DH Richard and I have officially dropped out of the competition for Thursday night TWELFTH NIGHT tickets.  We're just not up to worrying about the weather and such.  I think we'll try for THE TIN PAN ALLEY RAG that's playing just a few doors down from us.

Film at 11.

Enjoy your time off, DR Cillaliz!

Thanks Ginny!  I'm caught up for the first time since I opened my office.  Lots to do, but nothing that can't wait until I get away for awhile.  Yeah!

Here is a new show out at Universal - Florida I guess.  I am hoping NO ONE involved has Broadway aspirations.  They obviously never saw the original CREATURE FROM THE BLACK LAGOON.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JU42USygGL4

Actually it is in Hollywood only

Thank god,

What were they smoking when they thought this up!!

Please remind me to skip this show next time I go to Universal Studios.

Actually, I suspect that CREATURE FROM THE BLACK LAGOON could turn out pretty well, since it does have a theatre-oriented pedigree.

This is a link to the website of its composer Fred Barton

http://www.fredbarton.com/latestnews.html

Fred [Barton] is co-composer-lyricist-librettist for Universal's THE CREATURE FROM THE BLACK LAGOON, playing at the Universal Studios Park in Los Angeles. After 20 years, Fred joins forces again with co-lyricist, co-librettist, and director Gerard Alessandrini. Jonathan Tolins is the scriptwriter, Lynne Taylor-Corbett is the choreographer, and the production is co-produced by Marc Routh and Broadway Attractions.

Oh my

Who would have thought they were involved.

Well if they could kill Tarzan...

Hmmm, I just watched the CREATURE FROM THE BLACK LAGOON YouTube.  Thnaks for linking it, Jrand.  Is this something Universal released or something a fan put up on YouTube?  I didn't get any sense of what's sure to be the spectacle from that clip, and I really had trouble hearing the words, so i wonder how it was shot.

It looks like someone shot from the audience. Definitely not pro shot

Very sorry to hear about Karl Malden.

I interviewed him for my first book.  Had lunch at Frascatti's on Sunset.

He was a fine actor and a very nice man.

It is a shame that he didn't want to appear in public during the last number of years. He had some kind of eye problems that he didn't want people to see how what his appearance was

Oh no!

Beloved British TV actress Mollie Sugden has died, aged 86.

The TV star passed away in hospital in Surrey, England on Wednesday after a long running illness, according to her agent.

Her twin sons Robin and Simon were by her bedside.

Sugden shot to fame in Brit sitcom Are You Being Served? in 1972 and appeared in a string of other television shows, including The Liver Birds and long-running soap opera Coronation Street

Druxy,   Now that you've been there awhile...How is Austin working out?  Settling in?  Culture shock?  Advantages?  Disadvantages?  Things you miss about LA?

Texas is definitely different from Los Angeles.  More laid back.  People are certainly friendlier.

On the other hand, I do miss my friends.  Even though I didn't see some of them all that often, they were there and, if we wanted, we could get together for lunch or whatever.  I would have loved to have gone to BK's staged reading a couple of weeks ago.

I AM making some connections here; meeting new people involved in local theater and filmmaking.  There seems to be some interest in several places, so hopefully, something will come of that.

I gave a talk at the Austin Network Mixer last week, a place where entertainment industry people meet twice a month.  Sold quite a few books there.

But, what I really miss most is Canter's.  Austin does not have a good deli.  I long for a good corned beef sandwich on Jewish rye.

 :'(

How was it for you when you moved?

We have moved so many times & each experience has been different.  One thing I always do now is join the local Newcomers Club.  I always find a book discussion group.    It can be exhausting meeting new people all the time when you don't have comfortable friends to fall back on.  It takes time. I figure it can take up to two years to really feel comfortable with new people, it depends how lucky you are.

Considering how long we have lived here we should have a busier social life.  I think we have turned into homebodies, at least at night.

I am back from Starr. It went very well. The COO and the President were very happy about the outcome (those being people from my place of employment). The people at Starr also seemed suitably impressed.

And they keep on coming. (going)

Veteran actor Jan Rubes has died, aged 89.

Rubes passed away on Tuesday. His cause of death was unknown as WENN went to press.

Born in Czechoslovakia, the star found fame in the 1940s as an opera singer and won first prize at the Geneva International Music Festival in 1948.

He furthered his career by moving to Canada before branching out into acting.

His most noted role was opposite Harrison Ford in 1985 film Witness,

Such a busy day, and not in a good way.  So many people.  I hope they all had wonderful lives.  At least none of them were young.  DR Druxy thanks for the tidbit on Carl Malden.

I'm glad he didn't want to appear in public. Some stars have common sense and realize when it's time to step away from the spotlight. Far too many people don't have the sense to quietly retire. He was 97 fricking years old. He didn't need to be making public appearances.

He was also in a very good thriller, DEAD OF WINTER.

I almost made it three major purchases.  If things had worked out better schedule-wise, I would have been showing up on Fred and Skip's door in time for dinner tomorrow night!  But, oh well, it was not to be.

That's our loss, DR TCB! It would be great to have you visit!

I saw his name listed in the credits while I was watching it one night, and it took me almost the entire episode to figure out which one he was.
