awards this year.
STUPID!

Didn't PBS televise these in the past?
I would ask everyone, "What was your favorite moment of any Tony's broadcast?"
Without a doubt, Brent Barrett (WSMA) and Michael Jeeter doing "We'll Take A Glass Together."

You notice how I made this in to two posts instead of one (Clever these Americans).
Are we close?

Lenticular Packaging are those plastic(?) cards(?) that have ridges, and when you shift the angle they "move" the image or cause another one to show up.

Welcome Back, DR Cillaliz!
-I keep meaning to ask you if your office and/or your house is in danger of being affected by the flood waters?
Don't think so for the office, they say the downtown area of Sioux City will be ok, and I'm on the 4th Floor, so it should be fine. The worst thing that would happen is I couldn't get there, but I don't expect that
My house is in a hilly area, so there's no danger here either. Thanks for asking
Don't even like the play so much.

Why do people love this play so much? I remember it when it was written, and it seemed pretty much off the mark to me.

It caught thezeitgeist of the plague and its effects on New York better than any other play written at the time, from the dilemma of what was causing the disease to the politics of the Koch and Regan failures and the futility of everyone with friends dying to save them or do much to help.

I liked AS IS better.
Just don't like the play.

Maybe it's time to read it again?
Well. that doesn't exactly tell me what it's about
It must be a very large puppet.
What is War Horse about?

Downloaded the Book of Mormon OCR. It came with the booklet . Cool.
My friend Theodore S. Chapin!
Ted Chapin is my friend, too :)
She hasn't practiced this much. More than Brooke Shields, just not enough
Angela Lansbury has less of a figure than a shape.
Looking forward to the show, but it already sounds as if there are some dreadful things in it.
TONY SPOILER
Best Featured Actress in a Musical - Nikki M. James Book of Mormon
END OF SPOILER
Angela Lansbury has less of a figure than a shape.
Not every old broad gets a plastic body like Cher; I don't think there's anthing human grafted onto Cher's body.

They certainly featured Andrew; they must think he's getting the best performer award. I hope he does.
Mormon Must have A Great Book And A Great Cast because from The OCR and The Tony's Tonight the score is Mediocre At Best

What is that about, JRand?
Pretentious jerks.
Pretentious jerks.
I think it's great that they're able to laugh at themselves and their show and all it's problems.
And knowing people in the show, those two "pretentious jerks" have been amazingly supportive of their cast, and humbled by their talent, efforts and energy.

Now, that I will agree with you. But, again... Even as much as we don't like it, The Tonys are a commercial for Broadway. -And a way for people who can't get to NYC to get a glimpse of those shows they may not be able to see in NYC.

What is Whoopi wearing on her head?
Cilla, for some reason I had the impression that both your house and office were safe. I don't know why, exactly, but I'm very glad to hear your confirmation of that.
I hope I will be forgiven for leaving now. I have been enjoying the party, but 3:30 comes very early. And I need to take a second pill.
I will now be off, take a shower, get dressed, figure something out to bring to the pot-luck and participate in an election.
Have a good day, all!
Yes DR JOSE - and you know I respect the thoughts and opinions of you and DR ELMORE greatly!
Congrats DR GEORGE
Damn did I miss the horse?
JRand, you missed the horse

I love Larry Kramer! He's been a hero of mne for years. I once told him that in the Drama Book Shop. He's fierce but he's a kind man. As opposed to Arthur Laurents, who was fierce and ugly.

Oh, I thought I said that a while back. Yes, I'm fine and will be. They have slowed the releases, don't quite know why unless it's to give some time to complete the new levees.

DR Jeanne, the Tonys start at 8pm on CBS on the West Coast.
I'm going to be watching the Tony Awards in about one hour.
I will now be off, take a shower, get dressed, figure something out to bring to the pot-luck and participate in an election.
Have a good day, all!
I'm home and have officially been elected as one of Theater Artists Olympia's five officers-at-large!

Perhaps you did and that's why I had that impression. But I haven't been able to keep up with all the posts lately. In any case, glad to hear it.
And a very belated acknowledgement to CBS and the producers of The Tony Awards for the BRAVENESS of the Opening Number!
Congrats DR GEORGE
So, this show is going to last, what, two-and-a-half hours?
I, too, love tap dancing. That must have been the Anything Goes number.
Congrats George
THE WAR HORSE is an import from the National Theatre of Great Britain.
I loves me some tap dancing!
What a fun number!

Two hours and ten minutes without commercials. ;)

Isn't LA CAGE still running? Did it close?
Tonyawards.com has some live clips, including one from WAR HORSE. Yes, the horses are amazing.
We will achieve at least five hundred postings, though, and that's nothing to sneeze at, although, that said, I just sneezed.
Is Helen related to the odd Jim Stenborg?
I am enjoying this far more than the Oscars.

She gotta knife! Look out!
David Wechter just got a reality show gig that takes him to NY for eight MONTHS!
Twenty minutes to the Tony Awards, which I hear are on this evening.
In totally unrelated news, I am going to have about fifty flowers open tonight on my night-blooming datura.
He is SO sweet. He is totally obsessed with ceiling fans. Funniest thing you've ever seen
Thirteen minutes to the Tony Awards. There's a rumor going around that they'll be televised this year.

I am eating carrots for dinner. I had two moon pies earlier - someone left me a box of them last night. They were on my doorstep.
DR JRand60, Mark Rylance is just very strange. If you can find his last Tony Award for BOEING GOEING, you'kll find it similar!
DR elmore - I'm one of the ones that believes that the Mormon boys cancelled each other out.
OMG the local news just cut off the Tonys!
Never mind....they are back
Okay I'm here and I guess the show is over. Wasn't it any good?
And Neil puts the button on it!
And that final number was written by Tony Winner Lin-Manuel Miranda!!!!
And they opened right before my eyes -- all of them -- in about five minutes.
According to the news here are the three phases to the flooding.
Phase 1 preparation
Phase 2 wait and see
Phase 3 is unfortunately unknown
Gabe is so very handsome. I'm glad you have a child to borrow, Cillaliz.

TONY SEMI-SPOILER
I'm glad that Norbert Leo Butz got his Thank You into his sister. She was killed in a hate crime during their previews in Seattle, and the trial started last week.
I Hate To Be A Spoil-Sport But I Am Tired And Need To Go To Sleep
West Coasters- Enjoy !
I love it...."And don't be surprised if the completion date is sooner or even later than estimated"
It's just so funny to listen to the news. How do you make a story out of I don't know, you don't know and we're all guessing.
DR Jennifer, they weren't awarded during the commercials, they were awarded earlier and just shown during commercials

Actually, some of them were awarded during the longer commercial breaks. Only three of them were presented before the broadcast.
Other than that, I'm enjoying the show. And the people for whom the opening number was intended are not watching the show.
And finally, there is a GREAT disparity between the cheering, wooing applause and ovations we're HEARING and between the mild applause that we're SEEING at the same time - which means the reaction is not only enhanced, it's positively canned - I don't remember exactly when they began the practice of adding shouting, applause, and laughs from the can, but it's very prevalent this evening.
Other than that, Mrs. Lincoln, how was the play?
That may not be "right", but having been at The Beacon while they taped a show, I can tell you I would have been mighty pissed to have a camera man's ass in front of my face... -Which is what happens at The Met now during their HD Broadcasts.

It didn't bother me as a viewer.
Okay, I'll be the lone voice of dissent and say I did not like the opening number - the entire number, including the audience stuff. Too winky-winky for me and the choreography was Ashford-like - don't know if it's him or not.
Then Ellen Barkin's really annoying and endless preaching - say thank you get the HELL off.
Then Brotherhood of Man, yet more proof that Rob Ashford is as bad as it gets in terms of actually understanding the POINT of a number. His choreography always reminds me of the 11th grade gym class exercises. Awful.

Don't the cheering etc belong to the fans in the balcony? One of the reasons I hate the Tony shows ever since they moved to the Radio City when Rosie O'Donnell took over. I liked it when they were at one of the regular Broadway theaters.

DR Jennifer - Alas, chocolate is not good for your throat. Sadly, it can cause acid reflux.
The funny thing about seeing Bobby Morse prior to Radcliffe is just how unique Morse was and is. Radcliffe is just like a million other fellows, but one who lucked out into the movie role of a lifetime.

DR Michael S - Since the show moved to The Beacon, there were no tickets offered for public sale this year.
I have to say I hate when they have so much filler and then they have to rush the good stuff.
I'm glad that Chris Rock was able to just say his jokes and that they didn't cut off Best Musical or NPH's funny end speech.
I was afraid they would have to stop at 11pm.
DR Jennifer - Alas, chocolate is not good for your throat. Sadly, it can cause acid reflux.
DR Michael S - The seating capacity of The Beacon hovers around 2800 depending upon seating configurations.
The seating capacity at The Gershwin - the largest Broadway house - is around 1900, but is only 1809 for Wicked.
The seating capacity at Radio City: around 6000.
The Beacon is larger than a Broadway theatre, but MUCH smaller than The Beacon.

Even hot chocolate? It felt good at the time. I needed to constantly have hot drinks. And i'm not a big coffee or tea drinker.

I thought they were doing it. Isn't the Beacon larger than a normal Broadway house?
DR jose doesn't matter now (re: hot chocolate) that was a month ago. It only matters to my hips! :)

Your last post on rthe other page has an error; one of your Beacons should be Radio City!

AT LAST!!! A real, old-fashioned, by God Broadway musical number - The Scottsboro Boys. Simple, choreography that has a point, wonderfully performed, and a real, REAL Broadway composer - John Kander. Thrilling. I guess I'll have to get the CD now.

Would it play in a Mac computer? I don't have a tv with a dvd player.
Did they have a different key change at the kickline than in the original?

Sort of. They cut some sections of the song for the broadcast.
I had no idea that Tom Bosley and Jerry Bock had died - I actually worked with about five of the people shown in that montage.
Don't forget Scottsboro.
Thanks, Jose.
I wonder why Daniel Radcliffe is presenting two awards.
Frances McDormand is dressed rather casually.
:D
