Well, you've read the notes, the notes were reckoned with, and now it is time for you to post until the cows come home - they, too, are fighting the good fight and must be reckoned with come hell or high or even low water.
-
And the word of the day is: MOLIMINOUS!
-
As Der Brucer noted, Brunswick Stew was, traditionally, made with squirrel.
I've not had "traditional", though. I suspect, in some parts of Appalachia, that road kill has ended up in many a batch of stew.
Possums, squirrel, field mice, deer...skunks...and other assorted animals that strayed.
I have a batch cooking in my 6-quart crockpot right now. It is just getting to the point where all the ingredients are "merging" in both flavor and aroma. And I'm going to let it slow-cook another three hours while I attempt to "sleep."
-
I sincerely hope the rest of this week moves along smartly....with no moliminous crises or events to stress me out.

On one of the big theater websites, they have reader blogs for NYMF shows. The following blog reviewing the Brain was fun enough to share:
Aliens trying to take over Earth, will-benders, audience participation, and "feel-o-rama" (where audience members can feel what the characters feel) -- it's all part of The Brain From Planet X!
Fred and Joyce Bunson (Rob Evan and Amy Bodnar) are a typical nuclear family living in the San Fernando Valley in the '50s. He is a determined inventor, and she is a typical, doting housewife. Into this conflict-free environment, a UFO drops in, containing the ruler of Planet X, a large brain (Barry Pearl), and his minions, Zubrick (Cason Murphy), who gets a *tad* annoyed at humans' "stupidity," and Yoni (Alet Taylor), who greatly enjoys the male human physical anatomy. They are supposedly evolved humans, who rely solely on intelligence, and see no need for feelings, love, or family. They plan to take over the planet, and eraticate humans of these weak entities. Fred leads the team to prevent this alien take over, but will the aliens get a hold of Joyce to foil Fred's plan?
The show is appropriately campy, silly, and fun. There is an added level of audience interaction, both through the use of the aforementioned "feel-o-rama," and because one "lucky" audience member gets to have his brain tapped (which is of course accompanied by a company-wide tap dance). I was one of the audience members in consideration, but The Brain dubbed me "too smart." Takes one to know one, I guess. (This has also provided me with a wonderful lead-in to a story: since The Brain is played by Barry Pearl, who played "Doody" in the Grease movie, I've been telling my friends: "Doody says I'm too smart!)
The show makes absolutely no attempt to take itself seriously, which would not at all be appropriate in this wacky spoof. The title song is spoofy (don't care if it's not a word) and appropriate, complete with a perfect final pose each time it is reprised. The act one closer, "Now," is truly a powerful moment: each character we have encountered puts their own spin on how things will turn out...it's almost as if they're singing about what happens...in one more day...or something like that. (If there is any doubt, the characters all begin marching as the characters in Les Miz do at the end of the first act). I've decided something I love about these shows is the little references to other musicals. It's very likely that some audience members are theatre fanatics, such as yours truly, and will get and appreciate the jokes, whereas nothing is taken away from those who don't get them.
The show features several standout performances. The first comes from Amy Bodnar as Joyce. She is great at whatever her role entails, whether it's being a typical suburban housewife, changing her ways and lashing out at her husband and daughter, calling her daughter a bitch, or just staring with a blank expression on her face. The latter, especially, is hysterical every time she does it. Another standout is Cason Murphy as Zubrick. He has an amazing stage presence, and truly turns his two songs into the giant production numbers they are supposed to be. He is a true triple-threat, with some great dancing, a great voice, and certainly wonderful comedic acting. Barry Pearl also deserves mention for his turn as The Brain, if nothing else for creating a character when his head is stuck inside a huge brain, and his body inside a black coat. I couldn't help staring at him, and imaging how frustrating it must be to have no use of your arms and hands.
Oh, and there's a great scene involving hot men naked except for golden swimsuits. Enough said.
There's been a trend in theatre these days, of both adapting movies into musicals, and of overdoing satire/ironic mentions. While The Brain From Planet X indulges in both of these practices, it works where this show is concerned. I mean with the title of the show, what do you expect, the next Sweeney Todd? The show is sure to put you in a good mood, and even manages to leave you with a heartfelt message about the importance of family, and of not complaining when things aren't bad. Not to mention an important moral: men should get their own beer. What more could you want from a show entitled The Brain From Planet X?
-
And so to bed.
-
Should men, I wonder, have to peel their own grapes?

I feel like frenzying for about 8 or 9 posts.
Just for fun, of course.
No other reason at all.
;)

It's past my bedtime. And almost time to wake up.

Oh, my, yes.
A frenzy would be fun.

It doesn't seem possible that the past week of postings from NYC is now over...with all the Hainsies/Kimlets returned to their regular lives...and leaving only a handful of New Yorkers to the daily task of dining out, snacking out, pigging out, etc. etc.
For all you with Levain "habits"...and for those who will continue to speak to us of Levains....just remember that they're cookies....they're not "love."
:)

And for those XXL cookies I've seen photos of...oof.
I want three of 'em.

I encourage any and everyone here to watch, tonight at 10 p.m., "Life" on NBC.
-
Tonight I watched "Cavemen," "Carpoolers" and "Reaper" (off DVR).
All cute. All fun.
But I'm not sure I'll watch any of them, other than "Reaper", again.

Congrautlations, JMK, on your eBay win. I know how much FF means to you.

I think that now I shall call it a "night" and say "ciao for now."

I watched "Cavemen" and "Carpoolers." I liked "Carpoolers" but "Cavemen"...not so much. It wasn't horrible but I only laughed a couple of times. :-\

Good morning, all! I definitely see a plumber in my future! The major leak has been stpped but each time I use the kitchen sink, there's still a leak- perhaps several in the pipe - going on and the super hasn't repaired the damage, only stopped the major one. The apartment's still a mess: everything under the sink I didn't toss out is drying and waiing for things to be corrected. I think tomorrow I will go to Tekserve, which is four blocks from Toyland, and buy the new Mac. My Mac Man is back on Monday, so that should make everything work out in scheduling the new setup.
This morning, Toyland and a bit of work on Montgomery & Stone, filing away a few things, and a possible visit from DR Ginny and Richard. Then the NYPL. Tonight, I'm seeing DR Noel's show and attendfing a birthday bash for our choreographic assistant Cassie. I hope there will be a lot of Brain folk attending.
-
We're working our way slowly through The Closer, Season 3, on the DVR.
SPOILER!!
Last night, we enjoyed the episode about Bridezilla. So many laughs!
-
Good morning USA. We just finished watching "Father & Son". It was marginally more exciting than The Cherry Orchard!
There is some beautiful imagery in Russian Films but they are so ponderous! (and I don't like action films)
Goodnight from OZ

Tonight, I'm seeing DR Noel's show.
So are we! See ya there.
-
On Sunday Dear Jose gave me three Levain cookies to share with DP Anthony. Since I got home late (almost 11:30) and Anthony was already asleep I did not open the bag but instead, placed it in the refrigerator. On Monday Anthony has class and doesn't get home until close to 7pm so we have dinner separately (I was also riding the stationary bike when he came home). He ate some dinner while I cleaned up and then I went to bed (around 8:15pm). Yesterday was the first chance we had to open the bag. After dinner we decided to eat the oatmeal raisin wonder. I put it in the microwave for 30 seconds to take off the chill and then I cut it in half so we each got our own large piece. Those cookies are downright dangerous! But, we still have two left. A complete chocolate concoction and a chocolate chip cookie. Perhaps we will partake before we leave to see Noel's show. Yummm, anticipation is half the fun.
-
Good morning David and Tom.
-
And since we're so close,
Welcome to Page 2

Otto Bremer is calling. He's just about finished so I must attend to his needs.

Good morning, DR Ben. Good night, DR Tomovoz.

DR Ben, I laud your willpower. Those cookies would be gone in a flash in our house! :)

And the word of the day is: MOLIMINOUS!

A few posers for you-
In your valued opinion what are the top Five Criterion releases so far?
In your valued opinion what are the Five releases that you would like Criterion to tackle?
Is it possible that some manufacturer will combine in one unit the two Hi-Def systems(HD DVD and Blu-Ray)?
If not-What system would you recommend and Why?

Good morning!
True to the forecast, not nearly as cool this morning. Yes, I still have the central A/C off and the attic fan running with doors and windows open, but it's SLIGHTLY cool air, and that's all. Very disappointing that we're not quite out of the grip of summer yet.

Early this morning I went for a walk, and this is what I saw:

If not-What system would you recommend and Why?
1. So many to choose from, but the ones I have admired the most:
1. SEVEN SAMAURAI
2. THE THIRD MAN
3. PITFALL/WOMAN IN THE DUNES/THE FACE OF ANOTHER
4. THE SCARLET EMPRESS
5. ACE IN THE HOLE
But that's really the tip of the iceburg.
2. I'd love to see Universal give Criterion the rights to the Dietrich/Durbin/West movies that haven't already been released. They did such a fine job with THE SCARLET EMPRESS that I'd love to see what they'd do with SHANGHAI EXPRESS. As for foreign films, it looks like all of the Janus collection will eventually be done by them, so I won't waste any votes on wanting those. We'l eventualy have them.
3. Two manufacturers have already jumped into the combo fray. LG did the first one with ful Blu-ray capability but slightly crippled HD-DVD capability, and Samsung is supposed to release a combo unit that fully embraces both Blu-ray and HD-DVD in November. However, the prices right now are prohibitive. You could buy two separate machines for about $300 less, so those combo machine prices have got to come down before they're viable.
4. Both Blu-ray and HD-DVD offer equal quality (and they both upconvert standard definition DVDs equally wel, an important consideration). If you're only going to get one, you need to then consider the software side of the ledger. What movies would you MOST want in high def, and then see which format supports that particular film.

Well, I think FUNNY FACE is one of the real movie musical masterpieces. (I'd rank it at the VERY top if Astaire were twenty years younger.) I think every number is staged and performed brilliantly, and the three leads are perfection. For a musical of the era, the plot's a bubble on which to hang those deliriously wonderful Gershwin tunes, and the three additions to the score by Edens and Gershe are delightful. And pictorially, I can't think of another movie that can touch it for inventiveness.
As I said last week when I first watched the new DVD, the new transfer is spectacular and puts the old one (which I always thought looked digital and ugly) in the dust bin.

DR SINGDAW-
Trick or Treat?
Is it Halloween already?
-
I got up early enough this corning to read the paper, clean the den, and then watch two CSI: NY episodes. One was a murder using an icicle as a weapon. The other involved a serial killer who was bumping off people who had had a part in causing his innocent brother's arrest and conviction for murder. Good shows and the DVD images often look high definition in quality.

Tonight is a final try for PRIVATE PRACTICE to hook me, and I'll also give DIRTY SEXY MONEY a second look. (I liked the first look very much last week.)

I am looking forward to seeing this 50th Anniversary DVD.
I, too, love this musical. So many wonderful moments, glorious photography. I don't have a problem with Astaire's age difference vis a vis Hepburn. All I have to do is remember "Love in the Afternoon" and what seemed like a love story between Audrey and her great-great-great grandfather (Gary Cooper) and Astaire looks downright young by comparison.
There is one number that seems out of place in the film -- the dance that Astaire does in the courtyard of Hepburn's hotel. It's a "novelty" number. BUT...they're in Paris, for gosh sake, and he's affecting a "bullfighter" character. I've always grimaced during that number.
The rest, though, seems like sheer heaven to me. That fashion montage is incredible. And the non-Gershwin "Bonjour, Paris" is one of the most inspried original musical numbers I've ever seen.
-
My Mickey-Judy box FINALY shipped on Sunday, so with luck it should be here today. I'd love to watch BABES ON BROADWAY, my favorite of their four big musicals together, but it's a bit long and I have other things staring me in the face that must get watched. We'll see how I manage my time this afternoon.

No...

The only thing "stuck" in mine, currently, remains "Poetry Man."
I don't know why. And I still don't mind.

You must be aliens -- pod people! There is no way humanly possible that three Levain cookies could have made it home intact! I kept waiting to read that when you got home and Ant was asleep that you ate them all ... you put them in the frig?!! Then I thought you'd write Ant ate them all while you were on the stationary bike and ... nothing ... then I thought you'd write that you found the bag empty the next morning after you went to bed early ... no, the 3 Levain cookies just stayed in the frig?! ... and then you write that you actually gave Ant half of the oatmeal one ... and that after eating one of them, the other two are still in the bag?!! You and Ant must be from Planet X!!
-
Albeit, really wonderful pod people -- Ben was so nice and charming when I got to meet him in NYC ...

I kept expecting him to tell us that after having missed Anthony he decided Anthony had had his chance and the cookies had become "fair game."
Frankly, three cookies and me = crumbs in a bag half an hour later.
-
LOL, DR Miss Karen...our minds work exactly alike! :)
-
I am tempted to get the MICKEY-JUDY set....grew up on their films on TV and always loved to watch them together.....
Parts of FUNNY FACE are lovely to me.....first saw it on "Frances Farmer Presents" oh so many years ago......and I always laugh at the conclusion of the "Quality Woman" fashion sequence....and Hepburn's fashion montage...."take the picture....take the picture" is breath taking. I don't like the song "'S'wonderful...." but I like the staging.
I don't want to say I don't enjoy FUNNY FACE...and I have been thinking since someone ask me...and I don't know who would have been better than Astaire....
The courtyard dance is a problem for me, too, DR RLP.
But anyway....I have a copy....the original DVD release and it will do fine for me. Audrey's solo at the Beat club is also terrific.
Wait a minute....I guess I do like this movie.

We're talking Levain cookies here -- there would be no crumbs in that bag, trust me. Empty, nadda, nothing, zip, zero, zilch -- cleaned out -- you don't even want to miss a tiny morsel of those things. And I could beat your half hour easily ....

I know there are many people who adore Funny Face (td does, too, and said so when I brought it up here last week) and I only wish I did and I sure have tried over the years since seeing it in the theater back when it first came out. In fact, I'd say it was one of only a literal handful of movies that I just didn't cotton to as a kid.

I think I have seen the hit of the new tv season (no spoilers). It starts tonight on ABC, PUSHING DAISIES.
It's funny, fun, quirky, romantic. And it has mysteries too. It's the best most original pilot i've seen so far. It's on tonight on ABC at 8pm and i believe they are replaying it on friday too.
For those who want to know what the show is about (very general):
It's basically about a guy named ned who touches dead people. If he touches them once, they come back to life and he has one minute without consequence. After the minute he can touch them again and they die. Or if he doesn't do this within one minute someone else dies in their place.
The key is that once a person is brought back to life, ned can never touch them again.
It is so quirky and some romance. ANd a lot of mystery.
For those who want to know how the mystery aspect plays in (no episode spoilers but it may be more than some people want to know) basically ned runs a pie shop. And he works with a partner (chi mcbride) at a sort of side job. they are sort of like private investigators. Ned helps with his "skill".
Kristin Chenoweth stars as a co-worker at the pie shop (and ned's neighbor). I must say i love her. But she was the one cast member who i'm not sure about.

Much to do!
I read Munch to do! :)
-
Gotta scoot now. Much to do!
Ditto! Adios and Happy Wednesday to all you HHWers!

Hi, folks! What a lovely day! Yesterday I toddled over to the Getty Museum, just off the 405, to walk around the garden. So beautiful. I remember one time when Jane was in town, we strolled through the lush flowering wonderland. Well, since that time, the maze at the bottom has really filled in - it is created from hundreds of azaleas, clipped uniformly by some pretty dedicated gardeners! Like something out of Alice in Wonderland!! Quite a lot of the maze was flowering... I'm waitin' for spring!!!!
-
Thanks for the BRAIN review.....now I have to listen to the CD all over again.
-
Why not do THE BRAIN FROM PLANET X as the Fundraiser....with the all-star cast you have assembled?
-
Cason!! Congrats on your having taken Noo Yawk!!! What a wonderful review, honey.
-
DIE-rect from its Noo Yawk engagement!!!
-
Why not do THE BRAIN FROM PLANET X as the Fundraiser....with the all-star cast you have assembled?
Yes! Or even highlights from Brain.
-
I still think that What If?, with a cast of 8 or 10, a band, and a few new songs would be swell.
-
Good Morning!
I'm up, I'm up... And...
-
My sister and i were invited to dinner at the home of one of her best friends last night - they served grilled lamb... the Costco size. For four people. After dinner, the hostess was going to throw out the monster pile of leftover meat - NO!!!! So i packed it up into a plastic bag and brought it home with me. I don't know how indelicate that might have been - but something in me detests waste - and something else in me saw a grand opportunity...
-
Good morning to you, Jose!
-
Sheesh - now I have to go raid the refrigerator, and eat cold grilled lamb with my coffee... Oy.
-
The Film Score Monthly site has been down for at least 2 days. Is it my browser, or is it really down - anyone know?
I know they were talking about adding ads to the site...but that shouldn't necessitate taking it down!!
-
Back soon. or not.
-
From last night's final post... That's what I would never say.
;D
-
DR singdaw - Well, if you could see the Oak Room in the giant cake of The Plaza, well, that would be an awfully good trick... since the Oak Room is at the Algonquin. ;)
-
Good Morning, Penny!
-
DR PennyO, I would have done the same with the leftovers! LOL! Couldn't let all that good food go to waste!
-
Oh... George Grizzard passed away too yesterday...
-
Good plumbing vibes to DR Elmore...and just remember, when the plumber arrives to fix the sink, things don't always go the way they do in those cheap VCR movies you have!

RE: last night's DANCING WITH THE STARS results
*
*
*
I don't know if anyone posted about the show yet (didn't finish reading yesterday's posts). But i was curious what people thought of who was eliminated. IT was actually more interetsing to me to see wayne newton in the B2 (who i thought was bad but who i assumed had a ton of fans).
It was interesting that mark cuban (who was B2 last week) was not in the bottom this week.
I was very sad that jane seymour was absent (her mother died in england). But i was really glad to hear she will stay on.
Anyhow, i actualy figured that either floyd, or albert would probably go. I knew marie osmond was popular. And i knew jennie garth was.
I have no idea how popular floyd is (i guess he must be well-known just not to me).
I feel bad for the 2 models. Since they have zero fan base to go on. And no matter what crap ABC says the fan base is a huge part.
I mean someone with a slightly smaller fanbase (like helio or sabrina) who excels with the judges) can do okay.
But people who are popular have it made in the first rounds. I was not that upset to see the model guy go. But in many ways it was unfair since he was quite decent. I think they need to stop using people who are unknowns. Because it doesn't give them a fair chance. Although i guess if they valued the judges votes for exactly 50% that could help too.
-
Good plumbing vibes to DR Elmore...and just remember, when the plumber arrives to fix the sink, things don't always go the way they do in those cheap VCR movies you have!
;D
And that's why I always get references first!
-
DR singdaw - Well, if you could see the Oak Room in the giant cake of The Plaza, well, that would be an awfully good trick... since the Oak Room is at the Algonquin.
That was DR JRand57! :)
-
JRand, thanks for the alert about Charles B. Griffith's passing. He wrote some of my favorite movies :-\
-
Ohh..
I guess the Plaza and the Algonquin both had/have Oak Rooms. Or did the Oak Room move to the Algonquin after the Plaza closed. Or... ???
My apologies for the correction, DR singdaw. -Would you like a piece of Monkey Cake?
-
That was DR JRand57! :)
Dagnabbit!
Well... My apologies to both DR Jrand and DR singdaw.
See what happens when I get up before Noon? ;)
-
BK, I would guess that the majority of the audience for THE BRAIN FROM PLANET X felt the way that last reviewer felt....and it is nice to see DR Cason being mentioned so many times in pretty much every review! You go, guy!
-
I want Monkey Cake....
I was thinking of the OAK BAR - which is located in the Plaza....or it was when I was there....and Cary Grant was there in NORTH BY NORTHWEST
-
No problem, DR JoseSPiano! And...tough as it is for me, I'll pass this time on the Monkey Cake...trying to atone for some of the excesses from this past weekend! :)
-
bk - I hope something works out in regards to the fundraiser.
*Will you be taking Adam to Musso & Frank?
-
DR JOSE - DR SINGDAW is much nicer looking and younger than I....but we often get confused for each other.....
-
As for FUNNY FACE, I always enjoyed the wonderful gowns that Audrey gets to model...that is what stands out most for me with this film. I like the movie and have the DVD, but I wouldn't consider it one of my top ten musicals. It is a good time pass, however.
-
Charles B. Griffith wrote some of my favorite movies, too, DR MBARNUM, including NOT OF THIS EARTH, IT CONQUERED THE WORLD, and LITTLE SHOP OF HORRORS....and he was the voice of Audrey, Jr. in the latter.
-
I want Monkey Cake....
I was thinking of the OAK BAR - which is located in the Plaza....or it was when I was there....and Cary Grant was there in NORTH BY NORTHWEST
Ah...
Well, after some Googling... The Plaza had the Oak Bar (which is a room), and The Algonquin has the Oak Room (which has a bar).
-
No problem, DR JoseSPiano! And...tough as it is for me, I'll pass this time on the Monkey Cake...trying to atone for some of the excesses from this past weekend! :)
Did I tell you that my gym opened on Monday? ;)
I was actually planning on heading there this morning, but... sleep, I needed more sleep.
-
It happens! ;)
-
And I guess I should get ready for rehearsal now. S - U - P - E - R...
L - a - t - e - r - s . . .

Or, in this case, doesn't happen...

DR JRand57 - I would be proud to be confused for you any time! :)

My family celebrated all sorts of special occasions at the Oak Room. It's in the Plaza, and I hope it'll resurface after the renovation.
A friend of mine grew up at the Algonquin. I'm sure he'll confirm that if the Algonquin's calling anything The Oak Room, it's a recent innovation.
-
Top 5 Criterion releases (for me):
ALL THAT HEAVEN ALLOWS
ATOMIC SUBMARINE
THE BAD SLEEP WELL
THE BLOB
HIGH AND LOW
Special mention:
THE NAKED CITY
PORT OF SHADOWS
I would love to see them re-release CHUSHINGURA. The previous release was so blurry and fuzzy that it is almost unwatchable. It is a beautiful film and deservers a complete make-over.

My co-worker has new speakers attached to his computer and is now playing an EAGLES cd.
Unfortunately, THE EAGLES are one of my very least favorite groups.
I think this is his revenge for some of my Bollywood CDs.
-
And the word of the day is: MOLIMINOUS!
Ricardo, the parking attendant, told his partner Hasim "That tour group from Japan was freaky, man! The SUMO IN LIMO number five was so MOLIMINOUS that he blew out the tires on his own car and the two on either side!"
-
I will now have to drown out HOTEL CALIFORNIA with an Anup Jalota CD.

What we do at the fundraiser isn't the question - it's the funding. So far I've got fifteen really wonderful performers and am ready to book the additional ten or fifteen - but am now going to sit and wait until this is resolved one way or another by noon. I should be working on it, but given what's gone on I'm not confident it will be resolved to my satisfaction. We'll either postpone till January (in which case we eat a little money that we've already spent - and the funders will have to make that up by adding to the budget) or we'll cancel altogether, which would not be wonderful, but if it's necessary, that's what we'll do.

Good morning, HHW!
Just a few minutes before I have to scoot and tend to errands.
CONGRATS to DR RON on his impressive milestone.
My milestone....possibly someone else's millstone. My heart leaps for joy.
Thanks, Jeanne, for the sentiment.

DR JRand57 - I would be proud to be confused for you any time! :)
And versy vicy, I'm sure. ;D
-
DR dB - in some parts, guinea pig is considered quite the delicacy! ;)
How true, how true!
For example, in his section on mashed potatoes in The Cook's Canon: 101 Classic Recipes Everyone Should Know, Raymond Sokolov discusses how Peruvians like their potatoes in soup, or chopped and fried. To quote exactly:
You do not find mashed potatoes in Cuzco next to your Cuy Chactado (split grilled guinea pig, head still attached).
Page 118, if you don't believe me. :D
-
THAT'S how I get a new page started???
::)

EDI,
On the deductability of trips, my understanding has always been that it's not an issue of whether you make a profit, it's whether you were TRYING to. I will, of course, bow to FJL's judgement on all tax matters.
Oh, I am always trying to make a profit, or at least pay myself for the work!
Of course, I also could have been lining up a subject matter for the next documentary I work on and making contacts regarding that.
And I had breakfast with DF John, who talked to me about working on the film he has coming up, so...
He mentioned a post house in Atlanta (in the same building where I edited THE BRAIN) and asked if I would be comfortable editing there. Now that I'm typing this, maybe he was asking whether I would be comfortable and therefore assuming he would be, too? I guess I won't worry about it until he actually gets his investors lined up, which is one reason why he and James Ivory are coming to Atlanta.
-
Dueling music.....
Sorta like a food fight, only with music!
The person left standing is the winna!
-
Or should that be...
The person with the cubicle left standing...
:)

Well I'll be a monkey's uncle!

-
If you would like to invest in the film, you, too can meet him!
Or come to a film gala for only $150 and it also can be a reality! Of course, you'd have to fly to Atlanta but you can have the couch!
Congrats on your massive millstone, Ron!

Talkin' about milestones, someone just had his seven-month anniversary on the forum two days ago!
Congratulations, DR widsnag
(And what kind of freaky monkey's paw is that in the picture? With painted nails, yet!)

Oh monkey, monkey monkey, you broke my heart in two...

Congrats on your massive millstone, Ron!
Ta, Amy!

James Ivory...now THERE's someone I'd love to meet!
Talk about an amazing body of work!

For ask bk day:
Do you remember either of these films that aired on the Z Channel:
"Writer's Block", a black and white short about a writer's nightmarish fantasy as he tries to start the first page of his novel and gets hit by giant typewriter keys, ants crawling out and all over the pages, etc.?
Greg and I both worked on that---in fact, that's where we met!
or "American Signoff", which was the song "Oh beautiful, for spacious skies", featuring a woman dressed in purple ("purple mountains") standing on the wing of a plane?
Just wondering...
-
OK...I'd better grab luch while my producer is out.
-
Why thank you, DR RLP! But I imagine that milestone falls along the lines, as you have already pointed out, of everyone's UN-birthday! :)
-
OK...I'd better grab luch while my producer is out.
And grab some lunch too, while you're at it...
-
I hope luch doesn't mind.
Wonder if DR ELMORE is under water?
Or if DR PENNYO is enjoying her lamb....or if DR MBARNUM has checked into the Hotel California?
-
My mother and my sister went shopping and one of the things they were looking for was a dress for one of my other sisters to wear to the wedding.
I went shopping someplace else....and saw a dress that would be perfect. They weren't FOR SURE going to buy a dress for her....only if they found one....so....I bought the one I found.
She may end up with two.....but it is pretty....and it was on sale (no returns, you know).
-
Why thank you, DR RLP! But I imagine that milestone falls along the lines, as you have already pointed out, of everyone's UN-birthday! :)
Seven months...more than 7,000 posts....I'd call that a HUMONGOUS milestone.

I wonder if Penny-O sings "Little Lamb" as she munches on a cold lamb sammich.

A friend of mine grew up at the Algonquin. I'm sure he'll confirm that if the Algonquin's calling anything The Oak Room, it's a recent innovation.
According to the Algonquin's own website (http://www.algonquinhotel.com/cab_history.html), their Oak Room Cabaret first opened in November of 1939, fell in stature during WW2, and came back to prominance in the 1980's. That gives something like forty years when it wasn't well known - more than a generation.

I've caught up with yesterday and today.
Time to go back to Sunday and Monday.

Again! (Brain reference) -- just in case you missed it when bk posted it, not just because I want you to read the part about Cason, again! ;) .... dang, why couldn't this blogger have been a casting agent and handed Boo-Key a card and told him "Call me. I have a role for you!"
I'm going to modify this post because it is a bit snarky. I got an email from BJ last night on whether a certain agent showed up for a performance of "The Brain." I had given his name and address to both Cason and BJ before they left LA and told them to call him, stop in and see him, or to invite him to the show. To my knowledge, nothing was done by either actor to get any agents or casting personnel in to the show to see them. Now the're back in LA and it's all old news, and essentially any momentum of the good reviews to find representation has been wasted.
I've tried, George, God knows I've tried!
-
Oh, and let's not forget
PLUMBING VIBES TO DR ELMORE!
Thank you! The plumber will be arriving tomorrow between 2 and 4. I love my super but some days he has the charm of a turd in a toilet bowl. He was not happy when I showed up at his door 30 minutes ago and said I needed a plumber. But it's all taken care pf.
-
Good plumbing vibes to DR Elmore...and just remember, when the plumber arrives to fix the sink, things don't always go the way they do in those cheap VCR movies you have!
Obviously spoken by someone who knows the disappointments in trying to pick up an Indian taxi driver on the way to JFK!
-
....but it is pretty....and it was on sale (no returns, you know).
Well, you can always:
[A] save it to wear to your next "always the bridesmaid, never the bride" theme party
save it to wear to bk's fundraiser, when/if it ever happens
[C] donate it to Senator Larry Craig's defense fund.
-
Good plumbing vibes to DR Elmore...and just remember, when the plumber arrives to fix the sink, things don't always go the way they do in those cheap VCR movies you have!
And, DR MBarnum, unlike you, when I say my pipes need a plumber, it's not a euphemism!
-
(walking softly)
(whispering)
...is it me, or is DR Elmore3003 (the magnificent!!!) just a little bit on the snarky side this morning?....
-
...and should I be worried?
-
Good morning, good day, how are you this beautiful day? I was hoping to sleep till eight-thirty or nine, but I'm still on NY time, I think.
Speaking of Macs, you know what I also miss about NY, NY? The mac and cheese that seems to be available at every restaurant there. Here? Not on your tintype.
Just don't order it at the Brooklyn Diner!! Right DR Samantha?

Doesn't fit me......but it will fit someone, I am sure...otherwise it will end up in the costume department of The Putnam County Playhouse.

Or doing research for your documentary on Egg Cream. We discussed it and Greg took photos...you even tried an alcoholic version just to see what it tasted like. More research. I know I can deduct trips for my legal education, I would think you could deduct trips for research for your documentary....this is not legal advice!!

This just in:
Sacco and Vanzetti has been selected to receive the fourteenth John O'Connor Film Award of the American Historical Association.
The 2008 AHA annual meeting is in Washington D.C. in January, and the film will be screened for more than 5,000 history professors and high-school teachers.
Hooray! Maybe we'll go!
-
On the other hand, I do not think I can stretch my conversations with Der Brucer about immigration law into a legit reason to deduct the trip. It was interesting to find we agree....hey Der B - call your senators and tell them to vote for the DREAM act.
Sorry, don't mean to get political here, it's just that we agreed and I have to savor that while it lasts :)
-
BK, I too find Funny Face a bit of an ordeal to watch.

I better grab some lunch today hasn't been too financially productive, but we took a bunch of photos for the website. I shudder to think what he's going to charge me for this, lol. I'm doing more photos and still working on the content. Hopefully we'll get that done.

Late this afternoon I will be going to Mercy Hospital's Women's Night Out. http://www.mercysiouxcity.com/womansnightout/
It's a lot of fun. They have tickets for 3000 (1500 tonight and 1500 tomorrow) and sell out in about a day or so. Wine, makeovers, massages, products for your home or you - then dinner and a commedienne. What fun. Can't wait

...is it me, or is DR Elmore3003 (the magnificent!!!) just a little bit on the snarky side this morning?....
I revised my original post a bit, but yes, I am being snarky: the cast members without representation had six weeks to get agents and casting folk into that theatre to see their work. The fact that two of them who got good mention are no longer in Manhattan and can't even follow up the good press with personal calls and/or visits means it's now a lost advantage.

I am sitting at the table of a woman who is running for mayor. We recently changed our form of government and now the mayor is directly elected. So next Tuesday is the primary. I don't know Maria, so it will be interesting to get to know her and decide if I want to vote for her.

If you search the forum's posts from your brief stint away from us, you'll find that I am a very staunch supporter of FUNNY FACE as well. . .

DR Laura-BEAUTIFUL! That is something we don't see in Oregon.

Mussel toff! ;D

I liked CAVEMEN and THE CAR POOLERS last night....some funny stuff.

Bruce, Cason & all-CONGRATS on the nice BRAIN review.

This is sooo cute, and sweet. I hope the dress is perfect. Please let us know.
-
I'm going to modify this post because it is a bit snarky.
I can relate to the "God knows I've tried" part on many issues. But, in the case of an agent, isn't it a bit of Catch-22? You use an agent because it's always easier for someone else to promote you and your work than to do it yourself. The trick is to promote yourself enough to get the agent who then promotes you. Yes?

Wherever ye be, it be spring!
Oh, Ron - how you talk!!

I hope luch doesn't mind.
Wonder if DR ELMORE is under water?
Or if DR PENNYO is enjoying her lamb....or if DR MBARNUM has checked into the Hotel California?
Mmmmm... gmrph... gulp. Yes, sir!!!

CONGRATS TO EDI on her S&V AWARD!!

CONGRATULATIONS to DR Edisaurus on the well-deserved honor for her film! :)

Jose, you sly ENABLER, you! All it took was a couple bites to get me hooked, and now I'm looking for substitutes. While doing some grocery shopping I of course succumbed. Not Levain, not expecting Levain--just something remotely resembling the Levain experience.

Elmore! Yikes, plumbing disasters... I had to have my pump repaired in June, and the whole danged house REPLUMBED in August. Then, a handyman in to do the repairs caused by the plumbing disaster AND the plumbing repairs... for example: DRYWALL REPLACEMENT... Next year, the entire house has to be re-wired. Ah the joys of home ownership - but nothing's worse that the plumbing disasters... mold, mildew, lots o' stuff to repair, once the plumbing is repaired. I feel your pain, sweetie.

And, what's a monkey cake??? Does it go well with cold lamb?

.
I've tried, George, God knows I've tried!
I know exactly how you feel, ;D and when it is your own children it is even more difficult. I have also learned, in spite of my being right most of the time, things still work out. So....wonderful career vibes to Cason & BJ who should have listened to you. :)
-
I can relate to the "God knows I've tried" part on many issues. But, in the case of an agent, isn't it a bit of Catch-22? You use an agent because it's always easier for someone else to promote you and your work than to do it yourself. The trick is to promote yourself enough to get the agent who then promotes you. Yes?
Agents will not represent you unless they've seen your work. I suggested that Cason and BJ send info to agents in the City and even recommended they contact a personal friend. Even if half the agents you invite don't come to the show, you've done whatever you can to have them see your work. If they were still in Manhattan, they could work the angle of I-got-a-good-review-in-the-Times-can-I-come-talk-to-you-about-personal-representation?
Unfortunately, neither one is here to work the room and the momentum of the good press is lost. However, the groundwork should have been done before the show opened. If acting is your business, you have to treat it like a business. Despite stupid reality shows, no one's an overnight discovery. And those that say they were are not being honest.

Penny I haven't had monkey cake in years. My description (couldn't find a good one on-line) is it is more like a sweet bread. When I had it it tore apart in pieces. It seems to have made a comeback recently & is popping up in bakeries again.

Congrats to dear reader Edisaurus on a well-deserved honor!

I shall shortly be on my way to rehearse with new cast members for a little tour of The Party Animals. I finish at three (or before) after which I'll come home and figure out the fundraiser decision. The cancellation or postponement letter is written, but I'm really hoping we can tough it out and do the damn show.

Congratulations to DR Edisaurus!

It's very much the consistency of carrot cake, but tasting predominantly of banana. I may have the coconut thing wrong. :)

According to the Algonquin's own website (http://www.algonquinhotel.com/cab_history.html), their Oak Room Cabaret first opened in November of 1939, fell in stature during WW2, and came back to prominence in the 1980's. That gives something like forty years when it wasn't well known - more than a generation.
And those were the days my friend, a baby boomer, grew up in. From roughly 1945-1985, mention Oak Room to any New Yorker, he'd think of the one in the Plaza, the setting for a famous scene in North By Northwest. I've performed several times in that cabaret room at the Algonquin and never, until today, knew its name.

DR Jane, that's Monkey Bread. Monkey Cake is more like carrot cake. It has pineapple in it, I heard that much from the guy at Amy's Bread

I am MUNCHING (a Singdaw reference) on a FAUX LEVAIN chocolate chip cookie. FAUX, I tell you, FAUX.
And after all that glorious food last week did you notice that now JOSE is talking about going to the gym?

I think that before the next HHW NY reunion someone needs to call both Levain and Amy's Breads and give them a heads-up.
"Jose's friends are coming? Hey, Mack, double our production!"

I want a job like Singdaw's where I can get paid to play on HHW all day.

Wow DR Edisaurus, congrats!!
I do hope you noticed my raves about S and V a couple of weeks back!

Here's the description of Monkey Cake from Amy's Bread website
Monkey Cake A monkey's delight, with fresh bananas, pineapple, and toasted pecans; dense, moist, and chunky; wrapped in cream cheese icing.

Of course almost everyone I know who is CREATIVE uses the MAC....
Except for "creative" engineers.
The PC and MAC had very different origins. At the micro-circuit level the DOS-PC was engineered for mathematical efficiency; the Apple/MAC line was engineered for graphics manipulation.
Early on graphic designers, publishers, etc. took to the MAC; accountants, engineers, etc. took to the PC. Because the software applications were so dissimilar, developers tended to migrate to one platform or the other. It was years before Microsoft developed "core" software modules that were then wrapped with machine-specific interfaces - and then Office for Windows and Office for MAC had the same look and feel, and files were easily interchanged.
Had it not been for Steve Jobs insistence on keeping MAC architecture proprietary, Apple would have overwhelmed the PC years ago. When I was at Hughes I headed a successful one-man campaign to keep the company from adopting the MAC as a company standard ; my winning argument was that because PC clones were so affordable, the work-force was buying those machines for home use and the computer learning experience could be done on the employees own time. The cheaper, more easily upgradeable DOS machines soon took over market numbers, and their greater market share caused software developers to move toward the PC (PC updates usually led MAC updates, PC applications were usually cheaper than the same for MAC, hardware upgrades were cheaper for PCs, and more applications became available on PCs.
End of lecture.

Good, no coconut. And toasted pecans are much better than plain pecans. I like pineapple. I'm very willing to give it a try ;). Those oatmeal raisin cookies at Levain's are really tempting.

In addition to Les Miz, I saw delightful quotes from Evita and Ragtime. The joy is that they are not just "nods" but creatively integrated into the show.

What Jose is leaving out is the proximity of the gym to Levain's...whether he must pass Levain's to get to the gym...and again upon his return.

I just read George Grizzard passed away. He was 79. The article talked about his career but didn't include a photo-odd.

How awful about George Grizzard. I always thought he was a marvelous actor.

My five favorite Criterions are:
Rebecca
The Red Shoes
Charade
Maurice
Howard's End
I didn't even remember that HOWARD'S END or MAURICE was a Criterion release. They're certainly fabulous.

I began my afternoon watching a special feature on the first disc of CSI: NY. It had to do with the making of episode #4 (which I had watched this morning). Interesting way they got the idea for this episode which revolved around Greek mythology.
-
Sad to say, I did not get the Mickey-Judy box today.
I did get the next box set from Paramount I'll be starting on after I finish CSI: NY.
MEDIUM - Season 3.
-
Next I watched a couple more CSI: NY episodes (these on disc two). The second episode I watched had an audio commentary which I listened to. It was the episode that involved the Suicide Girls, and one of them was one of the commentators.
-
Next, I watched last night's BOSTON LEGAL. I enjoyed the episode much more than last week.
I still am not warming to the two new female attorneys in the firm. At least guest star Mark Valley is getting some courtroom time which is more than he got during his previous two seasons on the show.
-
Next, I skimmed through today's AS THE WORLD TURNS. The gay storyline was again present. It doesn't appear to be a part of tomorrow's show, however.
-
I ended the afternoon rewatching SUnday night's BROTHERS & SISTERS. Even though I knew exactly everything that was going to happen, it still brought me to tears. For some reason, that show affects me more than any other on TV. (GREY'S ANATOMY is the closest competitor.)

Why is my heart marooned without you
The sun goes down
My dreams begin their refrain
I call to whatever holds you
My beloved
I wait and I wait
Why is my heart marooned without you
A tiny light upon the sea
My heart is so afraid
You have broken away
Tell me, darling, I pray
You will come to me soon

Ok, this is a confession I never ever thought I would make.....
That would be a good first line for a book, wouldn't it.
Anyway, I have been having trouble getting motivated to work, so I put on my LEGALLY BLONDE CD and....it worked! LOL, I've been cranking out letters, making phone calls and getting very organized.
This is too funny, but hey, if it works....

Okay, DR JRand ~ What's up in the universe? Uranus must have collided with something (I mean the planet ;) ;) you naughty HHWers...) cause Ben and Ant are able to ration Levain cookies over several days, SillyString passes on a piece of Monkey Cake (from the Enabler, no less), Mr. Me is acting all warm and fuzzy while DR ELmo is acting tersely snarky (or is that snarkily terse?) and Cilla needs Legally Blonde for motivation? What are your planetary euphemisms showing on the charts? Something is askew (Age of Aquarius music in the background...)
-
DR Jane, that's Monkey Bread. Monkey Cake is more like carrot cake. It has pineapple in it, I heard that much from the guy at Amy's Bread
It looks a lot like carrot cake at first glance -- but when you examine it closely, it looks more like banana nut bread -- and tastes a lot like banana nut bread to me but with the addition of the pineapple. The icing is a lot like the cream cheese icing on carrot cake, but it seemed to me to have a hint of something like lemon or pineapple in it.
Whatever it is, it's delicious! SO, I think the pod people have taken over SillyString too, like they did Ben and Ant, since he was able to say no to the Enabler. Some wills have definitely been bent is all I'm saying ...

DR ELmo ~ All your advice is on the money (even if you're having pipe problems that are causing you to be terse -- we love you anyway) -- but Case told me while I was in NYC that he did send the dates and times of the Brain shows to your contact several weeks before opening, and then I know that he followed up with a packet to the guy that contained his headshot, resume, reel and a postcard highlighting the show's dates/times about a week before opening night. Then he mailed a packet the day we walked DR Jeanne back to Penn Station to some female agent that had been at the show and requested his info. The Michael C. guy who cast the show came to see it while I was there and talked with Case and BJ after the show he attended, giving them his card and requesting info and Case is sending him a packet. Then he sent a packet to a NYC casting agent who is the niece of a guy with HBO who is a close friend of my DH's sister in LA about a week before opening. Then DR Jose took us by this agency on Monday during his walking tour where he had to pick up some music and asked for an agent who he knew, but who was out. But Jose had taken chocolates for the folks in the office and the gals we talked with loved the Enabler's gifts and he introduced Cason to two of them and they said they knew about the show and that one of them would attend. But you're right, they should be calling and knocking on doors constantly. You can lead a horse to water, but ....
-
Miss Karen, it is interesting to read about Cason's activities in NY. :)

Congrats to Dear Edi and Peter!!!
Peter wrote and said that this is essentially the "best historical film" award from the country's biggest historical organization. I wasn't familiar with it, but a friend who is a college history professor was trying to get us to present the film at the conference last year, which was here in Atlanta. So I'm glad that they will be able to see it after all!
-
Wow DR Edisaurus, congrats!!
I do hope you noticed my raves about S and V a couple of weeks back!
Yes, and thank you to all you DR's for your congratulations. And Peter is glad that you find Sacco attractive as well! (Vanzetti is more my type...) ;)

In addition to Les Miz, I saw delightful quotes from Evita and Ragtime. The joy is that they are not just "nods" but creatively integrated into the show.
I loved Joe Jackson waving the little American flag with both arms as if it were a huge, heavy flag, as I presume it was in Les Miz (never saw the show). It was a very funny visual. Was that in the LA show?

And Bye Bye Birdie: Mother? Mom? Mommy!!!
And even though I've never seen ACL (I know, I missed my chance last week!) I can imagine the dance moves, and also what I imagine to be Fosse moves. I think you can tell that something is being parodied and even if I don't know what, it makes me laugh anyway!

Miss Karen, it is interesting to read about Cason's activities in NY. :)
Yes, it is.
What Cason needs is his own "people"...a "posse", of sorts, to ensure he's seen by movers and shakers.
I do get it that he's young and wants fun in his life, too.

Good Evening!
Back from Mary Poppins rehearsal... The A/C unit in the room was broken... Thankfully, it was "cooler" today, but still... We got the final bit of reviewing done, and then the girls are back on stage tomorrow the cast, and they start shadowing tonight during the show.

I keep meaning to mention that DR Jason has been sidelined with a very bad cold/head/chest something the past couple of days. OK you Southin' guys and gals:
Family Crisis; I insisted on buying catfish (@4.99/lb) as opposed to Flounder/Rock Fish/Shark/Salmon at twice that price. Now I would think a soak in egg, and dredge thru flower and a pop in the fry pan would work (maybe some cornmeal mixed in with the flour - and french fries. Mr "Never Do Anything" easy is now talking some batter dipping and deep-fat frying - and hush puppies (which required a return trip to the store for Buttermilk) are on the impending menu.) Of course I added to the menu cost by insisting on Avacado for my green salad).

VIBES TO JASON FOR A SPEEDY RECOVERY
-
OK you Southin' guys and gals:
Family Crisis; I insisted on buying catfish (@4.99/lb) as opposed to Flounder/Rock Fish/Shark/Salmon at twice that price. Now I would think a soak in egg, and dredge thru flower and a pop in the fry pan would work (maybe some cornmeal mixed in with the flour - and french fries. Mr "Never Do Anything" easy is now talking some batter dipping and deep-fat frying - and hush puppies (which required a return trip to the store for Buttermilk) are on the impending menu.) Of course I added to the menu cost by insisting on Avacado for my green salad).
der Brucer
WHAT?!?!?
I think I know what you meant through all the missed letters, finger slips and unclosed parentheses, but... ;)
The "secret" I learned with catfish was to soak it in milk for a bit. Or even just pass it through milk before dredging it in cornmeal and flour. However, since you're making hushpuppies, then go the "classic" route, and use the dry hush puppy mix for your coating - since hush puppies were traditionally made from the extra breading.
-
"Southin'" - ???
;)
-
And don't you dare blame those Levain cookies or me again, DR DerBrucer!
;D
-
Btw, it's "avocado".
If you can't spell it, you can't eat it, I'se always says.
-
GET WELL FAST VIBES FOR DR JASON!
-
DR edisaurus - Congratulations to you and DR Greg!
*And I know LOTS of great places to eat in DC too! :D
-
DR Vixmom-I'm enjoying the photos, keep them coming.
-
SO Mr. Piano, when will you actually be making your Poppins appearance?
The Vixter and I are puttingit on our list of "Must Sees" now that you are involved
-
DR Vixmom-I'm enjoying the photos, keep them coming.
I'm fresh out. I can't believe I never took a picture in front of any of the theatres!
-
So... Let's see... Matchbox for their Mini-Burgers and Pizza... Teaism for their Salty Oat and Chocolate Chip Granola Cookies... Jaleo for the skewers of Chorizo on top of some amazing mashed potatoes... Zaytinya for anything with lamb... The Carlyle for their Flourless Chocolate Waffle and their high-end Banana Pudding with Caramelized(!) Vanilla Wafers... Etc., etc., etc...
-
Wednesday evening greetings! We're relaxing at our apartment between our NYMF shows. Earlier today, DH HaHaHaHa Richard and I visited DR Elmore at his office and then took the Upper West Side portion of the Gray Line tour. After misreading my map, we got to the Julia Miles Theatre just in time to pick up our tickets and settle into our seats for the 4:30 performance of Such Good Friends. A tall guy in a suit sat right in front of me and kept wiggling all through the first act, so we moved and I enjoyed the second act much more (even though it's much more serious). The cast is very strong and DR Noel should be pleased.
Pretty soon we'll be off to the 9pm performance of The Last Starfighter.
-
DR edisaurus - Congratulations to you and DR Greg!
*And I know LOTS of great places to eat in DC too! :D
Hmmm do I hear "HHW road trip"....
is it open to the public Edi or no?
-
Congratulations to DR Edi for the AHA honor for S&V!
-
oh here's another... WFO and Ginny
-
SO Mr. Piano, when will you actually be making your Poppins appearance?

There's been no real date set. Yes. And, frankly, I'd still like to take my time making way to the podium as it were. I also think it would be one of those deals where I'd probably conduct a put-in rehearsal during the day, and then be on-call at night for any emergencies that may arise. We'll see. I still need to play a few shows in the pit, and that won't happen for another two weeks or so.
Alas, although I am honored - and humbled - that Brad asked me to come on board, the show is still not settling in all that well to my hands and head. It just may not be "my show", so... Once the two new girls have gotten their first shows out the way over the next two weeks, then we can start talking about my first shows as a pit pianist and a conductor.
-
Well I must go collect the Vixter from Confirmation class
laters!!

DR Jose, VIBES, VIBES, VIBES you soon feel comfortable with Poppins!
-
This afternoon, I wanted to go to The Wooden Indian and see if I could get some Fortnam & Mason teas.
Unfortunately, they do not carry them. They did have:
Cranberry-Mustard
Rhubarb-Raspberry Jam
Balsamic with Bleu Cheese with Walnuts Dressing
Vidalisa Onion & Poppyseed Salad Dressing
Cran-Orange Preserves
Cavendar's All Purpose Greek Seasoning
So there went the best part of $30.
They had a pepper jelly - but it didn't look like the best.
They had a recipe for a great spread using cream cheese and Hot Pepper Raspberyy Preserves - of which they had none in stock!
So, on the way home we dropped into Pepper's to get some Pepper Jelly:
I got:
Hot Pepper Raspberry Preserves
Bone Suckin' Mustard
Raspberry Honey Mustard Pretzel Dip
To which Woody added:
Maker's Mark Gourmet Sauce
Cholula Seasoning
Colon Cleanser Hot Sauce
Hot Pepper Berry Patch Preserves
Siracha HOT Chili Suuce
Tabasco Sweet & Spicy sauce
And there went anothe $80!
OY!
der Brucer
Still no tea!

Pan fryin's good enough fer me....but the thought o' them hushpuppies has got me droolin' like a hound dawg on a hot summer afternoon.
I say let S. Woody do it his way...and enjoy the hushpuppies.

head and hands vibes!!!!
Thanks, DR vixmom and Jane. -Although, I think it's just more a matter of "fit" rather than "vibes". I'm far enough in my career to know when I should consider turning down a project. And, trust me, after my first few days of rehearsals, I was almost ready to say, "If you'd like me to leave..." I just did not want to leave the rehearsal room/theatre feeling bad about myself, my skills, and knowing that I might have held up rehearsals in the process... Again. I may not have let on about it at the time, but I really did feel like crap after my first couple of days.
There are some parts of this show that I readily and easily understood, but there are still parts that for whatever reason just aren't living in me yet. There's a difference between working hard on a project, and having a project that's hard to work on. I have a feeling things will work out, but just not as fast and as easily, as intuitively and instinctively, as other shows and projects I've worked on in the past.
-
Again! (Brain reference) -- just in case you missed it when bk posted it, not just because I want you to read the part about Cason, again! ;) .... dang, why couldn't this blogger have been a casting agent and handed Boo-Key a card and told him "Call me. I have a role for you!"
If that is all it takes, I'll hand him a card and tell him. "I have a roll for you!"
-
DR Ben, I laud your willpower. Those cookies would be gone in a flash in our house! :)
Singdaw, I also applaud his willpower!
-
Good evening,
Catching up on today's posts
-
Congrats to RLP on his new plateau!
-
Early this morning I went for a walk, and this is what I saw:
Stunning photograph Laura...
You are very talented!
-
We're good eggs, we are! :)
.... and not cracked at all.... :)
( SNark! )

-
Just now I was in my backyard, and I saw this butterfly laying eggs on the passion vine:
Beautiful Laura...
Have you ever considered publishing your photos?
-
No, but I did use them for the children's story at church on Sunday. I wrote a story called "Who Lives at the Pond?" to go along with the water theme that the guest speaker used. Although DR Sandra tells me it was not a story, as it had no story arc.
-
Back from rehearsal, meetings, and many telephonic calls and e-mails.
-
Rehearsal went well - we put in three new people and they'll be just fine. We have one more full-out rehearsal next Monday, then the troupe is off to five different European countries to perform at army bases and naval bases.
-
You must be aliens -- pod people!
I am amazed also... I would have absolutely no will power to let them last that long.
-
, as it had no story arc.
Hmmm, Noah's Ark?
-
The head of the Theatre Academy had is meeting with the people who've been dragging their feet - a long meeting, in which he explained our problems. The root of all this is that this show should not have been funded in this way - unfortunately it's too late to do anything about it. He was assured strongly by several people that the check had been approved and would be here by Monday. He felt confident enough to tell me to not cancel, and that's the decision I've made. We now have an unbelievably amazing amount of work to do, but I actually miscounted the weeks and we really have four-and-a-half, not the three-and-a-half I thought we had.
-
DR Jose- Whatever is making this difficult needs vibes to overcome it so I think the vibes still fit. Do you enjoy the music?
-
Re: Levain. I try to limit my sugar intake, but I gotta tell ya, these babies are not only fabulous, they are TOTALLY addictive. My two didn't last long at all.
I hearby call the first meeting of Levain withdrawal support group!
-
Why not do THE BRAIN FROM PLANET X as the Fundraiser....with the all-star cast you have assembled?
Hey that is an idea, and Cason and Alet can join in!
-
Bruce, an extra week & a guarantee of money-not bad. :) Best of luck!
-
Plumbing vibes to Elmore!
-
Vibes to Jose!
-
Then, on top of everything that's been going on, we get a phone call from an alum and supporter who received one of the 1500 flyers that just went out. These were all folded and stuffed into envelopes by one of our board member's five high school classes. Well, in the margin of this particular flyer, either in pen or Xerox, was written "f*ck ur life" by some charming little punk. Of course, panic set in and the board member was called but she wasn't home (is anyone EVER home when you need them?). But we talked to two other people who got their flyer, and theirs were clean, so in the best case scenario, we're praying this was a one-off thing - in the worst case scenario we're praying it was only one batch of flyers - clearly it wasn't all of them.
-
BK, I would guess that the majority of the audience for THE BRAIN FROM PLANET X felt the way that last reviewer felt....and it is nice to see DR Cason being mentioned so many times in pretty much every review! You go, guy!
You echoed my thoughts also.
A friend of mine who saw the show was very impressed and really liked Cason in the role as Zubrick. She was there the first night.
-
Ahhh....a SWEET revenge, then....
;D
I used the Brain to drown out my neighbors Nirvana CD
-
Oh, sure! Now that we're gone, there IS Monkey Cake!
;D
Go Figure!! :)
I would love to try some. I had never heard of it until Jose mentioned it oneday
-
Well I'll be a monkey's uncle!

Congratulations!!!
-
No, I am seeing the remaining two NYMF shows this coming weekend.
I was down in the basement, working up a sweat trying to clean up a bit. It's not the same as chimney-sweep sweat.

***FEEL BETTER VIBES***
to DR Jason
-
Oh, and thanks for sharing the great photos, DR Vixmom!
-
Nice picture Cilla!
-
Yes, "Joe vs. the Volcano" is a fun movie...even with its flaws.
I agree, I have not seen it in years
-
I have tried getting on here a few times since the weekend but kept being interrupted before I could post
So with little fanfare (and befoer the news is entirely stale)
did I hear a "too late" from Mr Snarkmeister?
;D
Ginny, Richard and Vixter , before Richard's New York theatrical premiere
Lovely picture of Ginny, Richard and Vixter.
-
Another shot of the Enabler at work
Great pictures Vixmom!
-
Excited to read more FRIENDS and STARFIGHTER posts as the day progresses.
DR EDISAURUS - thanks for the picture of the Plaza Cake....that is quite a baking accomplishment! I wonder if the Oak Bar is in there someplace?
Jrand - When I was living in New Jersey, my roommate dated the daughter of a multi-millionaire, who was a millionaire in her own right. I guess I won't name names. Anyway, one night they went out to a Broadway show and after the show they went for drinks at the Oak Bar. She had previously mentioned that she had never been there before.
As they were enjoying their cocktails, he asked her what she thought of the place. It is really lovely," she said, "I wonder what kind of wood they used?"
-
Recovery vibes for Jason!

You seriously need your own website, and it should be funded by the places you recommend. Maybe you could call it "Jose Sent Me". People using this catch phrase would also get a 10% discount on their meal.
Your recommendations make me want to make the tirp to D.C., even in January!!

Hmmm do I hear "HHW road trip"....
is it open to the public Edi or no?
We could always crash it! :D
-
oh here's another... WFO and Ginny
Ginny looks so pretty! Love the outfit!
-
OH!...
I keep meaning to mention that DR Jason has been sidelined with a very bad cold/head/chest something the past couple of days. Thankfully, today is his day off, so I hope he's been able to get some good rest. God knows, his schedule is only going to get crazier once his rehearsals start for his tour.
~~~GET WELL VIBES FOR DR JASON!!~~~
Get well vibes for DR Jason and I'm sorry I didn't get to meet him. Maybe his tour will stop in Atlanta?
Are there any DUKES OF HAZZARD fans on HHW?
-
Well, it's time for me to leave work and go to our first REAL music rehearsal for the show! The composer/music director is supposed to have music for all of us (and probably accompaniment CDs for those who don't read music...which is most of the cast ::)). Hopefully, it won't be a complete trainwreck. ;) I know it'll take some time, but I don't doubt that it'll all be a ton o' fun!!
-
Are there any DUKES OF HAZZARD fans on HHW?
Not really, just a fan of the Dukes themselves.
My college buddy, Chris Hensel spent a season or two on DUKES, during the sans Wopat/Scheider times. . .
Where did they find these people who are telling their stories?
Now I am hungry!
-
Last night (well, actually the last two nights) I have been swamped trying to complete a poster for an organization that hired me to design it. As always happens, the deadlines kept shrinking and changing as the days went by. That is why I have been so far behind on reading posts this week.
Well, the poster is finished, it has been approved, and I am worn out. So, I am now heading off to bed - because I can.
'night.
-
Good night all! I have finally caught up
hugs to all!!!!
And, DR MBarnum, unlike you, when I say my pipes need a plumber, it's not a euphemism!
YES!
This sounds like a terribly wonderful and evil place for the waist line....
I'M GOING TO WORKOUT TOMORROW MORNING! Just thinking about Levain is sinful.
-
I am sitting here wishing I could try some...
-
Jeanne.... Blame Jose :)
I do give him points for picking out neat and wonderful places that make wonderful treats!
-
I'M GOING TO WORKOUT TOMORROW MORNING! Just thinking about Levain is sinful.
Well, hopefully, I will workout tomorrow morning. Or at least step foot in the gym... The one that opened earlier this week... And that I joined a couple of weeks ago to take advantage of the special rates... Just sayin'. ;)
-
Jeanne.... Blame Jose :)
Well, at times, it's almost like the places are picking me. ;)
-
Well, hopefully, I will workout tomorrow morning. Or at least step foot in the gym... The one that opened earlier this week... And that I joined a couple of weeks ago to take advantage of the special rates... Just sayin'. ;)
We can workout together--just a couple hundred miles apart. And stop at Levain afterwards--NO!
-
Night, all.
-
What Jose is leaving out is the proximity of the gym to Levain's...whether he must pass Levain's to get to the gym...and again upon his return.
Well... My gym is at 145th Street. Levain is at 74th. Not exactly, not exactly convenient. But not entirely out of the question either. ;)
-
Jose, it is your lovely charm good lad!
-
Sorry to read about DR Jason's ailing health. I hope he feels better very soon.
-
I'm very happy that I saw SUCH GOOD FRIENDS tonight. I sat with DR Ben and Anthony and sat directly in front of Mr & Mrs Larry Goldberg. I thought Noel's show had a lot of wonderful moments, especially the McCarthy hearings in Act Two, and a wonderful cast. Liz Larsen seems to never leave the show, although I know she did at least once, and she's got a wonderful crew surrounding her. There are some wonderful musical numbers and some very funny throw-away numbers like the alarm clock commercial. It was also nice to see our bass player from "The Brain" playing the show.
My plan was to take the 104 bus to Lincoln Center and transfer to the No. 11 but the bus was going so slowly so I decided to take the subway at Broadway and 66th. As I got to the subway I thought, that's Tuc Watkins, and it was! So I said to him, the last time I saw you was in the post office on 83rd; I thought you were in LA now. He said that he was but he was back doing a few ONE LIFE TO LIVE episodes. He looked great, and he's such a sweetie. I think his apartment's around the corner from mine.
-
Cool photo Cilla. It is somewhat difficult to read. Does that matter? I'm very much looking forward to seeing your website.
There were a number of photos and my web guy is better with photoshop and all that sort of thing than I am. He's going to try to fine on that's legible when reduced. I have to write more content and do the links before it will be up.
-
I began my evening by watching another CSI: NY episode. Mac's son finally makes an appearance.
-
Hmm.. Well, bk may not be able to find mac'n'cheese in L.A. (although, I think if he looked a bit closer he might find it), but according to this article in today's NY Times, grilled cheese sandwiches seem to be the "now" thing out there.
No Glamour, but Sandwich Is a Star (http://www.nytimes.com/2007/10/03/dining/03chee.html?_r=1&ref=dining&oref=slogin)
-
Then I watched last night's SVU. A pretty good show that made me smile when the subject of avatars came up.
-
*And I'm guessing any restaurant that has a grilled cheese sandwich on their menu, probably has some form of mac'n'cheese too.
-
PUSHING DAISIES was certainly offbeat and very droll. Not sure this concept can be stretched to be a multi-season episodic show, but I was intrigued enough to certainly tune in again next week. (The announcer who gave everyone's ages down to the second got on my nerves after awhile.)
-
Oohhh... I guess I misread the NYMF schedule... The last performance of Such Good Friends is this Saturday at 1:00... And I'll be in rehearsal. So tonight would have been my last chance to see it. And see my friends in it. :(
-
PRIVATE PRACTICE once again had me divided in my feelings.
The central story with the children was involving. The other stuff was so juvenile (strippers and bicycles). Is it going to get any better. I'm beginning to wonder.
-
I did enjoy DIRTY SEXY MONEY again, but tonight's episode wasn't really much of a build on last week's show. The politician dating a transsexual and the minister with the illegitimate son are the only family stories that have hooked me. I really don't care about any of the other siblings.
-
Well, damn, DR Jose! You could have come with me.
After the show I went down to Vintage on 9th & 51st for the joint birthday party of the lovely Cassie Abate and her roommate Heather. The only "Brain" personnel to show up were stage manager Rachel Maier and Erin Webley, both of whom I love, so I hung out with them.
And now to bed.
There's been no real date set. Yes. And, frankly, I'd still like to take my time making way to the podium as it were. I also think it would be one of those deals where I'd probably conduct a put-in rehearsal during the day, and then be on-call at night for any emergencies that may arise. We'll see. I still need to play a few shows in the pit, and that won't happen for another two weeks or so.
Alas, although I am honored - and humbled - that Brad asked me to come on board, the show is still not settling in all that well to my hands and head. It just may not be "my show", so... Once the two new girls have gotten their first shows out the way over the next two weeks, then we can start talking about my first shows as a pit pianist and a conductor.
Jose, who are the two new girls? Since we saw them doing their dance by the stage door, it would be fun to know their names
Watched a motion picture on DVD but with continuous telephonic interruptions. Am now listening to music and trying to still my obnoxious cough.
-
LOL DR TCB....wood can be difficult to identify....
Such lovely photos from DR VIXMOM and DR LAURA....everyone looks so glamorous and happy in the NYC pics!
-
Sounds like the Fund Raiser is moving ahead with all possible dispatch.
As for the FU flyer.....I am sure they thought it was hilarious while they were doing it.....and it could have been written to show the person working in the chair next to someone, and then put in an envelope without thinking.
BUT I think it should be followed up on....and if no one confesses, all of them should receive NO CREDIT for the extra work.....
-
But I am mean and have no patience with the young folk.
-
DR TCB were you able to convert your poster to a pdf?
-
Very disappointed in the winner of TOP CHEF.
-
We are back from our NYMF double feature, having thoroughly enjoyed The Last Starfighter. While we were waiting outside beforehand, a total stranger came up to Richard and said, "Didn't I see you in The Brain from Planet X the other night?" We laughed about that and then, when we were in our seats, with Richard on the aisle, before the show started, DR FJL came up and started telling him about how in the second act an alien would come up the aisle and escort him onstage, etc. Just kidding!
Also visiting our seats beforehand was DR Julie, whom I'd never met in person before. She and DR FJL and Skip all seemed totally relaxed.
-
I'm heading downstairs now for bed.
Good night!
-
Yes, the dress did fit, and so will be worn on another occasion, DRJANE. And it was deemed very nice.
-
So nice to hear continued reports on TLS and SGF.
-
Hmm... Well, since they are minors, and since they're not officially in the Playbills yet... For now, I'll just say that their names, their first names are Alexandra and Lilah.
-
Very disappointed in the winner of TOP CHEF.
Well, if anything, it was a good top three.
-
Health vibes to busy DRJASON.
-
Argggghh - don't know if it's sleeping with the AC blowing right across our bed or riding the better part of the last two days atop double-decker sightseeing busses, but I've developed a sore throat. And haven't been anywhere near DR Jason!
-
Well, if anything, it was a good top three.
True.... :D
-
Ah, understood. When it's official, can you tell me then?
-
DR MISS KAREN - yes a Mercury retrograde is coming up, so batten down the hatches.
The Venus trine with Pluto certainly means that LOVE and ROMANCE can take a leap forward - NOW!!
And this is the perfect time to realize how far we have come in understanding ourselves.
-
He said that he was but he was back doing a few ONE LIFE TO LIVE episodes. He looked great, and he's such a sweetie. I think his apartment's around the corner from mine.
I really like Tuc's character. He is a fine actor... He has a great rapport in his scenes with Robin Strasser. I am glad ot hear he is returning
-
Well there have been about 50 visitors to the Allison Hayes Internet Biography page....but only DRMBARNUM has signed the guestbook.
Obviously everyone else is just so overcome.
To quote a very famous dessert maven.... "...WHEW !! "....
I have tried for several hours to make a small dent in catching up on posts, but I just can't make it through all of them. If I travel without a computer for 5 or 6 days, I will just have to accept that I may have to just "jump back in cold" as far as posts.
New York and the "Brain" and seeing friends was as wonderful as it always is. A very belated "big thank you" to dear Ms.Karen for the wonderful dessert treats at the Brooklyn Diner.
And BK, thanks for your company and laughter, and for restoring my hickey for another 3 months ! ;)
Page 17 Lil Abner in Fruit of the Looms Dance. ;D
I had a great time at Women's Night Out. They had all sorts of freebies from food to lotion to health screenings...I got a hot wax treatment on my hands, a make over, bought a necklace, and have lots of goodies. The pork medalions were good. Many at our table were vegetarians and not too thrilled with their dinners, but I was fine.
Judy Carter was hilarious. The woman sitting next to me literally howled through the whole show. The candidate for mayor asked for my business cards and said she has several people to refer to me. I'm not sure I support her for the job, although an Hispanic woman mayor would really shake this town up.
So JRand what's up in the sky? Or did I miss your response to Miss Karen's question
Please deposit $35 in my PayPal account. ;D
Also, very large and genuine thanks are sent to dear DR Laura for being such a mensch and helping me with airport treks !!
And since I had workmen here early this morning, tearing the shit out of my entry and kitchen floors....... and since they are coming back again tomorrow morning to finish up,......
I am going to let Sugar have a pee and then we are going to fall into the sleeping chamber.
Goodnight studlies and lovelies and vixens and sirens! ;D
Are there any DUKES OF HAZZARD fans on HHW?
Not a Dukes fan, but I do have all of Tom Wopat's CDs and I'd like to make hay with John Schneider.
-
Not really, just a fan of the Dukes themselves.
My college buddy, Chris Hensel spent a season or two on DUKES, during the sans Wopat/Scheider times. . .
Oh! Did he get to know Byron Cherry and Christopher Mayer, the replacement dukes!! If so I want to know all the details!
-
And of course DR td....Uncle Jesse (Denver Pyle) played Frances Farmer's husband (and Bobby Driscoll's father) in "The Party Crashers" featuring another favorite of DR MBARNUM Gene Persson.
-
PRIVATE PRACTICE once again had me divided in my feelings.
The central story with the children was involving. The other stuff was so juvenile (strippers and bicycles). Is it going to get any better. I'm beginning to wonder.
Any moreso than you did after that dreadful introductory episode last season when Addison went to San Diego and interacted with the characters in this new show? I sussed it out as a bad idea back then and had no hopes/interest in it as a full-fledged series, especially since Addison was my least favorite character, interloper that she was, on "Gray's Anatomy".
Of course, it beats the pants off "Joey" as a spin-off show. I'd rather have my eyes prodded with a hot poker than have to watch THAT misfire again.
-
Construction vibes for DR MUSICGUY.
Here's hoping you have a attractive entry way by this time tomorrow.
-
I'd like Gene Persson even more if he would let me interview him.
-
I think I will retire to my sleeping chamber and watch a DVD.
-
I thought "Pushing Daisies" delightful. No issues here with any part of it, narrator included.
I, too, have reservations about its "sustainability." But, it's cast is delightful.
-
I'd like Gene Persson even more if he would let me interview him.
He is too busy producing Broadway shows, I guess, to remember driving the big Imperial in The Party Crashers. 8)
-
Am eagerly anticipating "Life" at 10 p.m. It's my favorite of ALL NEW SHOWS!
-
Since the library is closing, I need to bid you all good night.
Pleasant dreams, take care!
-
I totally didn't know there was a Ray Courts Celebrity show this weekend, and I must say he's got quite an array of folks this time. I'll trek down there on Saturday to visit.
-
I'd go to the Ray Courts show just to see Ronnee Blakely!
And Debbie Reynolds!
Elliot Gould!
Tony Curtis! (well, I've already seen him).
Rex Reason
Brett Halsey
OLIVIA HUSSEY ! ? ! ? ! ? ! (make her sing something from LOST HORIZON).
Oh, bk, you simply must take pictures!
-
One post in forty-five minutes?
-
:-\
So... The "roomie" just came home with her boyfriend. Both of them obviously a bit tipsy. They come in the downstairs door... The door slams shut... "Sssshhh, I told you, we should be quiet, people are trying to sleep."... They look over at me, I look over at them... They start going up the spiral staircase.... "Shhh... Don't walk so loud... people are sleeping.. Ssshh... Shhh..."... And for that last ten minutes or so, a few more doors upstairs have shut quite loudly, things have dropped on the floor, and now they're in the bathroom...
:-\
-
And on that :-\ note...
Goodnight.
-
Well, we had a music rehearsal tonight, but...still no sheet music. ::) We learned some choreography for the song that we learned on Sunday, and the music to part of another song and that's about it. It was fun and even though we STILL don't have any music, I know I need to just go with the flow. It will be what it will be. ;)
-
Ginny - About my being relaxed: it was like a sauna in that theatre tonight, and a nice sauna always relaxes me. :)
